the Sublime Degree of a M . M . by the W . M ., assisted by Bro . A . Jackson , P . M ., the traditional history being given and working tools presented by Bro . George Marshall , P . M . Bro . Smithson gave an excellent exhortation , calling upon the brethren to support the West Yorkshire Jubilee presentations , also pointing out the benefits of our noble

Masonic Institutions , and made a strong and noble appeal on their behalf . Let us hope his words may not be forgotten or his appeal made in vain . A vote of thanks was accorded Bro . Smithson , which he suitably acknowledged . Business being finished , the lodge was closed , when the brethren adjourned to supper , after which the Masonic toasts were duly honoured and a very pleasant musical

evening spent . TROWBRIDGE . —Lodge of Concord ( No , 632 ) . —The usual monthl y meeting of this successful lodge was held on the ioth inst . Amongst those present were Bros . F . Kelland , W . M . ; J . E . Hayward , P . M . ; R . de M . Lawson , P . P . S . G . W . ; C . Gauntlett , P . M . ; W . I . Mann . P . P . G . S .: H . E . Bishop , P . M . ; T . S . Hill

P . M . ; J . H . Foley , I . P . M . ; J . L . C Palmer , S . W . ; J . Pocock , J . W . ; H . Applegate , F . Selfe , W . R . Brown , A . Cox , H . H . R . Chapman , H . White , T . B . Barnes , H . Mundy , G . Snailum , J . Gouldsmith , Wear , J . Lansdown , and several visiting brethren . After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed , Bro . C . J . Offer was raised to the Sublime

Degree of a Master Mason , after which Bros . W . Walker and S . Pickard were passed to the Second Degree . The ceremonies were most impressively performed by the W . Master , who , at the close of the proceedings , rose and said that he had still another duty to perform , and one of highly pleasing and gratifying character , viz ., to present to Bro . I . H . Foley a Past Master's jewel , subscribed for by the

members of the lodge . The W . M . spoke in a most appreciative manner of the great interest Bro . Foley took in Masonry , and of the urbanity and courtesy which always marked his conduct , making special allusion to the able manner which he had filled the chair during his year of office , and of the impressive way which he performed the installation in January last . Bro . Foley , in accepting the jewel , said he was completely

taken by surprise , and , in a few appropriate remarks , referred to the great interest he felt in Masonry , believing that it vvas calculated to make us all better men . The lodge was then closed in due form and for the summer recess . The brethren then adjourned to the George Hotel for refreshments , during which Bro . Gibson , a visitor from a lodge in the North of England , spoke of the great pleasure it had given him to see the very able manner in which the lodge had been conducted that evening .

read and confirmed , the ballot was taken for a candidate for initiation , which proved unanimous . The R . W . Depuly Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Houghton C . Okeover , P . G . W . England , then entered the lodge room , together with Bros . W . Naylor , P . M . 253 , P-G . Sec ; Thomas Cox , P . M . 253 , P . G . Treas . ; and F . Campion , P . M . 253 , P . P . S . G . W . ; and was saluted . Bro . VV . Walkerdine was then

passed to the Second Degree , the charge being given by the acting S . W ., Bro . J . Bland , P . M ., P . P . J . G . D . The W . M . having announced his intention of acting as Steward at the Boys' School Festival , the sum of twenty-five guineas was voted from the lodge funds to be placed on

his list . The report of the Audit Committee was received and adopted . The letter from the M . VV . Pro G . Master respecting the Masonic Jubilee Celebration was read , and the five tickets ordered to be applied for . " Hearty good wishes " having been tendered by the numerous visiting brethren , the lodge was closed .

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

The brethren , to the number of fifty-two , afterwards assembled for supper in the lower hall , after which the W . M . gave the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , which were most heartily received . To the toast of "The Prov . Grand Lodge , " the R . W . Deputy Prov . Grand Master responded in a most fervent and heartfelt speech , alluding to the great pleasure he felt at being able to be present after so long an inverval , and

witnessing its prosperity . Feeling allusions was also made to the Jubilee year , and to the fact that during it one of his own daughters was to be married . The acting S . W . proposed the toast of "The W . M ., " which was well responded to . "The Visitors" were proposed by Bro . G . T . Wright , P . M ., which was responded to by Bros . J . H . Richardson , W . M . 1085 ; W . Silver Hall , W . M . 453 ; and L . Robinson , 625 .

BIRMINGHAM . — Temperance Lodge ( No . 739 ) . —A meeting of the above lodge was held on the 12 th instant , at the Masonic Hall , New-street , when there were present Bros . A . F . Warrillom , W . Cox was raised by the W . M . in an able manner , and a letter of sympathy ordered to be sent to the J . W . on account of heavy family bereavement .

A letter was read from the Pro Grand Master , re Imperial Institute and Grand Lodge Meeting , 13 th June . Apologies for absence were read , and the lodge was closed . A capital banquet ( nn intoxicants ) followed , and the usual toasts were interspersed with recitations and a good musical programme . ( This lodge is the oldest Temperance lodge in England . )

WOTTON-UNDER-EDGE . —Lodge of Sympathy ( No . 855 ) . —The installation of Bro . Henry Perrett as W . M . tor the year took place at the Town Hall , on Tuesday , the ioth inst ., the ceremony being performed by Bro . Frank Millman , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B ., assisted by the D . P . G . M ., Bro . Brooke Smith . The following were

appointed by the W . M . as his officers for the ensuing year Bros . Goold , S . W . ; W . Heath , J . W . ; A . Perrett , Treas . ; L . White , S . D . ; E . H . Henley , J . D . ; R . M . After supper the usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts were honoured . s v ? V , . / ?! ' ' ^ ponding for "The Grand Officers of Kent , said it was a great pleasure to serve under their genial and beloved chief , Earl Amherst . The time was close at hand when the present Grand Officers would have to g _ ive way to their successors . He would have to m » P n

„ nis jewel , and would appeal to Bro . Spinks to say with what pleasure the Grand Officers served under their esteemed Grand Master . He trusted before long that some oMhe excellent Masons in that lodge , who now had not , woul arrive at the dignity of the purple , and cordially , in the name of the officers of the province , thanked them for lheir reception of his name . °

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Bro . Maule , in responding to the toast of his health , said he was suffering from a bad cold , which had prevented him in his own opinion , from doing justice to the work before him . His time , like Bro . Penfold's , was drawing to a close , for ' at their next meeting they would have to elect a successor " , and a gotid one they would have in Bro . Gooding . He congratulated the lodge on that fact , and could assure them

that anything he could do for the comfort or the interest of the lodge he would at all times gladly do . Bros . Moulds , Weston , Spinks , Penfold , and Jolly responded for " The Past Masters . " Bros . Cleal and Palmer responded for "The Visitors , " and Bro . Gooding for "The Officers . "

Bro . Kenneday gave an interesting statement of his visit to the Girls' School on the preceding Monday , and so increased his list , Bro . Penfold adding five guineas , the votes for which he generously placed to the credit of the lod ge . With song and sentiment a few happy hours were spent in brotherly love and harmony .

After a successful ballot for a candidate , the Secretary read a letter from Bro . John Lane , of Torquay , thanking the brethren for his election as an honorary member , and Bro . Whytehead , on behalf of that brother , presented to the lodge a copy of the " Ahiman Rezon , " 1807 , and a vote of thanks was passed for this valuable gift , as also a gift from Bro . Whytehead of a Moira apron mounted for

framing . Bro . Cumberland , P . M ., expressed the pleasure he felt at once more meeting in lodge so many of his old friends in Freemasonry , and sa'd how glad he was to see the lodge making such good progress , working so well , aud acquiring such a valuable collection of Masonic books , engravings ,

and curiosities ; at the rate its collections were increasing it would soon be far ahead of any lodge in the North . Subsequent to the closing of the lodge , there was a right merry meeting in the smoke room , when the old familiar ring of Bro . Cumberland ' s songs once more enlivened the hearts of the Eboracums .

CATERHAM . —Caterham Lodge ( No . 2095 ) . — The annual installation meeting of this young but flourishing lodge , which owes its existence to that well known and worthy Mason , Bro . Hugh D . Sandeman , took place on Saturday , in the pretty Surrey valley that gives the lodge its name . Two brethren having been raised to the Third

Degree by the W . M ., Bro . W . Alfred S . Tomkins , the same brother ably installed Bro . George John Eady , M . D ., in the Master's chair , and the new W . M . then invested his officers as follows : Bros . j . E . Street , S . VV . ; F . A . Guimaraens , J . W . ; A . Lockie , S . D . ; C . VV . C . Webb , J . D . ; A . E . Tower , I . G . ; and J . Holden , Tyler , lhe other members of the lodge present were Bros . Hugh D .

Belore the business of the ludge closed , tiro . Sandeman called attention to a beautiful altar cloth which adorned the pedestal upon which the tracing boards were placed , and which was worked by the lodge by the I . P . M ., bro .

lomkins , and presented to the lodge . Bro . Sandeman proposed a cordial vote of thanks to Bro . Tomkins , which was seconded by the W . M ., and carried by acclamation , a compliment which was suitably acknowledged by Bro . Tomkins . After the labours of the day , which were not concluded till nearly half-past seven , the brethren sat down to

banquet under the genial presidency of the W . M . "The yueen and the Craft" and the toast of " H . R . H . the Grand Master" were loyally honoured ; that of " ihe P . G . M . and the P . G . Officers , Present and Past , " was acknowledged by the D . P . G . M . of Surrey , who said he was proud to be present at so large and good althoug h young lodge .

In response to the toast of " The Prov . Grand Master , the D . Pcov . Grand Master , and the Grand Officers , Presentand Past , " Bro . Sanderson , as usual , made a humourous and characteristic speech , in the course of which he described the rise and progress of Caterham Lodge , and expressed a hope that he might soon see two relorms , one was that on installation days no other work should be undertaken , and

that they might on future occasions meet in a better and more cummouious hall . He went on to speak ot the generous hospitality that had marked bro . Tomkins ' s Mastership , and which had culminated in the beautiful altar cloth presented to the lodge that day . The W . M . then gave "The Health of the I . P . M . " in warm terms ot kindly approbation , and concluded by

handing to Bro . Tomkins a massive silver goblet , suitably engraved , and which he said would be overflowing with love and kindness towards the recipient . Bro . Tomkins acknowledged the kindness that had been shown him , and which touched him deeply , in concluding he gave "The Health of Bro . Eady , " who he felt sure would be an ornament to the Master's chair . Ihe W . M . suitably replied . He had a difficult task

before him in following two such Masters as Bro . Sandeman and Bro . Tomkins . He could say this , however , that ne would endeavour to make a good third . " The Visitors " was acknowledged by Bros . Webber and Cristall , and "The Officers of the Lodge" by Br ° - Street . " The Masonic Press " was responded to by the representative of the Freemason .

Smithson gave an excellent exhortation , calling upon the brethren to support the West Yorkshire Jubilee presentations , also pointing out the benefits of our noble

Masonic Institutions , and made a strong and noble appeal on their behalf . Let us hope his words may not be forgotten or his appeal made in vain . A vote of thanks was accorded Bro . Smithson , which he suitably acknowledged . Business being finished , the lodge was closed , when the brethren adjourned to supper , after which the Masonic toasts were duly honoured and a very pleasant musical

evening spent . TROWBRIDGE . —Lodge of Concord ( No , 632 ) . —The usual monthl y meeting of this successful lodge was held on the ioth inst . Amongst those present were Bros . F . Kelland , W . Offer was raised to the Sublime

Degree of a Master Mason , after which Bros . W . Walker and S . Pickard were passed to the Second Degree . The ceremonies were most impressively performed by the W . Master , who , at the close of the proceedings , rose and said that he had still another duty to perform , and one of highly pleasing and gratifying character , viz ., to present to Bro . I . H . Foley a Past Master's jewel , subscribed for by the

members of the lodge . The W . M . spoke in a most appreciative manner of the great interest Bro . Foley took in Masonry , and of the urbanity and courtesy which always marked his conduct , making special allusion to the able manner which he had filled the chair during his year of office , and of the impressive way which he performed the installation in January last . Bro . Foley , in accepting the jewel , said he was completely

taken by surprise , and , in a few appropriate remarks , referred to the great interest he felt in Masonry , believing that it vvas calculated to make us all better men . The lodge was then closed in due form and for the summer recess . The brethren then adjourned to the George Hotel for refreshments , during which Bro . Gibson , a visitor from a lodge in the North of England , spoke of the great pleasure it had given him to see the very able manner in which the lodge had been conducted that evening .

read and confirmed , the ballot was taken for a candidate for initiation , which proved unanimous . The R . W . Depuly Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Houghton C . Okeover , P . G . W . England , then entered the lodge room , together with Bros . W . Naylor , P . M . 253 , P-G . Sec ; Thomas Cox , P . M . 253 , P . G . Treas . ; and F . Campion , P . M . 253 , P . P . S . G . W . ; and was saluted . Bro . VV . Walkerdine was then

passed to the Second Degree , the charge being given by the acting S . W ., Bro . J . Bland , P . M ., P . P . J . G . D . The W . M . having announced his intention of acting as Steward at the Boys' School Festival , the sum of twenty-five guineas was voted from the lodge funds to be placed on

his list . The report of the Audit Committee was received and adopted . The letter from the M . VV . Pro G . Master respecting the Masonic Jubilee Celebration was read , and the five tickets ordered to be applied for . " Hearty good wishes " having been tendered by the numerous visiting brethren , the lodge was closed .

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

The brethren , to the number of fifty-two , afterwards assembled for supper in the lower hall , after which the W . M . gave the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , which were most heartily received . To the toast of "The Prov . Grand Lodge , " the R . W . Deputy Prov . Grand Master responded in a most fervent and heartfelt speech , alluding to the great pleasure he felt at being able to be present after so long an inverval , and

witnessing its prosperity . Feeling allusions was also made to the Jubilee year , and to the fact that during it one of his own daughters was to be married . The acting S . W . proposed the toast of "The W . M ., " which was well responded to . "The Visitors" were proposed by Bro . G . T . Wright , P . M ., which was responded to by Bros . J . H . Richardson , W . M . 1085 ; W . Silver Hall , W . M . 453 ; and L . Robinson , 625 .

Cox was raised by the W . M . in an able manner , and a letter of sympathy ordered to be sent to the J . W . on account of heavy family bereavement .

A letter was read from the Pro Grand Master , re Imperial Institute and Grand Lodge Meeting , 13 th June . Apologies for absence were read , and the lodge was closed . A capital banquet ( nn intoxicants ) followed , and the usual toasts were interspersed with recitations and a good musical programme . ( This lodge is the oldest Temperance lodge in England . )

WOTTON-UNDER-EDGE . —Lodge of Sympathy ( No . 855 ) . —The installation of Bro . Henry Perrett as W . M . tor the year took place at the Town Hall , on Tuesday , the ioth inst ., the ceremony being performed by Bro . Frank Millman , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B ., assisted by the D . P . G . M ., Bro . Brooke Smith . The following were

The time was close at hand when the present Grand Officers would have to g _ ive way to their successors . He would have to m » P n

„ nis jewel , and would appeal to Bro . Spinks to say with what pleasure the Grand Officers served under their esteemed Grand Master . He trusted before long that some oMhe excellent Masons in that lodge , who now had not , woul arrive at the dignity of the purple , and cordially , in the name of the officers of the province , thanked them for lheir reception of his name . °

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Bro . Maule , in responding to the toast of his health , said he was suffering from a bad cold , which had prevented him in his own opinion , from doing justice to the work before him . His time , like Bro . Penfold's , was drawing to a close , for ' at their next meeting they would have to elect a successor " , and a gotid one they would have in Bro . Gooding . He congratulated the lodge on that fact , and could assure them

that anything he could do for the comfort or the interest of the lodge he would at all times gladly do . Bros . Moulds , Weston , Spinks , Penfold , and Jolly responded for " The Past Masters . " Bros . Cleal and Palmer responded for "The Visitors , " and Bro . Gooding for "The Officers . "

Bro . Kenneday gave an interesting statement of his visit to the Girls' School on the preceding Monday , and so increased his list , Bro . Penfold adding five guineas , the votes for which he generously placed to the credit of the lod ge . With song and sentiment a few happy hours were spent in brotherly love and harmony .

After a successful ballot for a candidate , the Secretary read a letter from Bro . John Lane , of Torquay , thanking the brethren for his election as an honorary member , and Bro . Whytehead , on behalf of that brother , presented to the lodge a copy of the " Ahiman Rezon , " 1807 , and a vote of thanks was passed for this valuable gift , as also a gift from Bro . Whytehead of a Moira apron mounted for

framing . Bro . Cumberland , P . M ., expressed the pleasure he felt at once more meeting in lodge so many of his old friends in Freemasonry , and sa'd how glad he was to see the lodge making such good progress , working so well , aud acquiring such a valuable collection of Masonic books , engravings ,

and curiosities ; at the rate its collections were increasing it would soon be far ahead of any lodge in the North . Subsequent to the closing of the lodge , there was a right merry meeting in the smoke room , when the old familiar ring of Bro . Cumberland ' s songs once more enlivened the hearts of the Eboracums .

CATERHAM . —Caterham Lodge ( No . 2095 ) . — The annual installation meeting of this young but flourishing lodge , which owes its existence to that well known and worthy Mason , Bro . Hugh D . Sandeman , took place on Saturday , in the pretty Surrey valley that gives the lodge its name . Two brethren having been raised to the Third

Degree by the W . M ., Bro . W . Alfred S . Tomkins , the same brother ably installed Bro . George John Eady , M . D ., in the Master's chair , and the new W . M . then invested his officers as follows : Bros . j . E . Street , S . VV . ; F . A . Guimaraens , J . W . ; A . Lockie , S . D . ; C . VV . C . Webb , J . D . ; A . E . Tower , I . G . ; and J . Sandeman called attention to a beautiful altar cloth which adorned the pedestal upon which the tracing boards were placed , and which was worked by the lodge by the I . P . M ., bro .

lomkins , and presented to the lodge . Bro . Sandeman proposed a cordial vote of thanks to Bro . Tomkins , which was seconded by the W . M ., and carried by acclamation , a compliment which was suitably acknowledged by Bro . Tomkins . After the labours of the day , which were not concluded till nearly half-past seven , the brethren sat down to

banquet under the genial presidency of the W . M . "The yueen and the Craft" and the toast of " H . R . H . the Grand Master" were loyally honoured ; that of " ihe P . G . M . and the P . G . Officers , Present and Past , " was acknowledged by the D . P . G . M . of Surrey , who said he was proud to be present at so large and good althoug h young lodge .

In response to the toast of " The Prov . Grand Master , the D . Pcov . Grand Master , and the Grand Officers , Presentand Past , " Bro . Sanderson , as usual , made a humourous and characteristic speech , in the course of which he described the rise and progress of Caterham Lodge , and expressed a hope that he might soon see two relorms , one was that on installation days no other work should be undertaken , and

that they might on future occasions meet in a better and more cummouious hall . He went on to speak ot the generous hospitality that had marked bro . Tomkins ' s Mastership , and which had culminated in the beautiful altar cloth presented to the lodge that day . The W . M . then gave "The Health of the I . P . M . " in warm terms ot kindly approbation , and concluded by

handing to Bro . Tomkins a massive silver goblet , suitably engraved , and which he said would be overflowing with love and kindness towards the recipient . Bro . Tomkins acknowledged the kindness that had been shown him , and which touched him deeply , in concluding he gave "The Health of Bro . Eady , " who he felt sure would be an ornament to the Master's chair . Ihe W . M . suitably replied . He had a difficult task

before him in following two such Masters as Bro . Sandeman and Bro . Tomkins . He could say this , however , that ne would endeavour to make a good third . " The Visitors " was acknowledged by Bros . Webber and Cristall , and "The Officers of the Lodge" by Br ° - Street . " The Masonic Press " was responded to by the representative of the Freemason .
