Thousands of spectators witnessed the procession , and among these were the King and Royal Family , as well as the Lord Mayor of London .

THE BRITISH ARCHAEOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION- . —In connection with the annual session of this association , now being held at Devizes , the inaugural address has been delivered by Ear ! Nelson , who dwelt on the desirableness of paying greater attention to the preservation of ancient monuments and time-honoured relics of bygone ages . A number of places of historical interest in the neighbourhood have already been visited , including the supposed

site of the Battle of Ethandun , with which the movements of King Alfred were so intimately connected , and the Westbury White Horse , a gigantic figure in chalk , on the side of the hill outside the town of Westbury . For the better and more costly kind of Masonic Jewels a great saving can be made by getting them direct from the manufactory . Messrs . J . R . Williams and Son made the most costly badge in the kingdom for the Alayor of

Liverpool , and many others , and many of thc sheriffs ' badges and chains . The firm are now supplying the nobility and gentry ( direct ) at the same p rices as they have for forty years served the best houses in London and the country , and co-operative stores . Alessrs . J . R . Williams and Son have always been celebrated for specially fine diamond work and choice gem rings . The two

advantages thus offered to the public are far superior quality and an immense saving in price . Manufactory and warehouse , 10 S , Hatton-garden , E . C . The usual saving is 20 to Go per cent . Bridesmaids' lockets and all kinds of jewellery for wedding presents . Dealers in diamonds , pearls , and coloured gems , loose or mounted . APPROACHING ROYAL VISIT & MASONIC BANQUET AT THE MANSION HOUSE .

We have much pleasure in stating that the Grand Master , H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , has accepted an invitation to a Masonic banquet at the Alansion House in October next . The Lord Alayor , as Junior Grand Warden and Worshipful Master of No . 1 Lodge , will preside , and will be supported by the leading

members of the Craft . The last gathering of the kind was more than thirty years ago . It was in the mayoralty of the late Alderman Farncomb , in 1849 . This gentleman on the occasion entertained nearly 300 brethren in the Egyptian Hall , and amongst those present was the Lord Mayor ' s nephew , Mr . Alderman Stone , who was subsequently made Junior Grand Warden of England by the Prince of Wales on the accession of His Royal Highness to the Grand Mastership .

Once A Mason, Always A Mason.

ONCE A MASON , ALWAYS A MASON .

How often do we hear men who call themselves Alasons speak about the maxim " Once a Mason always a Mason , " and assert that it is " altogether wrong for any body of men , merely because they are chosen to be members of a Grand Lodge , to pass a law which shall upset a doctrine which " they claim "has existed from time immemorial . " The men who talk the loudest about the maxim are generall

y those who do very little for the good of Masonry ' either by paying dues , attending lodge , or performing anv Masonic duty except it be to wear a glaring pin on the lapel of the vest in plain view of everybody , to whom they seem to say : "Look at mc , 1 am a Alason , " and " once a Mason , always a Mason . " But do these persons show to the outside world that they are Masons by practising the exemplary conduct which thev

are taught is the rule and guide of Alasonry ? Do they , when claiming that " once a Alason always a Mason , " show by word , action , deportment , and general conduct that they have ever been Alasons , and are worthy of being called Masons ? It matters not whether they have taken ' a hundred Degrees or only just been initiated into the mysteries , they are not Alasons unless they act up to the Alasonic principles . Consequently if they are not Alasons their own

argument condemns them ; for as " once a Mason always a Mason , " so he that has never been a Alason can not be one now . So many things are done under the cloak of Alasonry that many feel afraid when a stranger approaches them and extends the right hand of friendshi p and brotherly love . Were those who have " 01 . ee been made Alasons" only willing to remain "always Alasons , " thc greeting of thc stranger would he even more welcome than that of one who

is met with every day . A man who proclaims loudl y in a public bar room , while under thc influence of intoxicating beverages , that he is a Alason , is not to be believed , and good Alasons should avoid him as they would a pestilence , no matter how much the intoxicated man may claim that " once a Alason , always a Alason . " If a man

accompanies his claim to Alasonry with a profane oath , lie is not to be believed , as all true Afasons know that he does not walk or act as a Alason should . It is not the knowled ge of the mysteries that makes the Alason , it is the conduct and practice in life ' s duties . The true Alason is always a Alason , but the false one never . —A . Y .
