Bro . W . Youldon , P . M ., P . P . S . G . D ., was elected Treasurer , and Bro . J . W . Moorman , P . M ., P . P . G . D . of C , appointed for the sixth time Secretary . When the W . M . had been proclaimed , the usual addresses were effectively rendered by the Installing Master . The W . M . then presented to the I . P . M ., Bro . J . Youldon , a P . M . ' s jewel for his efficient services during the past year .
" Hearty good wishes " to the W . M ., and the closing of the lodge enabled the officers , members , and visitors to test the capabilities of their host , Bro . Mayo . The menu contained all that could be desired , and the brethren were warm in their praises of the excelent accommodation that had been made for their comfort in their new home . The customary loyal ar . d other toasts were briefly given
by the VV . M ., and met with cordial acceptation , the visiting brethren being loud in their praises of the warm reception they had received . The proceedings terminated with the Tyler ' s toast . We have omitted to mention that two propositions were made in open lodge for initiation , one being the W . M . 's eldest son .

Hilditch was passed to the Degree of F . C . Bro . S . Andrew , P . M ., raised Bro . Rose to the Sublime Degree of M . M . in a most impressive manner , which will not soon fade from the memory . There are many W . M . ' s who
would do well to take a lesson from Bro . Andrew , whose earnest manner , clear voice , and distinct pronunciation are worthy of imitation . A word of praise is also due to Bro' G . E . Wand , S . D ., who did hisvvork mostadmirably ; and also to the other officers , who , without exception , did their duties well . The lodge was then closed . The brethren then sat down to supper , and after the cloth
was removed , the usual patnotic and Masonic toasts were given , and the remainder of a most enjoyable evening passed all too quickly , enlivened as it was by songs and recitations given in a creditable manner . This lodge is comparatively young , having been consecrated in March last , but it already ( jives promise of a vigorous and useful future . It is in a flourishing condition , has 32 members on its roll , and has paid off the co-t of its
formation—over £ 200 . The jewels and furniture are exceptionally good—superior to what we see in most lodges . Let us hope that the lodge may in its age " fulfil the promise of its spring . " The members have decided to hold a ball on Thursday , February 16 th next , in the Public Hall , Ardwick , to vvhich ncn-Masons will be admitted en being introduced by a brother .

FIDELITY LODGE ( No . 3 ) . —The usual weekly meeting of the above lodge was held on VVeunesday , the nth inst ., at the Alfred , Roman-road , Barnsbury , when Bro . Messer presided , and was supported by a number of olher brethren . Lodge having been opened in the Second Degree , [ Bro . Ferguson , Preceptor , worked the ist Section of the Second Lecture , after which the ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . Silvester acting
as candidate . That was succeeded by the lodge being opened iii the Third Degree , and closed down . liro . \ V . G . Thompson , 1445 , was unanimously elected a joining member , and Bro . Boy-den W . M . for the ensuing meeting . On Wednesday , the ist prox ., at J . 30 p . m ., Bro . Block , W . M . of the parent lodge , will rehearse the ceremony of installing his successor , and it is hoped that as many brethren as possible , bo : h ol the parent and instruction lodges , will make an effort to be present .

INSTRUCTION .
METROPOLITAN CHAPTER OF IMPROVEMENT ( No . 975 ) - —A most important gathering of advanced Royal Arch Masons took place on Tuesday evening , the 17 th inst ., at the White Hart Tavern , Cannon-street , the occasion being one of special interest , on account of the announcement that Comp . F . Brown , P . Z ., the talented Preceptor of the chapter ( whose services have now extended over several years ) , would give in the form of a Lecture an original explanation ot the Koval Arch jewel , in the
place of a rehearsal of the ceremony of exaltation . The following companions were present : Comps . J . S . Fraser , J . Roberts , VV . C . Claridge , VV . F . Smart , G . Powell , G . Gillard , j . Funstan , R . Harper , J . L . Payne , B . Hayr . es , A . M'Dowell , C . H . Webb , H . Thompson , T . C . Edwards , J . Newton , G . Allen , ana others . The chapter room was elaborately furnished with diagrams , models of geometrical figures , He , prepared for the purpose of illustration and explanation of the Lecture , which occupied nearly
two hours in the delivery , and throughout was listened to with rapt attention . Comp . Brown , on , introducing the subject , made frequent quotations from the Ritual of the Royal Arch Degree , and more particularly those parts of it vvhich refer to the hojal Arch Jewel , pointing out the true principles of geometry , whieh were embodied in that symbol with reference to the Platonic bodies and the theory of the universe . He . also proceeded to show the value between triangles and right angles , upon which the
whole system of Royal Arch Masonry was founded , from the time of Pythagoras , and subsequently to that of Euclid , whose elements had never been controverted , and remained the text-book of geometry up to the present time . At the conclusion of the Lecture , Comp . Brown was cordially applauded , and a propositi n was made that the best thanks' of the chapter should be recorded on the minutes for the very interesting , painstaking , and talented address he had given , hoping that he would continue his researches into the Royal art , and add to the obligations he had already conferred upon them . Several members expressed the
gratification they had received in listening to the Lecture , and stated that it would give them a renewed stimulus to investigate lor themselves the principles upon which Ro , al Arch Masonry was founded . The motion was put and carried unanimously , and Comp . Brown said the approbation lie had received would be an encouragement to him to pursue his enquiries in the future for Ihe purpose of elucidating some of the beauties of the Supreme Degree . The installation of Principals will be worked on tee second Tuesday in each of the months of March , April , and Mav . The chapter was then closed .

" Hearty good wishes " to the W . M ., and the closing of the lodge enabled the officers , members , and visitors to test the capabilities of their host , Bro . Mayo . The menu contained all that could be desired , and the brethren were warm in their praises of the excelent accommodation that had been made for their comfort in their new home . The customary loyal ar . d other toasts were briefly given
by the VV . M ., and met with cordial acceptation , the visiting brethren being loud in their praises of the warm reception they had received . The proceedings terminated with the Tyler ' s toast . We have omitted to mention that two propositions were made in open lodge for initiation , one being the W . M . 's eldest son .

The brethren then sat down to supper , and after the cloth
was removed , the usual patnotic and Masonic toasts were given , and the remainder of a most enjoyable evening passed all too quickly , enlivened as it was by songs and recitations given in a creditable manner . This lodge is comparatively young , having been consecrated in March last , but it already ( jives promise of a vigorous and useful future . It is in a flourishing condition , has 32 members on its roll , and has paid off the co-t of its
formation—over £ 200 . The jewels and furniture are exceptionally good—superior to what we see in most lodges . Let us hope that the lodge may in its age " fulfil the promise of its spring . " The members have decided to hold a ball on Thursday , February 16 th next , in the Public Hall , Ardwick , to vvhich ncn-Masons will be admitted en being introduced by a brother .

METROPOLITAN CHAPTER OF IMPROVEMENT ( No . 975 ) - —A most important gathering of advanced Royal Arch Masons took place on Tuesday evening , the 17 th inst ., at the White Hart Tavern , Cannon-street , the occasion being one of special interest , on account of the announcement that Comp . F . Brown , P . Z ., the talented Preceptor of the chapter ( whose services have now extended over several years ) , would give in the form of a Lecture an original explanation ot the Koval Arch jewel , in the
place of a rehearsal of the ceremony of exaltation . The following companions were present : Comps . J . S . Fraser , J . Roberts , VV . C . Claridge , VV . F . Smart , G . Powell , G . Gillard , j . Funstan , R . Harper , J . L . Payne , B . Hayr . es , A . M'Dowell , C . H . Webb , H . Thompson , T . C . Edwards , J . Newton , G . Allen , ana others . The chapter room was elaborately furnished with diagrams , models of geometrical figures , He , prepared for the purpose of illustration and explanation of the Lecture , which occupied nearly
two hours in the delivery , and throughout was listened to with rapt attention . Comp . Brown , on , introducing the subject , made frequent quotations from the Ritual of the Royal Arch Degree , and more particularly those parts of it vvhich refer to the hojal Arch Jewel , pointing out the true principles of geometry , whieh were embodied in that symbol with reference to the Platonic bodies and the theory of the universe . He . also proceeded to show the value between triangles and right angles , upon which the
whole system of Royal Arch Masonry was founded , from the time of Pythagoras , and subsequently to that of Euclid , whose elements had never been controverted , and remained the text-book of geometry up to the present time . At the conclusion of the Lecture , Comp . Brown was cordially applauded , and a propositi n was made that the best thanks' of the chapter should be recorded on the minutes for the very interesting , painstaking , and talented address he had given , hoping that he would continue his researches into the Royal art , and add to the obligations he had already conferred upon them . Several members expressed the
gratification they had received in listening to the Lecture , and stated that it would give them a renewed stimulus to investigate lor themselves the principles upon which Ro , al Arch Masonry was founded . The motion was put and carried unanimously , and Comp . Brown said the approbation lie had received would be an encouragement to him to pursue his enquiries in the future for Ihe purpose of elucidating some of the beauties of the Supreme Degree . The installation of Principals will be worked on tee second Tuesday in each of the months of March , April , and Mav . The chapter was then closed .
