chairs of M . E . Z ., H ., and J ., respectively . Although this was the second annual meeting since the consecration , no installation ceremony has yet been necessary , all the Principals being P . Zs . The following officers were invested : Comps . J . H . Hawkins , 1 . P . Z . ; W . S . Hooper , S . E . ; Clifford , S . N . ; Beard , Treas . ; Henson , P . S . ; Claude Hooper , ist A . S . ; Hadley , 2 nd A . S . ; Thomas , D . C ; Kift , Org . ; King and Garston , Stwds . ; and Austin , Janitor . The M . E . Z . consented to be elected as Steward for the Boys' School , and five guineas were voted to his list , which was increased to 45 guineas later in the evening . \ " miniature gold P . Z . ' s jewel , set with diamonds , was presented to Comp . Hawkins , I . P . Z ., in recognition of his able services , and the gift was duly acknowledged .

The chapter was then closed , and an adjournment made to the Eccentric Club , where a banquet was served , which reflected great credit on all concerned . The customary toasts were afterwards given and heartily honoured . Comp . J . II . Hawkins , I . P . Z ., proposed "The Health of the M . E . Z ., " and asked the companions to cordially drink the toast , as it was Comp . Serjeant Lee ' s birthday . The manner in which the M . E . Z . had discharged his duties in the Craft , and as J . and H . of the chapter , was a good omen for the coming year , and for a renewed period of prosperity for the Eccentric Chapter .

Comp . W . Serjeant Lee , M . E . Z ., said he was at a loss to express his thanks for the kindly manner in which he had been alluded to . It was an honour to be Worshipful Master of a lodge , but it was a higher honour to be the First Principal of a chapter , because in the chapter they found the cream of the members . He had to express his gratitude to the members for asking him to represent them as Steward for the Boys ' School . He had sent in his name as an Unattached Steward , knowing the many calls being made upon the companions this year , but the members had voted him five guineas from the chapter funds , and had increased the total of his list to 45 guineas . That was

an unexpected pleasure and privilege of which he was very proud , and he could assure them it had given him great gratification to represent the Eccentric Chapter . "The Exaltees " was next given , the five new members replying . In giving " The P . Zs ., " the M . E . Z . referred in kindly terms to Comp . Will Chapman , the first M . E . Z ., who is in South Africa , and who was doubtless with them in spirit . The only other P . Z . of the chapter was Comp . Hawkins , who had the whole of the Craft and Arch ritual , if not at his tongue's end , so near that little effort brought it foith in his working that night , there had been no hesitation and no halting , but it was beautifully done in every respect .

Comp . J . H . Hawkins , I . P . Z ., having responded on behalf of Comp . Chapman , said he had to thank them for the handsome present made him that evening . As far as the work was concerned , if it was done properly it was very solemn , indeed , but if not , it was an unfortunate burlesque . The officers now at the head of the chapter were such that it aucured well for the future prosperity of the chapter .

The M . E . Z . then proposed " The H . and J ., " and said that Comps . Dangerfield and Cleave were already Past Principals , and were both ready and willing to perform any duties when called upon . Comps . Dangeilield , II ., and J . R . Cleave , J ., briefly responded , and "The Officers having been honoured , the proceedings , which had been throughout of a very pleasant and enjoyable nature , then terminated .

BRO . SIR POLYDORE DE KEVSER , P . G . D . We regret to announce the death , on Sunday last , of Bro . Sir Polydore de Keyser , who had the honour of knighthood conferred upon him for his services as Lord Mayor of London during the year 1 SS 7-S . The deceased was initiated in the Emulation Lodge , No . 21 , on the 9 th May , 1862 . In 1 S 6 S he assisted in founding the Macdonald Lodge , No . 1216 , which is connected with , and meets at , the

headquarters of the ist Surrey Rifle Volunteers . He subsequently became a joining member of the Alliance Lodge , No . 1827 , which was founded in 1 S 79 for the convenience of members of the Corporation , and the Anglo-American Lodge , No . 2191 . In the year of his Lord Mayoralty he was installed W . M . of his mother lodge , and in 1 SS 9 was appointed S . G . Deacon of England . It was during his Mastership and Mayoralty that the honour devolved upon him of laying the

foundation-stone of the new Technical Schools at Stockport , a ceremony in which he was assisted by the officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cheshire . He was exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Fidelity Chapter , No . 3 , in 186 3 , and in 186 9 held the office of S . MR . FREDERICK WOLFE HENNAH . The Canadian mail has brought the sad news of the sudden death , at the age of 24 , of Mr . Frederick Wolfe Hennah , from blood poisoning , at the Royal Victoria Hospital , Montreal , on the 16 th December last , after an operation Appendicitis . Mr . Hennah was the eldest son of the late Rev . W . H . Hennah , F . R . A . S ., an active member of the Islington Vestry and Board of Guardians ,

and Mrs . William Harris Saunders , of Carleton Queen ' s College , Tufnell Park . The sadness was the more unexpected as Mrs . Saunders had only a week before received a most satisfactory letter from him telling her how well he was succeeding in his appointment as manager of the optical department of Messrs Henry Morgan and Co ., Colonial merchants , at Montreal , also that he had made the acquaintance of many , who had been most hospitable and kind to him , and

that he was about to send for his brother , Mr . Wm . Eady Hennah , who was living at Vancouver , following the profession of a dentist , and just recovering from a severe attack of diphtheria . Mrs . Saunders has received most sympathetic and gratifying letters from the firm , giving full particulars of the sad event and testifying to his business ability , urbanity , and success while in their employ . Mr . Henry Morgan felt his loss deeply , and in speaking to a mutual friend , said " how sorry he was , and how much he was

beloved by all in the place . I never knew anyone who in so short a time had made so many friends , and he was a young man who had a very brilliant career ahead of him—such a clever fellow . " His musical talent and lovely voice made him very popular in some of the best society , and his sorrowing mother has had most sympathetic letters , not only from Montreal , but also from other parts of the great Continent , which he had made his home during the last four years .

IT is ANNOUNCKI ) that if anyone will send , by post , newspapeis for the use of British troops in the desert , the Rev . A . W . B . He was exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Fidelity Chapter , No . 3 , in 186 3 , and in 186 9 held the office of S . N ., and was also a Life Governor of both our Scholastic Institutions , and had served as Steward for that of the Girls . We tender our respectful sympathies to the relatives of our late brother .
