This toast having been warmly received , Bro . Saunders contributed a verse of " God bless the Prince of Wales . " " The Healths of the P . G . M ., thc D . G . M ., and the rest of

followed , yvhich yvas responded to by Bros . Ilurst and Withycombe . The former stated hoyv gratified he felt at having been present that evening , and how pleased he was at witnessing the excellent working of the lodge , and he yvas sorry that other lodges in the province yvere not in the same state of yvorking proficiency as the Francis Burdett Lodge . The latter , in the course of a very neat speech , stated

that he believed that the mtercours-e of brethren belonging to various lodges in thc Craft yvas a thing greatly to be desired . He also believed that brethren by visiting lodges had an opportunity of witnessing thc working of different Masters , which could but be beneficial to them , and in conclusion he stated that in his opinion—to use a homely expression—thc members of the Craft should not be

disunited like a loose bundle of sticks , but be yvell yvelded together like bars of iron in one common cause , and that the foundations of Freemasonry , viz ., Unity , Harmony , and Brotherly Love , must then far ever flourish . Bro . Horsley then rose and proposed " The I lealth of the W . M ., Bro . Wigginton , " by whose unremitting attention the lodge in so short a time had been brought to si . high and flourishing

a condition . He yvent on to say that although the W . M . had held high rank in an older Masoi / ic province than that of Middlesex , he had , yvhen offered , accepted the position of Grand Steward in that province , and he hoped that before the termination of his year of office as W . M . the members of the Francis Burdett Lodge yvould have the honour of seeing him occupying a dignified position in the

province , which had for a Grand Master so distinguished a Mason as Bro . Colonel Burdett . This toast having been duly honoured , thc W . M . made a brief and suitable reply . "The Health of the Principal Oflicers and Junior Officers of the Lodge" then followed . Bros . Saunders and Tomlinson responded for the first mentioned toast , and Bro . D ' Orseyfor thc latter . In the intervals ol thc toasts and

replies Bros . Saunders , Hurst , and Walls contributed several old English ballads , and thc Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a conclusion . CLAYTON-LE-MOORS . —Albert Edward Lodge ( No . 15 ig\—lhe commemoration of the Festival of St . John the Evangelist , and the installation of Bro . Edmund Ileyyvood , as W . S . W . 462 ; arid many others . The lodge yvas opened by Bro . James Walker , VV . M . 37 , after yvhich Bro . John Tunnah , Prov . Grand Secretary , was inducted into the chair of K . S . It need hardly be said that Bro . Tunnah performed the ceremony in a most able and impressive manner . His perfect enunciation and intelligent rendering of our beautiful ritual bore evidence of his " thoroughness" and honesty of purpose . In fact , it may be said of our esteemed and worthy Prov . G . Sec ,

" His doctrine and his life , Co-incident , exhibit lucid proof , That he is honest in the sacred cause . " After the newly Installed Master had received the accustomed salutions Bro . Newton invested the folloyving brethren yvith the collar and jewel appertaining to their respective offices : —Bros . John Tennant , S . W . ; L .

proposed by the W . M . in brief but suitable terms . " The Health of the W . M . " yvas proposed by Bro . Tunnah , P . G . S ., in a characteristic speech . He spoke in very high terms of the new W . M ., yvho , in conjunction with his father , the retiring W . M ., had shown such praiseyvorthy zeal in the cause of Freemasonry . to thc distant Indian Empire had thus far been so eminently successful , and he hoped that the kind Providence that had hitherto watched over him would continue to do so until the Prince arrived again upon his native shores .
