The hearty reception given to the toastof "The W . M . " testified to the high esteem in which Bro . Elstone is held amongst the brethren , both as a good worker and for the interest he has alsvays taken in the advancement of the lodge . Bro . R . Derry , in proposing "The Masonic Charities , " alluded to the generous manner in vvhich the Kent lodges

had rallied round their deservedly popular Provincial Grand Master , Earl Amherst , on his presiding at the recent Festival of the Benevolent Institution . Bro . Derry thanked the brethren for sending him up as a Stesvard on that occasion , and also for the handsome sum contributed to his list . The names of Bros . Gaisford , P . M . 7 S 1 , and McLeod , Secretary of the Boys' Institution , vvere coupled svith the

toast . Bro . Gaisford , in reply , complimented the brethren upon the good svork done by them for the Charities through their Masonic Association , and he trusted that having made so good a commencement in sending a Stesvard , they svould continue to do so by sending one every year , svith an everincreasing list , for the benefit of their excellent Institutions .

Bro . J . McLeod made an eloquent and stirring appeal on behalf of the Boys' , and he pointed out the disadvantages that this Institution laboured under , particularly vvith respect to the small amount of its funded property as compared with the other Charities , thereby rendering it more

dependent upon the proceeds of its annual Festival , and he hoped that next year they svould send up a Stesvard svith as good a list , if not better , for the "Boys" than they had recently done for the " Old People . " The musical arrangements svere under the able direction of Bro . C . M . Glaysher .

In appreciation of those long services , he ( the AV . M . ) had great pleasure in placing the handsome jesvel upon his breast , and trusted the G . A . O . T . U . might long spare him to svear it . Upon rising to reply , Bro . Dodge svas so taken by surprise that it

vvas some time before he could proceed j but , recovering from the shock , he reviewed his Masonic career from initiation into Masonry ( he being the first initiate in the lodge ) and his connection vvith the lodge of instruction . Respecting the latter , he expressed himself proud of its success , strongly urging the junior members to avail themselves of its privilege in order to obtain that correct instruction and

information by vvhich means alone they can make themselves efficient in the svorking of our beautiful ritual , and so become qualified for the higher honours as rulers in the Craft . He , therefore , thanked the brethren for the expression of their regard , and assured them his services svere ever at their disposal . The follosving inscription svas engraved on the jesvel :

C . M . Glaysher .

and to his having filled the office of Treasurer of the lodge for some 15 years , and that of Preceptor of the lodge of instruction upsvards of 12 years .
