Glass's list as Steward of the Boys' Institution . The W . M ., Bro . Poole , initiated Messrs . H . Humphreys , and Charles Hillam whose working was appreciated by the members and visitors . Bro . Poole thtn proceeded to install Bro . 'Thomas Glass as his successor which he performed in a most

commendable manner . The following were appointed and invested as officers for the vear : Bros . J . B . D'Ardenne , S . W . ; G . Stockwin , J . W . ; " R . Burleton , P . M . Treas . ; I . Rawes Baron , Sec . ; C H . Berry , S . D . ; W . Robinson , J . D . ; T . S . Dickie , I . G . ; M . Christian , P . M ., D . C . 1 VV . II . Purkiss , A . D . C ; T . Dodson , P . M . and P . P . Smith , Stwds . ; H . Dclma , Org . ; and ] . Marsh , Tyler . The delivery of the usual addresses was p . bly and impressively

rendered by Bro . VV . G . Poole , who received the hearty congratulations of the brethren . The lodge was then closed , and the large companyadjourned to an excellent banquet supplied by Bro . A . Clemow in his usual superb style , and admirably served under his personal superintendence and that of his energetic manager , Bro . Evans . The VV . M . gave the usual loyal and Masonic toasts in eloquent terms .

In responding to the toast of " The Grand Officers Present and Past , " Bro . Hogard , whose name was coupled with the toast , raid that it was . 1 great honour to have to respond 10 the toast which had been , given in so able a manner by their good VV . M . 'The Grand Officers were always willing to do anything to promote the interests of the Craft , and referred to Bro . Capt . VV : il ! s , who stood in the unique position of having been appointed a Grand Officer two years in f ucccssicn , as G . Stwd . this year , and as Grand Standard Bearer for the year 1 S 94-95 .

Bro . VV . G . Poole , the I . P . M ., proposed "The Health of the W . M . " He said that it was his privilege and great pleasuie to submit the toast . Bro . Glass was an excellent friend , and the more one knew of him , the bettor he was appreciated . He would make an excellent ruler , and would carry out his dutier . to the . satisfaction of the brethren . He had brought two initiates that evening , which was , he thought , . 1 good augury for the future . He

was proud that he bad installed Bro . Glass , and from what he had done in the past , there was no doubt that he would have a successful and happy yer-r cf office . 'The toast was drunk with the greatest enthusiasm , and Bro . Glass - , on rising ( 0 respond , received an ovation . He said he replied to the toast with mingled f-jrlingsof gratitude , humility and pride—gratitude to the G . A . O . T . U . because he was able to preside as their VV . M , whereas three weeks ago he was very ill ; humility , because he knew of his failings

through ill-health , and was unable to do all that he would desire ; and pride—might he say pardonable pride —because he had been elected to his exalted position by the unanimous vote uf the urc-lhu n . lie hoped to do his very best to keep up the great dignity of thc 1-j . during the time he occupied the chair , and he took that opportunity to record how very much he appreciated their able co-operation , without which he would have not been able to have carried out his duties . The VV . M . then rose and said he had yet another very pleasing duty to perform , which was to present Bro . T . 15 . Dodson , P . M ., the "father" of the lodge , with a handsome gold watch , which had been subscribed for by the

members as a small token of what they felt towards him and for his valuable services to the lodge . Bro . Dodson bad been a member far 21 years , having attained his majority in March last , and had only been absent from their meetings twice in that time . He had initiated many members and had done good service in the cause of Charity , being always one of the first to help in all cases in which the lodge had been interested . 'The inscription on the watch was :

"Presented to bro . T . B . Dodson , P . M ., upon his completing 21 years as a member , and as a mark of their great esteem and regard . " At the request of the . VV . M ,, Bro . Wade in an eloquent speech added a few words to those of the W . M . ' s . He said that be had known Bro . Dodson for many years , and had watched his footsteps in the lodge with great interest . He was a good fellow , and ever ready to do anything to

promote the happiness of the brethren , and he hoped he would be with them for many years . Bro . T . B . Dodson , P . M ., on rising to respond , was enthusiastically received . He thanked the VV . M . and Bro . Wade for their kind but fl ittering words , and the members for their handsome gift . He had had the- honour of initiating many of the members who had since been through the chair , and he was always willing to do anything for the

lodge . " The Charities , " coupled with the name of Bro . J . M . McLeod , Sec . R . M . I . B ., having been duly honoured , he replied in very eloquent terms , urging the members to augment the W . M . 's list as Steward for the " Boys . " In eulogistic terms the VV . He s-. id that at that late hour he was somewhat handicapped , and could not find words to thank the VV . M . and the members fur their hearty reception of the visitors , but he felt he must refer to the working of the I . P . M ., Bro . Poole , which was splendid , and , as an old Mason , be tendered him his congratulations . He had had the pleasure of knoving their VV . M . for

manyyears , and Bro . Dodson , their father , who was yet a young man , but he had done good service to the lodge . He felt sure , the large array of visitors had enjoyed themselves very much . Bros . J . Osborn , H . Sprake , L . Simon , J . VV . Clarke , Gillard , and VV . B . Harding , also replied , bearing testimony to the excellent working , the lavish hospitality of thc members , and congratulating the VV . M . on the brilliant

success of his installation . The other toasts were " The Past Masters " and " The Officers of the Lodge , " to which several good speeches were made in reply by Bros . T . B . Dodson , P . M . ; R . Burleton , P . M ., Treas . ; and J . Rawes Baron , Sec ; the latter remarking that . the VV . M . had introduced him into

the lodge , and he was honoured by his having again appointed him Secretary , and he hoped from his heart that he wculd have a successful year of oflice , as he deserved it . The Tyler ' s toast brought to a close a memorable and happy evening , and one that will long be remembered by those who had the good fortune to be present .

I he vocal entertainment was carried out under the able direction of the Organist , Bro . Hubert Delma , in which the following took part -. Bros . Chas . Hillam , Alison Lister , B . A . Lodge , Miss Dorothy Wood , and Miss Maud Santley , the ladies deserving special mention for their efforts . Bro . Thomas Glass was initiated in the Dalhousie Lodge , on the 12 th March , 1 SS 5 ; raised in the Prince ofjWales Lodge , No . 1003 , Jersey , 3 rd June , 1 SS 5 ; and exalted in

the Dalhousie Ro 3 > al Arch Chapter , 10 th June , 1 SS 6 . He was honoured in being appointed by the Right Hon . Bro . Col . E . C . Malet de Carteret , Past Grand Master of Jersey , to the Oflice of P . G . Std . Br . for the province , and was invested in the Provincial Grand Lodge of Jersey on October 22 nd , 1 S 91 . Bro . Glass is a vice-president of all

the Masonic Charities , and is somewhat popular amongst the Masons of North London , having / . on three occasions , acted as Hon . Treasurer under the presidency of Bro . Herbert Sprake , VV . M . 2192 , for the annual North London Masonic Uenevolent Bail , when , as the result ot the efforts of the committee , nearly £ 300 was realised for the three Institutions .

Bros . Simpson and Crooks were duly raised to the Degree or M . M . by the VV . M . in a most impressive manner , and Bro . Ijos-. vDi th passed . A ballot being taken , Bro . Jacob Pickett , M . D ., was unanimously elected VV . M . for the

ensuing year ; Bro . G . Danfoi .. ' 'Thomas was re-elected 'Treasurer ; and Bru . Samuel Ellis , 'T yler . A vote of seven guineas for a Past Master ' s jewel was carried with great enthusiasm . The W . M ., in thanking the brethren for tiie hearty manner with which they had carried that vote , said it was really a groat pleasure lo preside over thc

A : xulapius Lodge , for dining the three years of its existence there hail not been one tingle disagreement among the members . Every meeting bad been characterised by perfect harmony , and he was glad of that opportunity to ii . form the brethren that Bro . Lennox Browne , the lirst u . l : - l . l' . M . _ . would have the great honour of having the C ' . ii :: of D . G . D . ol C . conferred upon him at the next

Craft Masonry.

Grand Lodge meeting , the brethren at once endorsed the wish of the other lodges of which Bro . Browne is a member to present him with his Grand Lodge clothing . Bros . W . Arbuthnot Lane , and C Luxmore Drew having been appointed Auditors , the lodge was closed . The brethren and visitors then sat down to an excellent dinner , after which the loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

The S . W . was allowed to propose an extra toast , viz ., "The Health of Bro . Professor G . Mare Philip-son , " who , although an original member , had not been able to visit thc lodge before . The S . W . alluded to Bro . Philipson ' s distinguished career at Cambridge , his Professorship of Medicine in the University of Durham , and last , though by no means least , his very high position as President of the British Medical Associ ation , a post conferred by over 12 , 000

members of thc profession , and concluded by hoping that Bro . Phiiipson would be able to attend frequently the lod ge meeting ? , and one day would occupy the chair of K . S . Bro . Professor Phiiipson , in replying , thanked the brethren for the quite unexpected honour they had done him , and although an old disciple of / Esculapius _ , he was , he was sorry to say , a very young Mason , having been the first

initiate of " Universities " lodge four years ago . The more he saw of Masonry the more he liked it , and he hoped to be able to attend frequently , as the distance from London would allow him , the meetings of the / Esculapius Lodgea ledge he had taken a keen and deep interest in from i ' s

birth , and he now took the opportunity of thanking his esteemed friend , Bro . Dutton , for introducing him as an original member . With such distinguished members of the profession and Masonry as the -disculapius Lodge possesses as officers , he had no fear of its future prosperity and support of all medical Masons .

Provincial Meetings.

PROVINCIAL MEETINGS .

CHORE TON-CUM-HA RD Y . Chorlton Lodge ( No . 1887 ) . —The yearly installation was held on Thursday , the 12 th instant , at the Masonic Hail . As is usual at this celebrated lodge , there was a large assembly of influential brethren present . In addition to that , Bro . John Travers , S . W ., VV . M . elect ,

is very popular amongst the members of the lodge , as well as having a large circle of friends . The brethren having assembled , the lodge was opened by Bro . H . H . Martyne , VV . M ., who also installed his successor in an admirable manner . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , the following Provincial Grand Officers were appointed as Installing Officers : Bros .

Schofield , P . P . G . D ., as S . W . ; Charles Heywood , P . P . G . D . C , as J . W . ; Joseph Chadderton , P . P . A . G . Sec , as I . G . ; and G . S . Smith , P . G . Organist , as Organist . Bro . Travers , S . W ., W . M . elect , was presented by Bro . Hall , and the beautiful ceremony performed , and the W . M . duly declared and saluted . Bro . Charles Martyne presented the working tools , Bro . Samuel Locke , P . M ., addressed the VV . M .,

Bro . Bedford , P . M ., the Wardens , and Bro . Schofield the brethren ; whilst Bro . Crompton , P . M ., addressed the new officers in the following manner : Bros . J . Travers , W . M . ; J . B . Wolstenholme , S . W . ; E , T . Trevor Smith , J . W . ; the Rev . F . E . Thomas , Chap , ; J . Chadfield , Treas . ; J . Crompton , Sec . ; T . Shaw , S . D . ; J . Kennedy , J . D . ; F . S . A banquet which subsequently followed was well attended , and the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and responded to . During the ceremony of investiture of officers , there was quite an ovation upon the entrance of Bro . W . Chesshyre ,

P . M ., Tyler , as this was the 21 st time he had been invested to that office . Some very pleasing observations were made by the investing officer , which were well deserved in every sense of the word , as he has made for himself a career that every brother feels endeared to him . We heartily congratulate him upon completing so long a service , and trust he may be spared many more years to enjoy the love of his brethren .

HAMPTON COURT . Wolsey Lodge ( No . 1656 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held at the Greyhound Hotel , on Monday , the 9 th inst . Among those present were Bros . H . J . Bond , VV . M . ; J . Spooner , S . W . ; VV . T . Peat , P . P . G . Org ,, J . W . ; J . Featherstone , P . M ., P . P . G . P ., Treas . ; Capt . Walls , P . M ., P . P . G . W ., G . Stwd ., Sec ; Rice , S . D . ;

Simpson , J . D . ; Gentle , I . G . ; F . Figg , Org . ; T . Grant , I . P . M . ; Drummond , P . M ., P . P . G . P . ; and TL Sapsworth , P . M . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . Brown was impressively raised to thc Third Degree . Bro . J . Spooner was elected VV . M ., Bro . J . Featherstone , P . M ., re-elected Treasurer , and Bro . J . Gilbert , P . G . Tyler , Tyler . Bro . Cbarman , P . M ., was

elected a joining member . A vote of condolence was passed to tne widow of Bro . Alexander , an initiate of the lodge . A Past Master ' s jewel was voted with acclamation to the W . M . Apologies for non-attendance were received from Bros . E . Dare , P . M ., P . G . Std . Br . Middx . ; F . L . Chandler , P . M ., P . P . G . P ., and others . Three names for initiation at the next meeting having been handed in , thc

lodge was closed and a banquet followed . Upon the removal of the cloth , the customary toasts received full justice . Bro . R . Drummond , P . P . G . P ., responded on behalf of " The Provincial Grand Officers . " The I . P . M ., in proposing The Health of the VV . M ., " said Bro . Bond , whose year of office was just drawing to a

close , had discharged his duties well , and in every respect had proved himself worthy of the position to which he had been elected . The VV . M ., in reply , said he had not had anything like thc amount of work his predecessor had . However , he had endeavoured to do his best for the lodge , and at the next meeting he hoped , not only to initiate the three

candidates , but also to install his successor . The toast of " The Visitors" having been duly proposed and responded to , the VV . M . gave "' The Master elect . In the course ol his speech he said that Bro . Spooner , was an initiate of the lodge and a regular attendant at the ari

lodge of instruction . Bro . Sapwortn , P . M ., was excellent Preceptor , and the Master elect was an attentive and apt pupil . ,, Bro . Spooner having replied , "Thc Past Masters followed , to which toast Bro . Thomas Grant , I . P . M ., ahlj responded ; Bro . Sapworth , P . M ., also spoke .

In responding to the toast of " The Grand Officers Present and Past , " Bro . Hogard , whose name was coupled with the toast , raid that it was . 1 great honour to have to respond 10 the toast which had been , given in so able a manner by their good VV . M . 'The Grand Officers were always willing to do anything to promote the interests of the Craft , and referred to Bro . Capt . VV : il ! s , who stood in the unique position of having been appointed a Grand Officer two years in f ucccssicn , as G . Stwd . this year , and as Grand Standard Bearer for the year 1 S 94-95 .

Bro . VV . G . Poole , the I . P . M ., proposed "The Health of the W . M . " He said that it was his privilege and great pleasuie to submit the toast . Bro . Glass was an excellent friend , and the more one knew of him , the bettor he was appreciated . He would make an excellent ruler , and would carry out his dutier . to the . satisfaction of the brethren . He had brought two initiates that evening , which was , he thought , . 1 good augury for the future . He

was proud that he bad installed Bro . Glass , and from what he had done in the past , there was no doubt that he would have a successful and happy yer-r cf office . during the time he occupied the chair , and he took that opportunity to record how very much he appreciated their able co-operation , without which he would have not been able to have carried out his duties . The VV . M . then rose and said he had yet another very pleasing duty to perform , which was to present Bro . T . 15 . Dodson , P . M ., the "father" of the lodge , with a handsome gold watch , which had been subscribed for by the

members as a small token of what they felt towards him and for his valuable services to the lodge . Bro . Dodson bad been a member far 21 years , having attained his majority in March last , and had only been absent from their meetings twice in that time . He had initiated many members and had done good service in the cause of Charity , being always one of the first to help in all cases in which the lodge had been interested . 'The inscription on the watch was :

"Presented to bro . T . B . Dodson , P . M ., upon his completing 21 years as a member , and as a mark of their great esteem and regard . " At the request of the . VV . M ,, Bro . Wade in an eloquent speech added a few words to those of the W . M . ' s . He said that be had known Bro . Dodson for many years , and had watched his footsteps in the lodge with great interest . He was a good fellow , and ever ready to do anything to

promote the happiness of the brethren , and he hoped he would be with them for many years . Bro . T . B . Dodson , P . M ., on rising to respond , was enthusiastically received . He thanked the VV . M . and Bro . Wade for their kind but fl ittering words , and the members for their handsome gift . He had had the- honour of initiating many of the members who had since been through the chair , and he was always willing to do anything for the

lodge . " The Charities , " coupled with the name of Bro . J . M . McLeod , Sec . R . M . I . B ., having been duly honoured , he replied in very eloquent terms , urging the members to augment the W . M . 's list as Steward for the " Boys . " In eulogistic terms the VV . manyyears , and Bro . Dodson , their father , who was yet a young man , but he had done good service to the lodge . He felt sure , the large array of visitors had enjoyed themselves very much . Bros . J . Osborn , H . Sprake , L . Simon , J . VV . Clarke , Gillard , and VV . B . Harding , also replied , bearing testimony to the excellent working , the lavish hospitality of thc members , and congratulating the VV . M . on the brilliant

success of his installation . The other toasts were " The Past Masters " and " The Officers of the Lodge , " to which several good speeches were made in reply by Bros . T . B . Dodson , P . M . ; R . Burleton , P . M ., Treas . ; and J . Rawes Baron , Sec ; the latter remarking that . the VV . M . had introduced him into

the lodge , and he was honoured by his having again appointed him Secretary , and he hoped from his heart that he wculd have a successful year of oflice , as he deserved it . The Tyler ' s toast brought to a close a memorable and happy evening , and one that will long be remembered by those who had the good fortune to be present .

Malet de Carteret , Past Grand Master of Jersey , to the Oflice of P . G . Std . Br . for the province , and was invested in the Provincial Grand Lodge of Jersey on October 22 nd , 1 S 91 . Bro . Glass is a vice-president of all

the Masonic Charities , and is somewhat popular amongst the Masons of North London , having / . on three occasions , acted as Hon . Treasurer under the presidency of Bro . Herbert Sprake , VV . M . 2192 , for the annual North London Masonic Uenevolent Bail , when , as the result ot the efforts of the committee , nearly £ 300 was realised for the three Institutions .

Craft Masonry.

Grand Lodge meeting , the brethren at once endorsed the wish of the other lodges of which Bro . Browne is a member to present him with his Grand Lodge clothing . Bros . W . Arbuthnot Lane , and C Luxmore Drew having been appointed Auditors , the lodge was closed . The brethren and visitors then sat down to an excellent dinner , after which the loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

The S . W . was allowed to propose an extra toast , viz ., "The Health of Bro . Professor G . Mare Philip-son , " who , although an original member , had not been able to visit thc lodge before . The S . W . alluded to Bro . Philipson ' s distinguished career at Cambridge , his Professorship of Medicine in the University of Durham , and last , though by no means least , his very high position as President of the British Medical Associ ation , a post conferred by over 12 , 000

members of thc profession , and concluded by hoping that Bro . Phiiipson would be able to attend frequently the lod ge meeting ? , and one day would occupy the chair of K . S . Bro . Professor Phiiipson , in replying , thanked the brethren for the quite unexpected honour they had done him , and although an old disciple of / Esculapius _ , he was , he was sorry to say , a very young Mason , having been the first

initiate of " Universities " lodge four years ago . The more he saw of Masonry the more he liked it , and he hoped to be able to attend frequently , as the distance from London would allow him , the meetings of the / Esculapius Lodgea ledge he had taken a keen and deep interest in from i ' s

birth , and he now took the opportunity of thanking his esteemed friend , Bro . Dutton , for introducing him as an original member . With such distinguished members of the profession and Masonry as the -disculapius Lodge possesses as officers , he had no fear of its future prosperity and support of all medical Masons .

As is usual at this celebrated lodge , there was a large assembly of influential brethren present . In addition to that , Bro . John Travers , S . W ., VV . M . elect ,

is very popular amongst the members of the lodge , as well as having a large circle of friends . The brethren having assembled , the lodge was opened by Bro . H . H . Martyne , VV . M ., who also installed his successor in an admirable manner . Some very pleasing observations were made by the investing officer , which were well deserved in every sense of the word , as he has made for himself a career that every brother feels endeared to him . We heartily congratulate him upon completing so long a service , and trust he may be spared many more years to enjoy the love of his brethren .

HAMPTON COURT . Wolsey Lodge ( No . 1656 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held at the Greyhound Hotel , on Monday , the 9 th inst . Among those present were Bros . H . J . Bond , VV . M . ; J . close , had discharged his duties well , and in every respect had proved himself worthy of the position to which he had been elected . The VV . M ., in reply , said he had not had anything like thc amount of work his predecessor had . However , he had endeavoured to do his best for the lodge , and at the next meeting he hoped , not only to initiate the three

candidates , but also to install his successor . The toast of " The Visitors" having been duly proposed and responded to , the VV . M . gave "' The Master elect . In the course ol his speech he said that Bro . Spooner , was an initiate of the lodge and a regular attendant at the ari
