Last week , in our article on the approaching Festival of the Rtyal Masonic Benevolent Institution , we enumerated the principal drawbacks to the success of that event , one of them being that till then the Secretary had failed in his efforts to obtain the services of some distinguished brother to act as Chairman . We are

now in a position to announce that this difficulty has at length been overcome , and that Bro , C . E . Keyser , J . P ., one of the Junior Grand Deacons of the year , and Trustee and Patron of the Institution , has very kindly placed his seivicis in this capacity at the disposal of the Committee of Management , and that his offer has been accepted . Lite , but it is something to have removed the difficulty , and we feel sure that Bro . Keyser will be all the more readily supported when it is known that he accepted the invitation to preside only when every t ffort to obtain a Provincial Grand Master or more prominent Grand Officer as Chairman had been made and failed .

However , Bro . Keyser is one of our ablest as well as one of our most distinguished members . He was initiated in the Isaac Newton University Lodge , No . S 59 , Cambridge , while yet a minor , some 20 years since . He is a P . M . of the Watford Lodge , No .

404—of which he has been a member for upwards of 16 years—a P . P . G . W . Hertfordshire , and S . W . of the Time Immemorial Lodge of Antiquity , No . 2 . He served on the Board of General Purposes in 1 S 90 , and has been a member of the Committee of Grand Chapter

since 1809 . He has always taken a deep interest in our Institutions , and at the present time is a Patron of all three , a member of the Board of Management of the Boys' School , and was last year elected a Trustee of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . Had

not the announcement of his Chairmanship come upon us so late and so suddenly , it is probable that Hertfordshire , with which he has been so long associated , might have given him timely support , notwithstanding the grand spurt it made under Bro . Halsey , M . P ., its

Provincial Grand Master , at the Benevolent Jubilee in February of last year . But even at the eleventh hour , perhaps , it will do a something in behalf of the unexpected Chairmanship of one of its brightest and most particular stars . We hope so I

Speth , Secretary of the Quatuor Coronati Lodge , who underwent a somewhat serious operation a short while since , is making fair progress towards recovery . members and their friends on behalf of the Punjab Masonic Institution . This is but one indication , of many , of the great liberality of this small , but intensel y Masonic , lodge . The list is both suggestive and inspiring . ' * » »

The lodge heads the roll of honour with 700 rupees , followed by Bro . H . H . the Maharaja of Kuch Behar , G . C . I . E ., with 500 rupees , and several others with 100 or 50 rupees each , including Sikhs , Parsees , as well as

non-Masons , of whom H . H . Prince Christian Victor , G . C . B ., is one . Assuredly the " Indian Aldershot " is to the front Masonically , and sets a grand example to the Craft everywhere .

To-day ( Friday ) a ceremony of much interest to t ie Irish Masonic world takes place in the Masonic Hall , Dublin , i . e ., the installation of General Lord Viscount Wolseley , K . P ., G . C . B ., G . C . M . G ., Commander of the Forces in Ireland , etc ., as W . M . of his mother lodge—¦ "The Military" Lodge of Ireland , No . 728 .

Lord Wolseley was initiated ( as Lieut . G . J , Wolseley , 90 th Light Infantry ) at an emergency meeting of this lodge on the 13 th April , 1854 , received his Second Degree on the 21 st of the same month , and his Third on the 21 st July of same year , previous to his departure for the Crimea in December , 1854 . * * »

Some years ago , having occasion to be in Ireland , he took the opportunity of visiting 728 , and met with a hearty and cordial reception from the brethren in lodge assembled , and on his being quartered here ns Commander of the Forces he rejoined the lodge , and , as above mentioned , assumes the reins cf government on Friday evening .
