The following officers were invested , with the

exception of the S . N . and the P . S ., who were unavoidably absent : Comps . Neville Green , P . Z ., S . E . ; J . Hodges , S . N . ; VV . Simpson , P . S . ; C . Stein , 1 st A . S . ; VV . VV . Lee , 2 nd A . S . ; VV . H . Lee , P . Z ., Treas . ; and J . J . Marsh , Janitor . The Audit Report was received , showing a very satisfactory balance in the" hands of the Treasurer , and the sum of £ 1 is . was voted to the Masonic Memorial Fund of Peterborough Cathedral . Other business was

transacted , and the chapter closed . After an excellent banquet the usual toast list received due attention . Comp . J . F . H . Woodward , P . G . S . B ., responding for " The Grand Officers , " said he could hardly claim to be a Grand Officer , having never been in Grand Office , but he felt just as much interest in the work as the other Grand

Officers . Their work was not only in their heads and hands , but in their hearts , and if that was right the other two would go right . He had the honour of visiting that chapter some four years ago , when he made a statement , which he repeated that evening , which had been much canvassed since . It was that a Royal Arch Mason could enter the most sacred place of a Hindoo temple without

fear , although the Hindoos knew nothing of Craft Masonry . He had digressed from the toast , but he thought he would repeat a statement made by him four years ago . Comp . T . Clark , I . P . Z ., said he would ask the companions to drink "Long Life and Prosperity to theM . E . Z . " They had all as brethren in the Craft been pleased to see Masters installed in lodges , but he had always thought it

was a double pleasure to see a companion installed in the chair of M . E . Z ., for it showed he must have exerted himself in the former Degree to have been considered sufficiently competent to support the chair of First Principal . Therefore , as Comp . Berry had so well discharged his duty in the Craft , they would be pleased to drink his health as M . E . Z . of their chapter .

Comp . A . Berry , M . E . Z ., having returned thanks , said he did not think the kindly remarks of the I . P . Z , with regard to himself had been all deserved . Since he had been in the chapter he had not had so many opportunities of displaying the knowledge he possessed as he could have wished , and only as H . did he have the opportunity of

carrying the duties out fully . He hoped to be able tocarry out his duties to the satisfaction of himself and the chapter . He should endeavour to perfect himself before the next meeting , and thus gain their approbation . He again thanked them , and hoped to be able to give them satisfaction in the future .

In giving "The Past Principals , " the M . E . Z . said he would especially allude to the I . P . Z ., Comp . T . Clark , who had performed his duties very satisfactorily , and as an evidence of that the companions had voted him a jewel , which he had much pleasure in placing upon his breast . He trusted Comp . Clark might always remember kindly the pleasant time he had passed in the chapter . With regard

to the other P . Z . ' s , they had all done good service , and the companions were therefore indebted to them . He might particularly allude to Comp . W . H . Lee , who was the father of the chapter , as well as of the lodge , and who was a necessity , because whenever they had any difficulty they had only to apply to him , and he came to their assistance . Comps . Green , P . Z ., A . Clark , and Funstan , P . Z ., also did their

best for the welfare of the chapter . Comp . T . Clark , I . P . Z ., returned thanks for the kind expressions of the M . E . Z ., and for the jewel , which he should prize and wear with pleasure , as it would remind him of the happy evenings he had spent in the chapter since his exaltation . He had no regret in leaving the chair , for he felt sure in resigning it to the present M . E . Z . and to Comp .

Hoit , who would follow , that the chapter would be well represented . The meetings of the chapter were always looked forward to with great pleasure , and he trusted to continue to enjoy that pleasure for many years to come . Comp . Adolphus Clark , P . Z ., also replied , after which " The Visitors " was given in cordial terms by the M . E . Z ., who said it was important to the welfare of the chapter that there should be visitors .

Comp . M . Christian , P . Z . S 60 , returned thanks for the kindly proposition and reception of the toast , and expressed his pleasure at the excellent work he had seen . He took that opportunity of thanking Comp . VV . H . Lee , P . Z ., for the many services he had rendered to the chapter . " The Treasurer and Scribe E . " was next given , in response to which Comp . Lee , P . Z ., Treas ., repeated what he

had said on so many previous occasions , that so long as he was connected with the chapter he would endeavour to promote its best interests . He would take care of the funds , and see that the chapter did not get into debt . Comp . J . H . Hoit , H ., replying for "The H . and J ., " said it had been a red-letter day for him , and he looked forward to the time when he should be in the First Principal's chair .

" The Officers " and the Janitor ' s toast brought a very pleasant evening to a close .

P . G . S . B . ; M . Christian , P . Z . S 6 o ; J . A . Penfold , P . Z . 217 ; and J . W . Long , Z . 22 . The convocation was opened , and the minutes confirmed . The following companions were then installed into their respective chairs by Bro . W . H . Lee , P . Z ., Treas ., viz Comps . A . Berry , M . E . Z . ; J . H . Hoit , H . ; and VV . Beasley , J .
