and I hope when my little son arrives at man ' s estate he will become a Freemason and a member of this lodge , and on my dying bed I may hand to him these jewels as pure and unsullied as I received the one from my late dear father . I must not forget to thank the VV . M . for the good feelings which prompted him to propose that I should be thus honoured , nor must 1 omit to thank the subscribers for the

liberal manner in which they responded to his proposition . In conclusion , I trust we may live in unanimity and concord to our last day . Bro . Quick , P . M ., with the permission of the W . M ., read a "" very interesting " communique" from Bro . Hughan , showing the history in brief of the Guernsey Lodges , and which we hope to have space to insert later on .

The other business of the lodge having been disposed of , and the question as to the purchase of a harmonium having been relegated to the next regular meeting , the lodge was duly closed and the brethren retired for refreshment . The W . M . presided as usual , and gave the loyal and Masonic toasts , which were heartily responded to . By command of the VV . M ., Bro . Emra Holmes proposed

"The Visitors , " and said how delighted the Mariners Lodge was at all times to welcome visiting brethren , either belonging to the neighbouring lodges or when they hailed from distant countries , and he thought it would be a matter of great interest to the brethren if the visitors would give them some information as to the progress of Masonry in their respective localities . Bro . Garland , from New York , testified to the great

value of Masonry to men travelling to the United States , and strongly recommended every one to be initiated who proposed to go there , as it was an introduction at once . Bro . Agnew , from Manitoba , spoke in like terms , and enlarged on the hospitality shown to strangers who were Masons in his own province . Bro . Wilkins complimented the VV . M . on the working of the lodge , and several brethren contributed to the harmony of the evening .

great pleasure it had afforded himself and his brother visitors at having been present during the ceremonies that evening , and he paid a very high compliment to Bro . Mark Rooke , P . M ., P . P . G . S . D ., on the masterly manner in which he had performed the ceremony of the Third Degree ; to Bro . Jos . Todd , P . M ., P . P . G . R ., on the explanation of

the tools , & c . ; and to the officers generally on the efficient manner in which they performed their respective duties . These expressions were endorsed by several other visiting brethren . Bro . Jos . Todd , P . M ., Treasurer , was elected a representative of the lodge on the Charities Association for North and East Yorkshire .

GUERNSEY . —Loyalty Lodge ( No . 243 ) . —The last regular meeting of this lodge , held in the Masonic Temple , was the occasion for a very gratifying presentation being made to Bro . Lindsay , the I . P . M ., of a Past Master ' s jewel , iS-carat gold , which had been subscribed for by the voluntary contributions of the members of the lodge as a token of the esteem and regard which they entertained for Bro * Lindsay during two successive years of office as W . M .

The senior P . M ., Bro . Hamley , was to have presented the jewel , but , owing to his absence from the island on that occasion , Bro . Bohn , the VV . M ., undertook the pleasing duty . Bro . Lindsay , in a suitable reply acknowledging the gift , thanked the brethren for their substantial appreciation of his efforts to carry out the various duties devolving upon him , and assured them that he would ever bear in mind the kindness and support which he had received at their hands .

The lodge being opened in due form , the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . Mr . Richard Guest , who was elected on last lodge night , was then duly initiated into Freemasonry by the VV . M ., the charge and explanation of the tracing board of the First Degree being given by the Senior and Junior Wardens respectively , and the brethren present were much gratified by the admirable

manner in which the whole was performed . Two candidates , who were proposed at previous meeting , were then submitted to the ballot and duly elected ; but , as both were unavoidably absent , their initiation was deferred till next lodge night . The remaining and more private business being next disposed of , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to banquet .

YARMOUTH . —United Friends Lodge ( No . ; , 13 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held on Tuesday , the ioth inst ., at the Assembly-rooms , when Bro .

PORTSMOUTH . —United Brothers Lodge ( No . 1069 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , Highbury-street , on Friday evening , the Gth inst ., when Bro . W . T . Dupree was installed as the W . M . for the ensuing year . The ceremony was ably performed by the retiring w . M ., Bro . Henry Cook , who was supported by a verv numerous Board of Installed Masters ,

READING . —Greyfriars Lodge ( No . 1101 ) . — On Wednesday , the nth inst ., a regular meeting of this lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , when Bro . Richard Carless Prickett was installed as W . M . for the coming year . There was a large attendance of distinguished brethren from London and the province , Bro . the Right Hon . J . Shaw-Lefevre being amongst the number . The officers for the ensuing twelve months were appointed as follows :

' 536 ) . —The attendance at the opening since the installation of the above lodge , which has justly heen described as " the strongest in the Province of Kent , " and which took place on Friday , the 13 th inst ., at the Lord Raglan Assembly Rooms , Burrage-road , Bro . and I hope when my little son arrives at man ' s estate he will become a Freemason and a member of this lodge , and on my dying bed I may hand to him these jewels as pure and unsullied as I received the one from my late dear father . I must not forget to thank the VV . M . for the good feelings which prompted him to propose that I should be thus honoured , nor must 1 omit to thank the subscribers for the

liberal manner in which they responded to his proposition . In conclusion , I trust we may live in unanimity and concord to our last day . Bro . Quick , P . M ., with the permission of the W . M ., read a "" very interesting " communique" from Bro . Hughan , showing the history in brief of the Guernsey Lodges , and which we hope to have space to insert later on .

The other business of the lodge having been disposed of , and the question as to the purchase of a harmonium having been relegated to the next regular meeting , the lodge was duly closed and the brethren retired for refreshment . The W . M . presided as usual , and gave the loyal and Masonic toasts , which were heartily responded to . By command of the VV . M ., Bro . Emra Holmes proposed

"The Visitors , " and said how delighted the Mariners Lodge was at all times to welcome visiting brethren , either belonging to the neighbouring lodges or when they hailed from distant countries , and he thought it would be a matter of great interest to the brethren if the visitors would give them some information as to the progress of Masonry in their respective localities . Bro . Garland , from New York , testified to the great

value of Masonry to men travelling to the United States , and strongly recommended every one to be initiated who proposed to go there , as it was an introduction at once . Bro . Agnew , from Manitoba , spoke in like terms , and enlarged on the hospitality shown to strangers who were Masons in his own province . Bro . Wilkins complimented the VV . M . on the working of the lodge , and several brethren contributed to the harmony of the evening .

GUERNSEY . —Loyalty Lodge ( No . 243 ) . —The last regular meeting of this lodge , held in the Masonic Temple , was the occasion for a very gratifying presentation being made to Bro . Lindsay , the I . P . M ., of a Past Master ' s jewel , iS-carat gold , which had been subscribed for by the voluntary contributions of the members of the lodge as a token of the esteem and regard which they entertained for Bro * Lindsay during two successive years of office as W . M .

The senior P . M ., Bro . Hamley , was to have presented the jewel , but , owing to his absence from the island on that occasion , Bro . Bohn , the VV . M ., undertook the pleasing duty . Bro . Lindsay , in a suitable reply acknowledging the gift , thanked the brethren for their substantial appreciation of his efforts to carry out the various duties devolving upon him , and assured them that he would ever bear in mind the kindness and support which he had received at their hands .

The lodge being opened in due form , the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . Mr . Richard Guest , who was elected on last lodge night , was then duly initiated into Freemasonry by the VV . M ., the charge and explanation of the tracing board of the First Degree being given by the Senior and Junior Wardens respectively , and the brethren present were much gratified by the admirable

manner in which the whole was performed . Two candidates , who were proposed at previous meeting , were then submitted to the ballot and duly elected ; but , as both were unavoidably absent , their initiation was deferred till next lodge night . The remaining and more private business being next disposed of , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to banquet .
