AYR . —Irvine Harbour Lodge ( No . 6 7 6 ) . —The annual festival of this lodge was held on Friday evening , the Cth inst . The members assembled at their lodge-room in Irvine Coffee House , and , headed by the Irvine Rifle Band , marched to the Town Hall , where the lodge was opened in the First Degree . The R . W . M ., Bro . Alex . Hamilton , presided , and he was supported by Bros . Wm . Stevenson , D . M . ; lames Gillies , S . M . ; VV . Owen ,

S . W . ; W . J . Crawford , J . VV . ; J . B . Craig , acting Chap . ; W . G . Higgins , Sec . ; and Robert Laird , Treas . Deputations were received from Mother Lodge , No . o , Kilwinning , headed by Bro . Scott , D . M . ; Irvine St . Andrew , i \ o . 149 , H . Macgregor Higher , R . W . M . ; Stevenston Thi-tie and Rose , No . 1 G 9 , O . Sinclair , R . W . M . ; and Dreghorn St . Matthew's , No . 5 69 , John Fulton , D . M . Apologies were intimated from St . Marnock , Kilmarnock ,

and Ardrossan Neptune , Kilwinning . After the usual toasts and the healths of the visiting brethren had been disposed of Bro . Scott , of Mother Kilwinning , gave " Continued Prosperity to the Irvine Harbour Lodge , No . 67 G , " and in doing so expressed the pleasure that it gave hirn to see Freemasonry increase as it did in Irvine with two lodges , and said that thc number of entrants during the past year , though satisfactory ,

would have been much larger but for the depression that still existed ; and said that Freemasonry ought not to be otherwise than acceptable to the public , if one of the most recently published German comments were only considered : ' * Such a universal association is essentially necessary . All others , depending upon similarity of calling , upon political opinions or religious creeds , suffer more or less from exclusiveness . This

union of unions , which joins all good men into one family , in which the principle of equality , together with brotherly love—that is , love of the human race—is the predominant one , and is the end and aim of all its moral influence upon others—this is Freemasonry . " The brethren attended the annual sermon in Fullarton Church , when Bro . the Rev . J . T . Paton , Chaplain of the lodge , preached an impressive sermon from Daniel iii . 25 ,

at the close of which he said : To you , my brethren , 1 now turn and say one word . It is with much pleasure that I again welcome you within these sacred walls . With the utmost "heartiness I say , "peace be with you , and prosperity attend you . " The subject which I have brought before you in the discourse to which you have listened is one with which you must be familiar . You never enter your lodge , but the emblem of the all-seeing God reminds

you that you are always under His scrutiny , that He dwells with men , takes an interest in their work , and helps them in their trials . I trust , my brethren , that you act in conformity to this teaching . Your every thought and act should be influenced by his presence . If that is not so you cannot be a true Mason . Let me entreat you to think more of this , and try to recognise the presence of God with you wherever you go . When you look around you , and see a

world of exquisite beauty , see also the marks of God ' swisdom and love . In the sunshine and the shower ; in the melodious warbling of the birds ; in thc rivulet which dances musically over thc rounded stones ; in all things recognise the hand of the Great Architect of the Universe , and this will make them ali a blessing to vou . View also the circumstances of your lot in life as His wise dispensations , and you will feel that He will make all things to work together for your good . The great God whom you

serve does not lead you by a rugged way because He takes pleasure in your sorrows , but because He desires to make you strong , and to fit you for the joys cf heaven . He himself , through much tribulation , opened the kingdom of heaven . Never faint , then , because of the toilsomeness of the way . Believe that in all things your God is with you , and all will be well . Thus shall you prosper and grow in holiness , and ultimately be fitted for the Lodge above , in which the refreshment of the presence of God shall be with you for ever and ever . Amen .

New Masonic Hall At Holywood, Ireland.

NEW MASONIC HALL AT HOLYWOOD , IRELAND .

Until lately the position of the brethren connected with the Victoria Lodge , No . 254 , in Holywood , was not of an imspiriting character , as the membership was extremely small ; ane , while there were many connected with the main institution resident in the town , they were not affiliated

with the Holywood body , besides . which , the local brethren had no suitable building in which to transact their ordinary or special business , and , as a consequence , that interest which it was desired to manifest by the local body in furthering the objects of the institution in the neighbourhood was allowed to flag . For the past few years , however , there has been an improved tendency exhibited , the

membership has been at least quadrupled , and very considerable energy has been displayed in trying to find suitable lodge and other accommodation . The Holywood brethren have exercised a wise discretion in the course they have pursued in providing themselves with proper hall accommodation , which was not to trespass too largely on the generosity of their friends , and at the same time to avoid plunging

themselves into debt ; and both of these extremes have been largely avoided by the discreet course pursued by the Building Committee . Finding that they could acquire the build- ' ing in Church View , which had formerly been used as a national schoolhouse , on moderate terms , the Committee came to an arrangement with the landlord , and secured a lease of the premises for a period of twenty-one years . The situation of the building is extremely good , being in a

comparatively open space , and commanding a fine view of the surrounding hill scenery , and possesses a frontage of some So feet to Church View . 'This has been most advantageously arranged and altered to meet the wants of the brethren , the work being successfully earned out by Bro . William Jamieson , some six months ago . The entire building has been completely painted and decorated , and the opening ceremony took place on Monday , the 16 th inst .

M . Apologies were intimated from St . and Ardrossan Neptune , Kilwinning .
