During his stay in Melbourne he vvas entertained by the Mayor of the Victorian capital at a banquet , in the Town Hall . Sir Robert was also elected an honorary member of the Melbourne Masonic Club .

Grand Master of the English , Irish , and Scotch Freemasons of Victoria , with Lady Clarke and family , have returned to Melbourne , after * a year ' s sojourn in the old country . It is the intention of the Melbourne Craft to honour our distinguished brother vvith a ball in the new Freemasons' Hall , of vvhich company Sir William is
chairman . Bro . Lord Carrington , P . G . W ., Governor of New South Wales , and Lady Carrington were the guests of Bro . Sir H . B . Lock , Governor of Victoria , and Lady Lock , on their visit to Melbourne during the Victoria Racing Club fortnight . Lord Carrington was
entertained at luncheon by the members of the Melbourne Masonic Club . Originally , however , it was intended to have given a Masonic ball in honour of the distinguished visitors , but their engagements vvould not admit of the arrangements being carried out at that time . Bro . William Beach , the champion oarsman of the world , who is a member of Lodge Tarbolton , No . 377 , Sydney
( S . C ) , has been the recipient of warm receptions at Adelaide , Melbourne , and Sydney , on returning from his victorious English tour . D ., ' was present at the meeting of the La France Lodge , No . 2060 , on the 17 th inst ., and gave the charge in the French language , to the great satisfaction of the French brethren and of the four initiates . Bro . Deputy T . Beard entertained a party of
friends at the Guildhall Tavern , on Monday last . There were present Bros . William Alpheus Higgs , Deputy George Sims , Albert J . Altman , Major Josephs , George Foster , Henry Squires , Deputy J . E . Walford , George Kenning , T . Beard , jun ., Mathew R . Webb , and others . The funeral of the late Bro . Thomas Burdett Yeoman took place at Abney Park Cemetery on Monday ,
the ioth inst ., and vvas attended by many of the deceased's family and friends . Bro . Yeoman was greatly respected by his brother Masons , and was the author of two or three Masonic songs , vvhich were deservedly popular . The brethren of the Franklin lodge , No . 838 , Boston , held at the Peacock and Royal Hotel , recently commemorated the Festival of St . John , when Bro . Robert

The value of hand grenades as fire-extinguishers , and the great advantage of having them on the premises , was shown at the fire which occurred on Sunday last at
Wrottesley , the seat of Lord Wrottesley . His lordship and Lady Wrottesley and family , and the household were in bed at the time of the outbreak , but fortunately the housekeeper vvas awakened by the noise , and on going downstairs she discovered the kitchen in flames , she immediately raised an alarm , and Lord Wrottesley and the servants , with hand genades , succeeded in putting out the fire .

George Kenning , of the Freemason , contains a very comprehensive list of the various Masonic bodies throughout the kingdom , and lists of the principal Grand Lodges of foreign countries . During his stay in Melbourne he vvas entertained by the Mayor of the Victorian capital at a banquet , in the Town Hall . Sir Robert was also elected an honorary member of the Melbourne Masonic Club .
Bro . Sir W . J . Clarke , Bart ., R . W . District and Prov . Grand Master of the English , Irish , and Scotch Freemasons of Victoria , with Lady Clarke and family , have returned to Melbourne , after * a year ' s sojourn in the old country . It is the intention of the Melbourne Craft to honour our distinguished brother vvith a ball in the new Freemasons' Hall , of vvhich company Sir William is
chairman . Bro . Lord Carrington , P . G . W ., Governor of New South Wales , and Lady Carrington were the guests of Bro . Sir H . B . Lock , Governor of Victoria , and Lady Lock , on their visit to Melbourne during the Victoria Racing Club fortnight . Lord Carrington was
entertained at luncheon by the members of the Melbourne Masonic Club . Originally , however , it was intended to have given a Masonic ball in honour of the distinguished visitors , but their engagements vvould not admit of the arrangements being carried out at that time . Bro . William Beach , the champion oarsman of the world , who is a member of Lodge Tarbolton , No . 377 , Sydney
( S . C ) , has been the recipient of warm receptions at Adelaide , Melbourne , and Sydney , on returning from his victorious English tour . Testimonials ( purses of gold , jewellery , and the like ) , as well as entertainments by the Mayors of the three cities , were literally showered on the great sculler ; and at Sydney Bro . Bro . Thomas Fenn , President of the Board of General Purposes , and P . G . D ., ' was present at the meeting of the La France Lodge , No . 2060 , on the 17 th inst ., and gave the charge in the French language , to the great satisfaction of the French brethren and of the four initiates . Bro . Deputy T . Beard entertained a party of
friends at the Guildhall Tavern , on Monday last . There were present Bros . William Alpheus Higgs , Deputy George Sims , Albert J . Altman , Major Josephs , George Foster , Henry Squires , Deputy J . E . Walford , George Kenning , T . Beard , jun ., Mathew R . Webb , and others . The funeral of the late Bro . Thomas Burdett Yeoman took place at Abney Park Cemetery on Monday ,
the ioth inst ., and vvas attended by many of the deceased's family and friends . Bro . Yeoman was greatly respected by his brother Masons , and was the author of two or three Masonic songs , vvhich were deservedly popular . The brethren of the Franklin lodge , No . 838 , Boston , held at the Peacock and Royal Hotel , recently commemorated the Festival of St . John , when Bro . Robert
Hayes was installed as VV . M . The various new officers for the ensuing year were invested , and the other routine business having also been transacted , a large party sat down to a sumptuous banquet , the serving up of vvhich reflected much credit on the taste and spirit displayed by Bro . The value of hand grenades as fire-extinguishers , and the great advantage of having them on the premises , was shown at the fire which occurred on Sunday last at
Wrottesley , the seat of Lord Wrottesley . His lordship and Lady Wrottesley and family , and the household were in bed at the time of the outbreak , but fortunately the housekeeper vvas awakened by the noise , and on going downstairs she discovered the kitchen in flames , she immediately raised an alarm , and Lord Wrottesley and the servants , with hand genades , succeeded in putting out the fire .
The seventeenth annual issue of the " Cosmopolitan Masonic Calendar and Pocket Book" for 1 SS 7 , published by Mr . George Kenning , of the Freemason , contains a very comprehensive list of the various Masonic bodies throughout the kingdom , and lists of the principal Grand Lodges of foreign countries . There has been an
increase of 53 to the number of Craft lodges under the Grand Lodge of England during the year . The latest number lor 1 S 87 is 2182 . The name , time , and place of meeting of all the lodges , and the names of the Grand and the principal Provincial Grand Officers are given in the Calendar—Newcastle Journal .

thoroughly . The 38 th annual festival and ball , in aid of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institute was held at the Town Hall , Liverpool , on Tuesday , the nth instant . Between 600 and 700 guests were present , the number
being in excess of every previous occasion , vvith the exception of that at which the presentation vvas made to the Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom , D . G . M . of England , and Prov . G . M . of West Lancashire . The ball vvas also a great success in all other respects , and we trust will prove beneficial to the Institute .

H . R . H . the Prince of Wales has been pleased to grant a warrant for a new Masonic lodge to be called the " Anglo-American . " The lodge is formed with a view of affording facilities for Americans resident in England meeting their brethren of the English Grand Lodge under the Constitutions of the latter body . Bro . Brackstone Baker , P . G . D ., who is well knovvn on both sides of the Atlantic , is
to be the first Master , Bro . Major George Lambert , F . S . A ., P . G . S . B ., acting past master , and Bros . A Clarke and F . Kedge the first Senior and Junior Wardens respectively ; Bro . G . Reynolds being the Secretary pro tem . The Constance Lodge , No . 2135 , Consett , gave their first ball in the New Town Hall , Consett , on Wednesday the 12 th inst . There vvas a large attendance of
members and brethren from other lodges in Durham and Newcastle , and the ladies being equally numerous . Everything passed off most enjoyably , the scene being additionally brilliant through the brethren appearing—by dispensation from Bro . Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., P . G . supplied by Bro . George Brown , of the Railway Hotel , and the music by Messrs , Parker and Hardcastle , Consett , Mr .
