NORTH WALSHAM . —Unanimity Lodge ( No . 102 ) . —The annual banquet and meeting of this lodge yvas held on Monday , Jan . 10 , at the lodge house , King ' s Arms Hotel , North Walsham , Norfolk . There yvas a good attendance of the brethren and several visitors , including the Grand Master of the Province , Lieut . Col . the Hon . F . Walpole , M . P . ; the P . G . S . W ., Bro . Lieut . Col . H .

L'Estrancc ; the P . G . Sec , Bro . H . Baryvell . At this meeting the W . M . elect , Bro . the Rig ht Hon . Lord Suffield , should have been installed , but as his lordship is noyv in India yvith the Grand Master , H . R . H . thc Prince of Wales , that ceremony is postponed until his return . The retiring W . M ., Bro . Lieut . Col .. ) . Duff , P . G . J . W ., yvill continue to hold thc office until his lordship ' s return . The business of thc

lodge consisted of tyvo initiations , and this ceremony having been ably and accurately performed by the W . M ., the brethren proceeded to the banqueting-room . Here a magnificent repast ayvaited them , the cuisine being in charge of Bro . Chapman , yvho performed his duties so well as to leave nothing to be desired . After dinner thc W . M . proposed the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , and these yvere , of

course , heartily received . The toast of " The G . M . of thc Province" yvas drunk with Masonic honours . The Provincial Grand Master , in responding , said that as this yvas the first lodge he had visited since his installation , he must say that yvhich he had unfortunately forgotton to say on the occasion of his being placed in that proud position . He omitted altogether to refer to the great loss sustained

by Freemasonry in Norfolk by the death ofthe late P . G . M ., Bro . Benjamin Bond Cabbell . The late P . G . M . yvas ever distinguished by a desire ' to do ' cyerything in his poyyer to promote Freemasonry . He was ever foremost in subscribing to the different Masonic charities , and he yvas always ready to lend a helping hand to everything that tended to the interest of thc Craft . In him thc province had lost one

who had endeared himself to all the brethren , and that loss they would never icease to deplore . *** In conclusion , the P . G . M . said he should do his best to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor , and should consider himself yvell reyvarded for his efforts if he succeeded in winning- for himself but a small part of thc esteem in yvhich their late P . G . M . had been held . The next toast yvas given by the

S . W ., Bro . Cubitt , and yvas that of " The W . M . of the Lodge "—a toast that yvas also received yvith full Masonic honours . The W . M ., in responding , thanked the brethren for the kind and courteous reception they had given him , aud promised to continue his efforts to deserve their approbation and esteem . This yvas one of the most , successful meetings this lodge has ever held .

Grand Master , H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , nicely framed , together yvith a beautiful and appropriate address . Thc R . W . Prov . G . Master most feelingly and suitably acknowledged the compliment , expressing the great pleasure it

gave him to receive so unexpected a mark of the esteem of thc brethren . A vote of thanks to W . Bro . H . Woodgates for his kindness and ability in presiding at the organ during the ceremonies of thc lodge having been unanimously passed and acknowledged , the lodge was closed . the installation , a handsome Masonic jeyvel yvas presented by the lodge to Past Master G . T . Prior , in acknoyvledgment of his past services . At thc conclusion of the business an elegant banquet was served , thc arrangements for yvhich yvere excellently carried out by the Stewards , and to yvhich about 40 sat doyvn . The newly-elected Worshipful Master presided , and proposed the usual loyal

and Masonic toasts in particularly felicitous and graceful terms . Many excellent songs yvere contributed , and the proceedings yvere of a very festive and enjoyable character . During the evening much enthusiasm yvas excited by the announcement , by thc Worshipful Master of the Apollo , that a telegram hid been received from India during thc past feyv days from the Prince of Wales , in yvhich

His Royal Highness appointed Prince Leopold to the oflice of Provincial Grand Master of Oxfordshire . The latter was last term elected to succeed Bro . Pickard as Worshipful Master ot the Apollo on the expiration of the present term of office , and his selection to preside over this province , yvhilst it yvill be appreciated as a high honour by Masons throughout the county , yvill be received yvith great

satisfaction by the Craft generally . Thc installation of His Royal Highness yvill probably take place on thc 22 nd of February . BATH . —Lodge of Honour ( No . 379 ) . —At thc regular meeting held at thc Masonic Hall , the new W . M ., Bro . Cooke , for the first time opened the lodge at 8 p . m ., suppoitcd by Bro . Bartrum , I . P . M . ; Gore , S . W . ; H .

Gulliford Hopkins , J . W . ; Dickenson , Sec ; Barber , Treas . ; Little , I . G . ; C . A . Bush , P . M . ; and a feyv other members . The minutes having been read and confirmed , and also the bye-layvs , a formal procession entered the room , consisting of Bros . Clark , W . M . ; Brown , S . W . ; Wilton , P . M . ; Ashley , P . M . ; Cooper , P . M . ; Dr . 11 . Hopkins , P . P . G . S . W . and P . M . 43 and 958 ; Braham ,

J . D . ; and others , all of the Royal Cumberland Lodge , No . 41 , of yvhose attendance previous notice had been given , and they yvere received yvith the usual honours . The report of the Treasurer , yvhich had been duly audited , was adopted . Thc report of the Provincial Grand Treasurer yvas also presented . Out of these two arose a discussion yvith regard to the expense of a meeting of

Provincial Grand Lodge held at Bath in 1874 . I Ins had entailed an expenditure of £ 40 , divided between the three lodges , yvhich yvas felt to be a heavy tax upon so small a lodge as 379 . Thc consideration which suggested itself yvas that the Provincial Grand Lodge should bear its own expenses , more especially as it had money in hand and invested to thc extent of about £ 5000 . Thc ' result yvas an expression as to the desirability of [ ventilating the matter

at the next meeting of that body . Other business yvas disposed of , and the lodge was opened in the 2 nd Degree . It had been arranged that the ceremony of raising the candidate should be performed by his Bro . C . A . Bush , yvho had initiated and passed him , but as he was not very yvell , Bro . Dr . Hopkins yvas at a moment ' s notice called upon to take his place . He accordingly entered thc chair , and having examined Bro . H . G . Bush ,

complimented him on the perfect accuracy of his replies to thc questions , entrusted him , and dismissed him for preparation . The lodge was opened in the Third Degree , and the whole of the ceremony yvas performed by Dr . Hopkins , including the traditionary history and the charge . Bro . Cooper impressively recited thc passages of saipture bearing upon the subject , and Bros . C . A . Bush and Dickenson acted as Deacons . Thc W . M .

again took the chair , resumed the lodge in the 2 nd , and afteryvards in the 1 st Degree . On the proposition of the S . W ., seconded by the J . W ., a vote of thanks was passed to Bro . Dr . Hopkins for his assistance in conducting the ceremony . A similar vote yvas passed to the W . M . and members of No . 41 for their attendance . Suitable acknowledgments yvere made , and the lodge wss

closed at 10 o ' clock . The Provincial Grand Master , in responding , said that as this yvas the first lodge he had visited since his installation , he must say that yvhich he had unfortunately forgotton to say on the occasion of his being placed in that proud position . He omitted altogether to refer to the great loss sustained

by Freemasonry in Norfolk by the death ofthe late P . G . M ., Bro . Benjamin Bond Cabbell . The late P . G . M . yvas ever distinguished by a desire ' to do ' cyerything in his poyyer to promote Freemasonry . He was ever foremost in subscribing to the different Masonic charities , and he yvas always ready to lend a helping hand to everything that tended to the interest of thc Craft . In him thc province had lost one

who had endeared himself to all the brethren , and that loss they would never icease to deplore . *** In conclusion , the P . G . M . said he should do his best to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor , and should consider himself yvell reyvarded for his efforts if he succeeded in winning- for himself but a small part of thc esteem in yvhich their late P . G . M . had been held . The next toast yvas given by the

S . W ., Bro . Cubitt , and yvas that of " The W . M . of the Lodge "—a toast that yvas also received yvith full Masonic honours . The W . Provincial Grand Lodge held at Bath in 1874 . I Ins had entailed an expenditure of £ 40 , divided between the three lodges , yvhich yvas felt to be a heavy tax upon so small a lodge as 379 . Thc consideration which suggested itself yvas that the Provincial Grand Lodge should bear its own expenses , more especially as it had money in hand and invested to thc extent of about £ 5000 . at the next meeting of that body . Other business yvas disposed of , and the lodge was opened in the 2 nd Degree . It had been arranged that the ceremony of raising the candidate should be performed by his Bro . C . A . Bush , yvho had initiated and passed him , but as he was not very yvell , Bro . Dr . Hopkins yvas at a moment ' s notice called upon to take his place . He accordingly entered thc chair , and having examined Bro . H . G . Bush ,

complimented him on the perfect accuracy of his replies to thc questions , entrusted him , and dismissed him for preparation .
