Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

of rote , like a boy out of a Dame school , but as if it was a religion—and it was a religion—of the world . The I . P . M . had given it as such . Whether in initiation , or passing , or raising he had thrown his whole strength into the ceremonies , and had given the ritual of the Order with all its strength and beauty . Bro . Kimpton , I . P . M ., in reply , said it afforded him

sincere pleasure to thank the brethren , and the W . M . especially for his words of commendation . The W . M . really affected him very much when he presented to him the Past Master's jewel , and he vvas not able to reply as he should have liked . He should feel wanting if he did not mete out the great measure of praise which was due to his intimate friend and one of the visitors that night—Bro . David Rose .

If he during his year of office had afforded the brethren any intellectual delight or satisfaction with regard to the ritual of Masonry and in installing the VV . M ., he could only say he had been the medium of an old and intimate friend and Preceptor , who was present as a visitor—Past Master David Rose—but for whom he should never have been able to do it . That ritual had impressed him very considerably .

He had been too much affected in lodge to thank the brethren for the beautiful jewel , but he now heartily and sincerely thanked them , and hoped he should have health and strength to wear the jewel many years , and to be among the brethren . The brethren had done him great honour by presenting him vvith it . He also thanked the brethren for his election as Treasurer , the duties of which office he

would perform to the best of his ability . In reply to the toast of "The Initiate , " Bro . Yeomans said he trusted he should always prove a true and faithful brother among them , and with their assistance he hoped he should be of use among Masons . The Worshipful Master then proposed " The Visitors , " all of whom were knovvn for their integrity , their honour ,

and their Masonic capabilities . Bro . C . F . Matier , and the Deputy Grand Master of the Punjaub replied to the toast of "T he Visitors , * ' after vvhich Bro . David Rose said it was the first time he had had an opportunity of being in this lodge , notwithstanding he had had several invitations . He had been highly gratified by the performance of the ceremonies that evening , more

especially by the installation of the W . M . by the I . P . M . He vvas pleased he had been associated vvith him in his endeavours to make himself perfect . He hoped he should have an opportnuity of visiting the Iodge in future and seeing the working of the W . M . Bro . Rest said he had visited the lodge so often that he looked upon himself as one of the brethren of the lodge .

He thanked them most heartily for the kind treatment the visitors had received , but he must say something for the working of the lodge . He had looked upon it with the greatest satisfaction , for the work had been done admirably . It could not have been done better . If the brethren worked on the lines of the W . M . the lodge could not be excelled . He hoped all the brethren vvould take the example of the W . M . and P . M . ' s .

The Worshipful Master , in proposing " The Masonic Institutions , " said he vvas going to stand as Steward for the Girls' Festival . Bro . James Terry responded , and while rejoicing that the Girls' and Boys' Schools could take on nearly all their candidates , deeply deplored that the Benevolent Institution could only take on two widows out of 7 8 , and 4 men out of

52 . He vvould like in the Jubilee year to besuccessful vvith his scheme for having an additional 20 to be called " The Royal Victorian Jubilee Annuitants . " The Worshipful Master in proposing "The P . M . ' s , " hoped Bro . Terry would forgive him for not taking the Stewardship of the Benevolent Institution , but he had previously pledged himself to Bro . Hedges in a chapter to

which he belonged . The P . M . ' s of the lodge they had reason to be proud of , Bro . Butcher as aP . M . and Treas ., Bro . Recknell as P . M . and Sec , and Bro . Kimpton , I . P . M . He could not help referring here to a brother who had passed away to the Grand Lodge above who had been a good friend to him . He referred to Bro . Bush , a member of Grand Lodge and the Board of General Purposes , and

a Vice-President of the Institutions . Thelodgehad already passed a vote of condolence to his widow and family , expressing sympathy with them in the loss they had sustained . He hoped they would long have such men in the Temple Bar Lodge . Bro . Butcher , P . M ., in reply , said that during the nine years vvhich had elapsed since he became one of the

founders of the Iodge , he had had the gratification of seeing the I . P . M . and the Secretary initiated in that lodge . He had seen many others , and he also had seen the present W . M . become a joining member . He hoped they would continue to be members of the lodge , and work shoulder to shoulder , and do all within their power to increase the prosperity of the lodge . They had done so in the past . There

were a goodly number of visitors present , vvhich vvas a good proof that the lodge was not losing ground . He liked to see the old members stand by the lodge and help it . He resigned the Treasurership for two reasons , one being that his business would not allow of his being present at the opening of the lodge , and the other that he liked to see the older members make way for the younger . In the same

way he liked to see the initiates work their way up . Bro . Recknell , P . M ., responded to the toast of "The Treasurer and Secretary . " What he did for the Temple Bar Lodge he did vvith all his heart . He was the first initiate of the lodge , and , with the exception of the consecration , he had been at every meeting . He had seen its little ups and downs , but he hoped the present would be

a most successful year . He congratulated the W . M . on the prospects of the lodge , and he also congratulated Bro . Kimpton on the able way in which he had performed the ceremony of installation . All the brethren who listened to him must have been struck with the eloquent manner in which he delivered the beautiful addresses .

Bro . Rexworthy , and the other officers , responded to the toast of " The Officers , " and the Tyler ' s toast having been given , the brethren separated . Some excellent songs and recitations were given in the course of the evening by Bros . A . Grover , A . G . Pritchard , J . H . Pitt , W . H . Webb , Charles Gooding , R . j . Pitt , and George F . Grover .

The Worshipful Master , in responding to his health , said he had heard that all the Masters of lodges were to be knighted or made knights of , but for the correctness of such he could not guarantee , but he would one thing—that was , that the crowning ( k ) night of every Mason was when installed as he had been that evening .

Bro . McLaren , I . P .

Grover .
