The brethren afterwards sat down to a capital dinner , when the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Bro . Lennox Browne , in proposing "The Health of the Worshipful Master , " reminded the brethren that it was the last time he would preside at the festive board , and

therefore the toast should be drunk with more than usual enthusiasm , for Bro . Belgrave Ninnis was not only a distinguished Mason holding at the present time an important oflice in Grand Lodge , but was an ornament to the medical department of the service he belonged to , having served his Queen faithfully in nearly every part of the world , and one special service should not be forgotten , viz ., when Bro . Ninnis went through the adventurous Arctic Expedition ,

under the command of Sir George Nares , K . C . B ., F . R . S . The Worshipful Master , in replying , thanked the brethren for the very kind and cordial manner in which they had drunk his health , and said he would like to apologise for not attending to his duties more , but pleaded the exigency of the service he belonged to as an excuse . He

complimented the officers upon the efficient manner they had performed their duties , and said with such officers the task of W . M . was an easy one . He concluded by praising the lodge on being so fortunate as to have such an excellent Mason as Bro . Pocock for their W . M ., and felt sure that there was nothing but prosperity before the lodge when such Masons ruled over it .

evening . Bro . Whitaker , P . M . 1302 , P . P . G . D ., also responded , and referred to the hearty welcome the visitors had received . CHORLTON-CUM-HARDY . Choi'lton Lodge ( No . 1387 ) . —Theannual installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , High-lane , on the 13 th inst . There was great interest manifested on this occasion , it being the 21 st year of its existence , and , moreover , by the fact , the W . M . elect , Bro . Harry Hector Martyne , is such a favourite with all the

brethren , and has been such a zealous worker in the lodge for many years , having filled every oflice . There was a very large assembly of brethren , numbering about 79 present , as well as a large number of regrets , not being able to be present through some cause . When the brethren had placed themselves in the lodge , it was opened by Bro . F . S . Bedford , W . M ., and the

minutes of the last regular meeting were read and conlirmd . Bro . F . S . Bedford , the Installing Master , then appointed as his Installing Officers : Bros . | J . Lambert , P . M ., P . P . G . The Auditors' report of the Treasurer ' s account was presented and adopted , and they seemed to be in a very satisfactory manner , there being a considerable balance in the bank . Before the lodge was closed , the I . P . M ., Bro . Bedford , presented to the lodge a complete triangle , of oak and beautifully mounted with brass , with

windlass , pulley , and ashlar complete . He wished to commemorate his year of office by so doing , and begged of them to accept it . The present was graciously accepted by Bro . H . Martyne , VV . M ., for the lodge . After all business had been attended to , and " Hearty good wishes " had been expressed from the Provincial and other lodges , the lodge was closed .

Subsequently a banquet was held , at which the loyal and Masonic toasts were given and responded to . Bro . J . J . Lambert , P . P . G . Reg ., in very eloquent and ( lowing terms proposed the toast of "TheVV . M ., " and said that they had that day selected the right brother to preside over the lodge , more especially as it was the majority , and assured Bro . Harry Hector Martyne , W . M .,

that all the brethren had perfect confidence in him , and he wished him every success during his year of office . Bro . H . H . Martyne rose to respond amidst great applause . He said he really felt that was the proudest moment of his life , and he always felt that it was a very high office to aspire to , more especially as it was his mother lodge . He was very grateful and pleased to think that his

conduct had been such as had got him eventually to that high post . If he were to talk for a month he could not express to them all he felt . He looked upon Masonry as his religion , and he trusted that his conduct whilst in the chair would merit the confidence they had reposed in him . The toast of "The I . P . M . " was proposed by the Worshipful Master , and was received well , and duly responded to , as were others .

M ., and the minutes having been confirmed , Bro . J . N . de la Verrelle , 5 S 9 , was balloted for as a joining member and unanimously elected , after which

Bro . h . W . Newenham was passed to the I ' . C . Degree . Bro . Dr . John Le Cronier , D . P . G . M ., then occupied the chair , and in a very able manner installed Bro . Dr . Maxwell Le Cronier , S . W , VV . M . elect . The installation ceremony was the more impressive by the fact that it was the father who was installing his son as Master of the lodge , a circumstance which seldom occurs in the annals of Freemasonry .

Both the Installing Master and the W . M . elect showed the utmost appreciation of the solemnity of the ceremony in which they were the chief actors . The brethren present were greatly impressed by the masterly manner in which the Installing Master discharged his duties , the more so on account of the great respect in which he is held by all the brethren of the province .

The newly-installed Master then proceeded to invest Bro . Capt . H . Stevenson as I . P . M ., and gave the explanation of the Past Master ' s jewel in such an efficient manner that it proved him to be thoroughly prepared for the position he now occupied . The Board of installed Masters , of whom no fewer than 211 were present , having been closed , the brethren were re-admitted , and the W . M . invested his

officers j the charge to the Wardens and the final charge to the brethren being eloquently delivered by the Installing Master . The following officers were aj > poinled : Bros . C . E . the evening , amongst whom we noticed Bros . Spratt , McKee , Brodhurst , Stevenson , Bisson , and Wilson , whilst Bro . Fentum kindly accompanied them on the piano . Special mention must be made with regard to Iiro . Spratt's ( a visiting brother from England ) magnificent voice . The T y ler ' s toast terminated a most enjoyable and thoroughly harmonious meeting .

evening . Bro . Whitaker , P . M . 1302 , P . P . G . D ., also responded , and referred to the hearty welcome the visitors had received . He also contrasted the careful rendering of the ceremonies in the lodge with the somewhat loose manner of the working he remembered in many lodges in bygone days .

H . Martyne , VV . that all the brethren had perfect confidence in him , and he wished him every success during his year of office . Bro . H .
