Lewis , I . P . M ., said it was then his privilege arid pleasure for the first time to propose " The Health of the VV . M . " In Bro . Adams they had a Master who would

be able to cope with any little difficulty that might arise , and efficiently occupy the chair . Their W . M . had taken great interest in Freemasonry , had served as Steward for the Charities , and had the welfare of the Iodge at heart , lie hoped the members would give Bro . Adams an opportunity of distinguishing himself by bringing in candidates , and wished their W . M . a happy and prosperous year of office .

Bro . J . E . Adams , W . M ., in reply , said that it was with some diffidence that he rose to respond for the very hearty reception accorded the toast . They could , however , imagine it was with great pride that he had arrived at the chair in the Skelmersdale Lodge . He felt he had deserved the respect of the Past Masters , officers , and brethren , and by his working had honourably attained the position . The

I . P . M . had set him a good example , and had enforced a rule which had happily prevailed in their lodge that every uccupant of the chair should deserve it . He felt that he ( the W . M . ) had deserved the honour , as he had endeavoured to the best of his ability to fulfil every condition laid down by the Past Masters . He was grateful indeed that the members had thought him worthy of election , and in

occupying the chair he felt he had a lustre to maintain . If he obtained the assistance of the Past Masters and officers during his year he would leave the chair with that lustre undimmed . He hoped to have an opportunity of displaying what ability he possessed in working the Three Degrees . The Worshipful Master then gave the next toast , " The Immediate Past Master , " and said it gave him peculiar

pleasure to do so , as he felt their esteemed Bro . Lewis had won the regard and affection of every member of the Iodge by the admirable manner in which he had sustained the working . They had had an example of what working should be , and in leaving the chair , the I . P . M . had left a record worthy of any Past Master . There was another pleasure he had , which showed that the lodge appreciated every one who occupied the chair , and performed his work

to their satisfaction . He had to present a Past Master ' s jewel to Bro . Lewis , the inscription on which was peculiarly appropriate , as it signified that the presentation was made for the able and efficient manner in which he had presided as VV . M . The jewel carried with it the esteem and respect nf every member , and they all wished Bro . Lewis long life to wear it , and a continuance of his support to Freemasonry , which he loved so well .

Uro . F . A . Lewis , I . P . M ., said he could not express all lie felt for the manner in which the Nattering remarks of the W . M . had been received . During his Mastership he had endeavoured u > carry ou ; the duties to the best of his ability and promote the interests of the lodge . He thanked them ill for the kind manner in which they had overlooked his failings , and for the irreat suoiiort rendered bv the members

and the ollicers , fur if a VV . M . was ever so efficient , that was useless unless he was suppoited by the officers . He had to thank them for the handsome Past Master ' s jewel presented to hiin , which he should ever value . as a token of regard and respect from the members , and as a memento [ 'f his year of office , which had in every respect been a most happy one . Uro . VV . H . LeeP . P . G . D . Middx ., acknowledged the
