Royal Naval Preceptory ( No . 2 ) . —The regular meeting of this ancient preceptory and priory was held at the Phcenix Lodge Room , on Saturday , the 14 th instant , under the presidency of Sir Knight Francis Newman , Past Provincial Chancellor , Past E . Preceptor , in the absence of the E . P ., Sir Knig ht Wm . Geo . P . Gilbert .

The minutes of the last regular meeting were read and confirmed . A ballot was then taken for Comps . A . N . Yatman Howell , iS ° , and William Arthur Campbell , of 2 $ j , which proved unanimous in their favour . The candidates were thereupon installed as Knights Templar in a most impressive manner by the presiding Preceptor . A Committee , consisting of all P . E . P . ' s of and in the preceptory , was appointed to make all necessary arrangements for the celebration of

the centenary of the preceptory , which was constituted on the nth March , 1791 , and has regularly worked ever since within the walls of the old town of Portsmouth . The preceptory having been closed , the priory was opened and the newly-installed sir knig hts were advanced to the Degree of Knight of Malta , the address being given by the E . P ., Sir Knight F . Newman . The priory was then closed .

Denton , Kingsbridge , Antigua , Ryde , Plymouth , Cambridge , Liverpool , Bromley , Haslingden , Calcutta , Aston , Glossop , Aberystwith , and Sidmouth . Four of these cases were deferred and two dismissed . The remainder were relieved with a total of £ 600 . On

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES IN THE LEINSTER HALL . The annual fete of the Masonic Female Orphan Schools , as embodied in the presentation of prizes to the pupils in that noble establishment , took place on the 4 th inst . in the Leinster Hall , Hawkins-street , and ,

without fear of contradiction , it may be asserted that the interior of that edifice never before presented such an impressive and brilliant appearance , and seldom did the members of the great Masonic Craft turn out in greater force . The members of the gentler sex also appeared in great numbers , and by their presence gave

an air of grace and tastefulness to the surroundings . But for the present to leave aside the ladies and gentlemen attending as visitors , and to deal with the socalled Charities—for as the Deputy Grand Master said in the course of his speech the children were not taught that they were being brought up in a spirit of charity , but in a spirit of brotherly love—nothing could more

effectively impress the non-Masonic onlooker on the subject of true Masonry than the appearance of the children , girls and boys , who are under the care of the Craft in the orphanages . Every child seemed happy , and , needless to remark , they bore in their appearance full evidence that they were well cared for .

The doors of the building were opened at 7 o clock , and whilst the visitors were assembling selections of music were performed by the band of the Gloucester Regiment and the Seaforth Highlanders . Shortly before 8 o ' clock a procession was formed and entered the hall . On reaching the platform the

brethren filed off and occupied the positions allotted to them , according to the position of precedence which their lodges held . Immediately upon the Deputy Grand Master , Bro . R . W . Shekleton , Q . C ., taking his seat , the pupils entered , those from the Boys' School leading , they being accompanied by their Masters .

The children from the Girls' School followed , and having taken up the positions allotted to them on the platform , the Deputy Grand Master was saluted , as the representative of the Grand Master , in accordance with ancient Masonic usage . The distribution having concluded ,

The DEPUTY GRAND MASTER said some of their prizes mi g ht be considered personally to be very small , but their g irls were economical , and much preferred having the prize money to which they were entitled placed to their credit in the savings bank , and the result was that some of them had as much as £ iy

or ; £ i 8 to their credit there , and one girl , who was about leaving the School , had ^ 21 . Bro . GRAVES EVES moved a vote of thanks to Lady Muskerry lor having presented the prizes . The Committee of the Schools , he said , were greatly indebted to Lady Muskerry for her hearty kindness , and the interest

which she took in their Institution , and over and beyond that Lord and Lady Muskerry had proved their appreciation of the training of the orphan children by engaging a former pupil at the Masonic School to train and educate their own daughter . Lord and Lady Muskerry

had won the hearts of everyone connected with the Schools by their kind and genial manner , and there were no Masons and no children in that room who did not appreciate their acts of true kindness . Bro . Colonel P . SAUNDERS , Prov . G . M . Wicklowand Wexford , seconded the resolution , which was adopted

with acclamation . Lord MUSKERRY briefl y returned thanks on behalf of Lady Muskerry . The DEPUTY GRAND MASTER mentioned that that

night was devoted to the distribution of the prizes to the girls . In a few days , hoivever , they hoped to have a gathering for the boys at Clonskeagh , when he hoped many of those now attending would be present . The girls then went through a series of calisthenic and drill exercises , under the direction of Miss Triggs

I he exhibition was of a most p leasing character , and in the drill movements the pupils showed a precision which could hardly be equalled by any of the trained men in her Majesty ' s service . At the close of the calisthenic exercises " God Save the Queen" was sung by the children , who then started

for home , the number of girls out being 70 and that of boys 60 . The DEPUTY GRAND MASTER , on behalf of the Governors of the School , expressed the thanks of the body to Miss Triggs for the efficient manner in which she had drilled the children , and to Mrs . Neale , the

Head Mistress , for the manner in which she looked after their welfare . He thought their assembly that night proved that Freemasons were not simply a gourmandising body , as was generally supposed , but that they stood together for Charitable work , and their children in the Schools were always taught that they were not

the objects of chanty , but the objects of the kindliness of brotherhood . He would ask all those who had not seen their Schools to visit them any Wednesday at halfpast 12 o ' clock ; but he could guarantee that if a visit was paid on any other day everything would be found as well as on the day upon which visitors were expected .

This terminated the proceedings so far as the distribution was concerned , but dancing was engaged in in the annexe and the large hall , the music being supplied by the bands of the Seaforth and the Glo ' ster Regiments . Dancing was continued till about midni ght , when the company separated after spending a most
