CONSECRATION OF THE ROYAL OAK ARK MARINERS LODGE , No . 416 .

The consecration of this lodge took place on Wednesday , the 12 th inst ., & t the Trafalgar Hotel , Greenwich . A Royal Ark M inner * lodge was opened by Bros . R . Voisey , R . A . C ., acting as C . N . ; J . J . fakes , as J . ; Dandridge , asS . ; Crook and Bugles , Deacons ; and Tims , as Guarder . BrOi the Right Hon . Viscount Dungarvan , Prov . G . M . Kent , attended by his Deputy and Prov . G . Sec , entered the lodge , and was saluted by the brethren .

The following brethren were elevated to the Ark Mariners Degree ; Bros . A . H . Bateman , P . P . G . O . Kent ; A . T . Dealer , P . P . A . G . S . ; C . W . Fageant , E . S . Cockton , H . W . P . Makeham , and A . Akam . The Prov . G . M . then assumed the chair for the purpose of consecrating the lodge , assisted by Bros . R . Voisey , R . A . C ., as J . ; Hughes-Halledt , D . P . G . M ., as S . ; J . J . Pakes , P . P . G . O ., as Chap . ; A . II . Bateman , P . P . G . O ., as D . C ; A . C . Dandridge , P . G . I . G ., as I . G . ; and E . S . Cockton , as Org .

The address and ceremony of consecration was most impressively rendered by the Prov . G . M ., the Right Hon . the Viscount Dungarvan . After the consecration , Bro . J . J . Pakes , P . Prov . G . O ., was enthroned as the W . C . N , for the ensuing year , and appointed the following officers : Bros . A . C . Dandridge , Prov . G . I . G .. J . ; W . P . Crook , S . ; T . Bugler , Scribe ; W . Pensose , S . D . ; J . W . Tims , J . D . J . G . Thomas , Guarder ; E . S . Cockton , Org .: and A . Ball , Warder .

The W . C . N , proposed a most cordial vote of thanks to the Right Hon . the Viscount Dungarvan , Prov . G . M . ; the Deputy G . M ., Bro . Hughes-Hallet ; the Prov . G . Sec , Bro . J . G . Podevin ; and Bro . R . Voisey , R . A . C ., for their kindness in attending to consecrate the lodge . This was seconded by Bro . A . C . DANIJRIIIGE , and carried by acclamation . The PROV . GRAND MASTER , in a few well-chosen words , expressed the pleasure he had in attending to perform the ceremony .

Resolved unanimously that the Consecrating Officers bs , and are hereby , made honorary members of the lodge . The lodge was closed and the brethren adjourned to the banqurt , presided over by the W . C . N ., Bro . J . J . Pakes , who was supported on his right by the Right Hon . Viscount Dungarvan , Prov . G . Master . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts followed , Bro . R . VOISEY , R A . C ., responding for "The Grand Officers . "

In proposing "The Health of the Prov . G . Master , " the W . C . N , expressed the feeling of sincere loyalty which every member of the lodge felt towards his lordship , their grateful thanks for his kindness in attending , and their sincere and earnest hope that his lordship might have a safe and pleasant journey on his contemplated tour in America and return to his province in health and strength .

Lord DUNGARVAN , when rising to reply , was received with continued applause from the brethren . He stated with what pleasure he consecrated their lodge ; how great an interest he took in all Mark Masonry in Kent , how he hoped success would attend the lodge so happily constituted that day , and now he hoped that all lodges under his jurisdiction in Kent would continue to advance and prosper , and assured the brethren that as their Prov . Grand Master he would do all that he could to further this great end .

In replying to the toast of " The Dep . G . M ., " Bro . HVCUES HALI . ETT expressed the pleasure it had given him to attend , and , although , owing to various reasons , the consecration had been delayed for some months , yet it was most gratifying to him as the Dep . Prov . G . M . to know that he had been the means of assisting to carry out the object . Bro . A . H . BATEMAN , P . P . G . Org ., in a very effective speech returned thanks for the Prov . G . Officers , Past and Present .

Bro . lhe Right Hon . the Visrount DUNGARVAN , in proposing " The Health of the W . C . N ., Bro . John J . Pakes , " spoke in the most kindly manner of Bro . Pakes ' s Masonic career , and expressed the hope , in which he was sure all would join , that the newly-enthroned W . C . N , might havea very happy and prosperous year of office . Bro . PARKS , in reply , thanked his lordship for his very flattering remarks ,

and explained to the brethren how very much he had been assisted by the Deputy Prov . Grand Master and the Prov . Grand Secretary , to whom he had written so many letters asking for advice and counsel , that he feared those distinguished brethren must have come to look upon him as a complete nuisance ; but , in spite of that , they had rendered him very great and valuable assistance , and he was only too pleased to tender to them , in the presence of the ledge , his very sincere thanks .

Bros . A . I . DEALER , P . P . A . G . S ., and Ii . S . COCKTON returned thanks for thr toast of " The Founders . " Bros . DANDRIUOE , CROOK , BUGLER , and TIMS replied-for "The Officers of the Lodge . " During the evening Bros . Bugler and Cockton contributed to the amusement of the brethren by some of their choice songs , for which these brethren are so noted amongst the lodges in this neighbourhood .

A very happy evening was concluded by the Tyler ' s toast , and the brethren departed well satisfied with the success of the gathering .

+ BRO . LORD AND LADY A LGERNON GORDON-LENNOX have returned to Broughton Castle , Oxfordshire , from Warwick Castle . AT THR inaugural dinner of the Corinthian Club in Dublin on Saturday night , at which Bro . Gerald Balfour was present , Bro . Lord Roberts , in responding- to the toast of

"The Army and Navy , " said it was a satisfaction to him to know that affairs in India were receiving the attention they deserve . ! . He hid a firm belief in the good sense of the British public , and felt confident that they would bs guided aright in these nutters ; and , if they wished to have an ellicient Army , they must have soldiers able to undergo hardshipssucti as they had to bear in India . If they desired to have peace on the Indian frontier , they must have control over the 20 , 000 fighting ; men of that country .

Bro . G . J . McKay , in responding for " lhe Grand Officers , " said he was much touched by the reading of the letter from Lord Lathom in acknowledging the vote of condolence passed by the brethren of No . SS on his lordship ' s sad bereavement . It had been his privilege to be associated with the Pro Grand Master for a quarter of a century , and there was not a bstter Mason in England . lie ( the speaker ) believed the Grand Ollicers did their best ( or the prosperity ot their n ible Craft .

I he Installing - Master was a little nervous , but their dear old friend , Uro . H . Chennell , P . M ., wounat up the proceedings in splendid fashbn , and he loved very much to hear the old conventional ritual which was used in the charges . The lodge showed the true spirit of Masonry , and if the same prevailed all over England and the world , how much happier would nun be .

Pakes ' s Masonic career , and expressed the hope , in which he was sure all would join , that the newly-enthroned W . C . N , might havea very happy and prosperous year of office . Bro . PARKS , in reply , thanked his lordship for his very flattering remarks ,

and explained to the brethren how very much he had been assisted by the Deputy Prov . Grand Master and the Prov . Grand Secretary , to whom he had written so many letters asking for advice and counsel , that he feared those distinguished brethren must have come to look upon him as a complete nuisance ; but , in spite of that , they had rendered him very great and valuable assistance , and he was only too pleased to tender to them , in the presence of the ledge , his very sincere thanks .

DANDRIUOE , CROOK , BUGLER , and TIMS replied-for "The Officers of the Lodge . " During the evening Bros . Bugler and Cockton contributed to the amusement of the brethren by some of their choice songs , for which these brethren are so noted amongst the lodges in this neighbourhood .

A very happy evening was concluded by the Tyler ' s toast , and the brethren departed well satisfied with the success of the gathering .

He hid a firm belief in the good sense of the British public , and felt confident that they would bs guided aright in these nutters ; and , if they wished to have an ellicient Army , they must have soldiers able to undergo hardshipssucti as they had to bear in India . If they desired to have peace on the Indian frontier , they must have control over the 20 , 000 fighting ; men of that country .

Bro . G . J . McKay , in responding for " lhe Grand Officers , " said he was much touched by the reading of the letter from Lord Lathom in acknowledging the vote of condolence passed by the brethren of No . SS on his lordship ' s sad bereavement . It had been his privilege to be associated with the Pro Grand Master for a quarter of a century , and there was not a bstter Mason in England . lie ( the speaker ) believed the Grand Ollicers did their best ( or the prosperity ot their n ible Craft .

M ., wounat up the proceedings in splendid fashbn , and he loved very much to hear the old conventional ritual which was used in the charges . The lodge showed the true spirit of Masonry , and if the same prevailed all over England and the world , how much happier would nun be .
