GRAND MASTER briefly addressed the brethren as to the motive of the meeting , and after the reading of the warrant and the approval of ths ollicers named therein had been given , The Prov . G . Chap ., Bro . the Rev . J . A . LATHOM , delivered an oration . They were , he said , particularly reminded on occasions such as that tf the
far-reaching objects for which the Masonic art existed . They were assembled there to consecrate a new lodge and to witness the formation of another local agent for the promulgation of the noble principles of the Order . Even then , as they looked with hope and certainty to the vision of a successful life of the new lodge , they saw clearer those principles presented to them when they were taught their first lesson in Freemasonry . They then learned that Masonry was a beautiful system of morality veiled in
allegory . Masonry was formed on the noblest principles of brotherly love and truth . Those principles they found as they went further formed the true centre and basis upon which all human wisdom and strength of character were to be erected . Continuing , he said the three great tenets of their profession were the practice of brotherly love , relief , and truth , and in conclusion prayed that the Divine Master of the Grand Lodge above might always guide and direct them .
The ceremony was then proceeded with in accordance with ancient custom , the Prov . Grand Master constituting the lodge in due form .

That was due to some extent to the increase of the population , but to a larger extent to their having
at the head of the province a brother whose zeal for the Order and interest for its good conduct and government could not be equalled . He emphasised the Prov . Grand Master ' s constant advice to exercise the greatest caution in lhe selection of only suitable candidates , and that it was more necessary to have an increase in quality than in numbers .
Bro . J . C . VARI . EV proposed "The W . D . P . G . M . of East Lancashire , Bro . C . R . N . Beswicke-Royds , and the rest of the Prov . The W . M ., in responding , said his acceptance of the chair was conditional on the lodge being named after Bro . Hollingworth . Michael's Rise , and was an unqualified success . The brethren were invited to introduce ladies , and this they did , with the result that there was a large number of the wives , sisters , and lady friends of Masons present . The hall was very prettily and artistically decorated by Bros . J . H . Williams , H . B . Harvey , and C . H .
Ratsch , who also with Bro . W . Hogg lent various articles of vertu and bric-abrac , special furniture , shrubs , flowers , Ac . The brethren were all attired in Craft regalia , and thc light blue assimilating with the many tints of the ladies' dresses created a very pretty effect among the artistic , not to say picturesque surroundings . Bro . G . E . Bridge , the W . M . of the lodge , and Mrs . Bridge , received the company from seven to half-past , and a little later Bro . BRIDGE , addressing the
company , and more particularly the ladies , extended to all a hearty welcome . As far as the ladies were concerned he was exceptionally glad to see so many present , for it showed that they took some interest in the great Order to which their male relatives and friends belonged . They were entitled to thanks for the unselfishness they displayed in allowing their husbands and brothers to leave their homes to
attend lodge , and to carry out the important duties devolving upon them as Freemasons . Without for a moment disclosing any of the secrets of the Order he might say that its principles and tenets were such as to entitle it to the most profound respect from all right thinking persons , and was based , upon the highest laws of philanthropy and benevolence .
