BRO . THEODORE ROOSEVELT , the new President of the United States , was initiated , passed , and raised in the Matinnecock Lodge , Oyster Bay , Lone Island , where he resides . The members of this lodge are principally fishermen and gardeners , who had known Bro . Roosevelt since he was a boy . The room was very small , holding only about 300 persons , but on that n ght over 700 squeezed in , and barely left room for the woiking of the ceremony . For a week pievious to the initiation , says the Daily Express , humorous cartoons had appeared in certain New York papers depicting Vice-President Roosevelt tiding a goat , and going through various undignified evolutions generally connected with a circus .

The lodge was then opened in the Third Degree , resumed in the Second Degree , and then in the First Degree , when Bro . Edwards delivered the addresses . After resuming in the Second , the lodge was closed in that Degree .

The Strand Lodge of Instruction meets every Tuesday evening at the Salisbury , 91 and 92 , Stiand , from seven till nine p . m ., and Master Masons aie cordially invited to attend .

Hawley , at the request of the acting M . E . Z ., assumed the chair as Installing Officer , and in a most impressive and efficient manner installed Com ? . McFaden into Ihe chair of M . E . Z . ; Comp . G . Rennard into that of H . ; and Comp . J . Willbourn as

The companions afterwards adjourned to the Station Hotel , where an excellent banquet was provided by Miss Little , the manageress . Comp . McFaden occupied the chair , and gave the usual loyal and Masonic toasts . Comp . Rennard replied for "The P . G . Chapter . " Comp . Clarke gave "The Three Princioals , " all of whom replied . Comp . Onslow Pierce proposed "The Visitors , " giving them a kindly welcome .

Comp . Lane replied in a very happy manner . Comps . Godfrey , Hunter and Aves responded for "The Officers . " A most enjoyable evening was spent , songs and recitations being given by Comps , Willbourn , Lane , Sivers , and others . Bro . A . C . Edwards , Mus . Bac , F . R . C O ., accompanied the songs , and also contributed a couple of pianoforte solos in a most brilliant manner , fjr which he was warmly thanked .

BRO . LIEUT .-COLONEL GEORGE LAMBERT , V . D . We regret to announce the death of Bro . George Lambert , which melan . choly event took place at his residence in Coventry-street , Haymarket , on the 12 th instant . Our brother was born in 1823 , and after spending his early days in Hamburg , entered the old-established firm of Lambert and Rawlings , goldsmiths , with which , throughout sundry changes of nomenclature , he continued to be associated until his decease . Bro . Lambert was initiated in the Percy Lodge , No ,

19 8 ( the chair of which he afterwards filled on numerous occasions ) in 1844 . The Royal Arch he joined through the portals of the Cyrus Chapter , No . 21 , and was advanced to the Mark Degree in the Bon Accord Lodge . In both these bodies he passed the chair . Ot the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite he was also a member , and had attained the 33 rd and last Degree . The office of Grand Sword Bearer In the Grand Lodge was conferred upon him in 1 S 01 , and that of Grand Director of Ceremonies in the Grand Chipter , 1 SS 3 . He was also a Past

Prov . G . Warden of Hertfordshire , Past S . G . Deacon of the Mark Grand Lodge , and a Past Grand Officer of the Great Priory of the Order of the Temple . To the sacred cause of Charity he was a liberal benefactor , and had served many Stewardships on behalf of the three Masonic Institutions in addition to qualifying as a Patron of them all . Bro , Lambert was a Past Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths' Company , twice Mister of the Tinplatc Workers and Pattern-Makers , and a Liveryman of the florners' Glov . 'rs ' , Gold

and Silver Wyre Drawers ' , and Gardeners' Companies . He also served as President of the Metropolitan Friendly Societies' Asylum , Bill ' s Pond , and wis one of the foremost supporters of the French Huguenot Hospital , in Victoria Park . In the volunteer service he was long associated with th ; Queen ' s Westminsters , and had retired from that corps with the Volunteer decoration and the

rank of Lieutenant-Colonel . lie was a Fellow of the Society of Anti quaries , and the author of many interesting essays on arch . uological subjects . The remains of our lamented brother ( who was in his 7 8 th year ) were interred in the family grave , at Kensal Green , on Tuesday , the 17 th inst ., the following , among others , being present : Bros .
