Provincial Grand Lodge Of Leicestershire And Rutland.
PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF LEICESTERSHIRE AND RUTLAND .
The annual communication of the above Provincial Grand Lodge was l . eld in the Colles Hall , Melton Mowbray , on Thursday , the 5 th instant , under the bfnner of the Rutland Lodge , No . 1130 . The Prov . Grand Master , Ihe Earl Ferrers , was . unfortunately , unable to bs present , and Bro . S . S . Partridge , P . A . G . D . C , D . P . G . M ., presided . Each of the 15 lodges in the province was well represented , and Bro . J . Terry , P . G . S . B ., Sec . R . M . B . L , was also present .
' [ he precis ol lodge returns , submilted by the Prov . Grand Registrar , showed that 54 new members had joined , and 43 had withdrawn during the ) car ; ihe total number of members being 820 as compared with 809 in the
previous year . Theiericrt of the Provincial Charity Committee , after congratulating Bro . P .. Ii . Slat key , the Prov . Charily Steward , on the amount he had obtained for the Boys' School , viz ., . £ 603 15 s ., recommended that Wo . H . T . Grace , P . P . G . Std . Br ., be appointed Charity Steward for the ensuing
year . This rccommendalion was subsequently confirmed , and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution was selected as the Charity for the year , the claims of which were very forcibly urged upon the attention of the brethren by Bro . J AMES TERRY , the Secretary . The report on the Kelly Memorial Fund appealed very strongly for increased support , not more than ^ 54 Ss . 3 d . had been contributed during
the j ear , and it was lelt that the duty of supporting this local Benevolent Fund should be more fully recognised . In particular , it was suggested that the several lodges in the province thould make annual contributions from their funds ; up to the present only two lodges have been doing this . The capital account shows an investment of ^ io 3 and a credit balan ce of £ 27 3 s ,, the relief account amounts to _ £ S . i cs . id .
Before investing the new Prov . Officers , Bro . S . S . PARTRIIHIE , after expressing his sincere regret at the enforced absence of the Prov . G . Master , referred , in a spirit of loyalty and duty , to the change which had occurred in the head of the Craft . The King , after a long , happy , and most successful rule , had retired , and the Duke cf Connaught had been unanimously elected to take his place . He sincerely hoped that the Duke would be spared for many years as M . W . G . M ., and that similar success would
attend the Craft to that which had obtained during the presidency of the King . Coming to the progress of Masonry in the province , he felt satisfied that the gradual increase in numbers was evidence that due regard was being paid to Ihe care which ought at all times to be exercised so as to prevent the admission of any but really suitable candidates ; and he referred wiih esptcial pleasure to the formation of the East Goscote Lodge at Syston , No . 2865 , which , he believed , would have ample scope to develop n , that district , and of ihe success of which he had no doubt .
Bro . F . Amatt , P . M . 1007 , P . P . S . G . D ., was invested as P . P . S . G . W ., pursuant to special authority in commemoration of the installation of the M . W . G . M .

The annual meeting of the above Provincial Grand Lodge was held at the Masonic Temple , St . HelHers , lersey , on Friday , the 6 th instant , under the presidency of the Prov . Grand Master , Bro . The seven lodges in the province all duly answered to the roll call , while as regards such ot the Prov . The Accounts showed a favourable bahnce of £ : q 123 . The P . G . M ., in his address to the brethren , remarked tint though the past year had been an exceedingly important one for Freemasonry in
general owing to the change of our ruler , it had been singularly devoid of events of purely local interest . For so small a province and isUnd , no very great or startling advance could be expected annually , but he quoted from the statistics compiled from the annu ii returns of the various lodges , and these proved that the level of past years had been well maintained , indeed ,
there had been a slight numerical increase . At the same time , he desired to point out lo lodge Secretaries that too large a proportion of brethren were returned to Prov .
