unfortunately it was otherwise with the late Bro . Moyes . With regard to the conplimentary reference of Bro . W . P . Brown Eo his * ' old conventional ritual " in the Charges , it was indeed a pleasure to have praise from such high phces . He might m ntion that both his father and grandfather were Fretma-ons , and he inherited much of his work from them . Some of it , too , was derived from a former W . M . was heartily congratulated upon being called upon to rule a lodge which his worthy father had successfully presided over , and everyone wished him a prosperous and happy year of office . Bro . Barnard remarked that the archaic way of working the charges was a perfect treat , and he could wish that it was embodied in the Emulation work .

It should be stated that the harmony of the evening was much enhanced by the vocal efforts of three artistes—Miss Florence Venning , Miss Jessie Hotine , and Mr . W . Duver , with Bro . F . Dewberry , 'Mus . Bac , at the pianoforte .

Farrance thanked the unknown donor through the Worshipful Master for the valuable presjnt , and said he should always treasure it with a great amount of pride and hoped that he should

Ingram , P . M ., lyler . The W . M . then proved his ability to occupy the chair by ably initiating Messrs . Godley and Healey into Freemasonry , after which the lodge wis closed . After a substantial repast , the usuil toasts received hearty recognition . Bro . W . Vincent , G . Std . Br ., replying for " The Grand Officers , " said he was glad to hear from the remarks of the W . M . that the sympathy of the brethren had not flagged in refeience to the intense bereavement suffered by the Pro . G . M . The G Officers were those who had held offices in lodges or had been connected with the inner

working of Masonry on Committees , whilst others had been z : alous in giving instructioi in this and other Degrees . Some G . Officers travelled about a great ilea } , and without speaking- egotistically , he might say he had been all over Britain , and was an honorary member of 54 lodges . He was present at the memorable occasion of the consecration of that lodge , and had been present on two other occasion ; < once when they initiated , and again when they installed , that distinguished voljn ' . eer , Col . Smi h Richard i . He

regarded those meetings as memorable occisioas , but that night he looked upon witi higher pride . The W . M . and himself had been colleagues for nearly 30 years , and he hoped their friendship was as warm as it ever was . Bro . Miller was a good colleague , a careful worker in all duties , and an enthusiastic volunteer . They had had a simple of what the VV . AI . could do as a Freemason from the manner in which he initiated the two candidates that evening . It was a pleasure to see such a brother doing the lodge honour and credit , knowing how to do his duty and doing it in the right way .

"the Health of the Worshipful Mister" was given by Bro . T . W . Mogford , I . P . M ., who said it needed few words to recommend it . The members had seen the work done by lhe W . M . when he occupied the important offi .-e of VVarden and as Secretary . 'There was another thing he need not bring to their lecollection , and that was his good work done in founding thtir lodge , for there was no doubt that he wis absolutely the fithcr of the lodge . The W . M . wis , moreover , the oldest Mison , not only in the lodge , but with them that night , having been initiated abaut IS 5 I . The brethren had elected him to fill the ihair , and would not legret their choice , and there was every assurance that his work-in the future would surpass his pist efforts .

Bro . J . L . Miller , W . M ., said he could only thank them for the kind way in which the toast had been proposed and received . He fully intended t > fill the office and carry out the duties to the best of his ability . As he had asked that the speeches should be brief , he would only thank them once again most heartily . " The Initiates " was responded to by Bros . Gjdley and Healey , who said that the grandeur and solemnity of the occasion hid exc-. eded their anttcioations .

lhe W . M ., in submitting " The Installing Master and Past Masters , " said the hearty thanks ot the lodge was due to the Past . Master .,. He thought their lodge was unique , for the first W . M . set a brilliant cximple which had besn copied by his successors , and the high pos tion of the lodge maintained . He would couple with the toast the names of the I . P . M . and their first Master , to whom they owed great respect and allegiance—Bro . Sco't , P . M . He had an interesting ceremony to perform in presenting to the I P . M . a jewel unanimously voted by the lodge . All the preceding Past Masters had been weU and worthily entitled to the jewel ; but no P . M . was more entitled to it than the I P . M ., who , as a young Alison , had worked hard and mad : great progress .

lire . I . W . Mogiord , I . P . M ., returned thanks , and said he hoped he had succeeded in following the example set by the Past Misters . He thanked the officers for their suppjrt , for he hid been heartily supported by all , and hoped they would do the same for the present W . M . He intended going up as a Steward for the Boys' School , and hoped the members would again give tneir cordial assistance . Bro . C . Scott , P . M , also responded , and , as father of the lodge , expressed his delight at seeing his child growing so strong and well . He would continue to do his best lor it , and , although some of the Past Misters had surpassed him , yet none had a greater affection for the lodge .

Bro . W . J . Mason , P . P . G . D ., V .-Pres . B . of G . P ., replied for "The Visitors , " and said the meeting had recalled the pleasant experiences of a year ago , whei the I . P . M . was installed by his brother . He was delighted with his visit , for he wis always pleased to support unselfishness , tor Volunteers were unselfish , and Freemasons should be so . lie wished the lodge God-speed , and hoped it would maintain its

reputation for hospitality and good working . Bros . Dehane , P . P . G . D ., and Ashby , N . Z ., also replied . 0 : her toasts were given before the pleasant proceedings were brought to a close . Bro . C E . Cowtan , Org ., presided over the musicil acrangements , and was assisted by Mus Helen Saunders , Miss Emily Waters , Miss Nar . cv Miller , Mr , W , E . KUser , and H . Walter , and Bro . t ' red Isaac .
