C ) , congratulated Lodge Level on its success . He said that svhen the question of opening a lodge at Kirkee svas mooted , he feared that doing so svould harm the lodges

working at Poona , but from the experience of the past fesv months he thought his fears svere groundless , and he wished Lodge Level every success . Bro . Fearn , R . W . M . 343 ( S . C ) , and other Mastersa nd Past Masters responded in suitable terms . A very pleasant evening svas spent , and the brethren separated after after giving the Tyler ' s toast .

POONA . Lodge St . Andrew in the East ( No . 343 , S . C ) . —On Tuesday , the 13 th January , the Freemasons' Hall vvas the scene of a very interesting function vvhen Bro . Khan Bahadur Dinshah D . Khambatta , the W . M . elect , was installed , svith all befitting ceremony , in the chair of K . S . The interior of the spacious banqueting

hall had been most tastefully decorated and hung svith banners , the latter shosving in bright relief the photographs of all the Past Masters of Orion Lodge and St . Andrew ' s Lodge svho have graced the Eastern chair . The impressive ceremony inside the lodge lasted an hour and a half , and svas conducted by the retiring Master , Bro . Fearn , in a masterly and able manner , Bro . Khambatta

being declared the ruler of the lodge for the ensuing 12 months . This is the second chair during the course of the year in vvhich the Khan Bahadur has been placed , for it svas only the other day svhen sve congratulated him on his having been installed Master of the Mallet and Chisel Mark Lodge , under the banner of the English Constitution . It is certainly a rare honour for a brother of the mystic tie

to hold the sway of tsvo lodges of tsvo Constitutions and of two different Orders , and it speaks vo ! umes for the perfect harmony that reigns among the numbers ofthe Fraternity . The brethren aftersvards adjourned to the banquet , svhere cavers svere laid for 40 . The number svould have been muc ' v larger , but on account of the Camp of Exercise many brethren svere precluded from attending . After dinner the

usual toasts of obligation svere given by the VVorshipfuI Master , among these being " Her Majesty Oueen-Empress of India and the Craft , " " H R . H . the PrTnce of VVales , the Grand Master of English Freemasonry and Patron of Scotch , and the rest of the Roya ! Family , " "Sir Henry Morland , Grand Master of all Scottish Freemasonry , " and "H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , Deputy Grand Master

of Bombay . " With the toast of the Grand Master of all Scottish Freemasonry in India , Bro . Sir Henry Morland , the name of Bro . Capt . Wise svas coupled as one of the Grand Officers . In a few choice words Bro . Wise vvas accorded a most cordial welcome to the lodge , of which the VV . M . said he svas such an esteemed member and an ornament .

This toast , like the others , svas drunk svith all Masonic honours . The next toast vvas the toast of the evening , and vvas given by Bro . AA'ise in an impressive speech , which svant of space forbids our publishing in extenso . In it he eulogised the good qualities of the nesv Master , Bro . Khambatta , and assured the brethren that a better selection could not have

. been made , as from the tact and ability displayed by Bro . Khambatta in his management of other Orders , especially the Royal Arch chapter , he ( the speaker ) svas convinced that the government of the lodge vvas in safe hands , and the lodge was therefore to be congratulated . To this the VV . M ., amid great applause , made a befitting reply , adding that succeeding as he did to a brilliant array

of Past Masters of the lodge , he was at a great disadvantage , that the tsvo regimental lodges—Glittering Star and Sphinx ( I . C)—being added to the station svould enhance his difficulty , but that he svould do his best , and he asked the brethren to suspend judgment till he had rendered an account of his stesvardship next year . In return he proposed "The Health of all the Past Masters , " coupling

theresvith the name of Bro . Fearn , the retiring Master . The latter , he stated , had proved an able Master , had maintained the prestige of the institution , had added to the number of its members , had managed its funds in a manner svorthy of a finance minister , and , regardless of the state of his health , had conducted its duties admirably . He summed up his speech by calling on the brethren to drink to the

health of that ( as he called him ) svoithy man and Mason . This was done svith all Masonic honours . "The Sister Lodges" and "The Visitors" svere then toasted by the VV . M ., and " The Officers , Present and Past" by Bro . Wise , and responded to as cheerfully and enthusiastically . At the request of the W . M ., Bro . AVise added a toast not on the list to " The Health of the Brethren of the Koyal

Pushers . " In touching language he alluded to their approaching departure for Quetta , and spoke of the willing help they had rendered ' during their stay , and how glad theMasons svould be to svelcome them back to Poona . I his toast svas drunk amid prolonged cheers , and was responded to by their representatives . The Tyler ' s toast brought this , one of the most successful gatherings , to an end , and svas the signal for general dispersion , svhich took place about midnight . —Da-can Herald .

ANCIENT AND ACCEPTED RITE . BOMBAY . St . John ' s Chapter ( No . 3 , s . C . )—The installation meeting of this chapter svas held at Freemasons ' Hall , Byculla , on Shrove Tuesday , the ioth ult . The minutes of the previous regular and emergency meetings vvere read and confirmed , and a satisfactory state of

accounts presented . A successful ballot was then taken for Comp . W . B . Green , iS ( E . C ) , as a joining member . The retiring M . W . S . then gave an account of the work of the chapter during the past year , svhich shosved that there had been six exaltees , and one rejoining during the year , and that the chapter had been almost entirely refurnished . Khambatta , the W . M . elect , was installed , svith all befitting ceremony , in the chair of K . S . The interior of the spacious banqueting

hall had been most tastefully decorated and hung svith banners , the latter shosving in bright relief the photographs of all the Past Masters of Orion Lodge and St . Andrew ' s Lodge svho have graced the Eastern chair . The impressive ceremony inside the lodge lasted an hour and a half , and svas conducted by the retiring Master , Bro . Fearn , in a masterly and able manner , Bro . Khambatta

being declared the ruler of the lodge for the ensuing 12 months . This is the second chair during the course of the year in vvhich the Khan Bahadur has been placed , for it svas only the other day svhen sve congratulated him on his having been installed Master of the Mallet and Chisel Mark Lodge , under the banner of the English Constitution . It is certainly a rare honour for a brother of the mystic tie

to hold the sway of tsvo lodges of tsvo Constitutions and of two different Orders , and it speaks vo ! umes for the perfect harmony that reigns among the numbers ofthe Fraternity . of Bombay . " With the toast of the Grand Master of all Scottish Freemasonry in India , Bro . Sir Henry Morland , the name of Bro . Capt . Wise svas coupled as one of the Grand Officers . In a few choice words Bro . Wise vvas accorded a most cordial welcome to the lodge , of which the VV . M . said he svas such an esteemed member and an ornament .

This toast , like the others , svas drunk svith all Masonic honours . The next toast vvas the toast of the evening , and vvas given by Bro . AA'ise in an impressive speech , which svant of space forbids our publishing in extenso . In it he eulogised the good qualities of the nesv Master , Bro . Khambatta , and assured the brethren that a better selection could not have

. been made , as from the tact and ability displayed by Bro . Khambatta in his management of other Orders , especially the Royal Arch chapter , he ( the speaker ) svas convinced that the government of the lodge vvas in safe hands , and the lodge was therefore to be congratulated . To this the VV . M ., amid great applause , made a befitting reply , adding that succeeding as he did to a brilliant array

of Past Masters of the lodge , he was at a great disadvantage , that the tsvo regimental lodges—Glittering Star and Sphinx ( I . C)—being added to the station svould enhance his difficulty , but that he svould do his best , and he asked the brethren to suspend judgment till he had rendered an account of his stesvardship next year . In return he proposed "The Health of all the Past Masters , " coupling

theresvith the name of Bro . Fearn , the retiring Master . The latter , he stated , had proved an able Master , had maintained the prestige of the institution , had added to the number of its members , had managed its funds in a manner svorthy of a finance minister , and , regardless of the state of his health , had conducted its duties admirably . He summed up his speech by calling on the brethren to drink to the
