The procession as it moved in stately style up the slop ? to the church was watched with great interest by the crowds on either side , many of whoii had probably never seen anything of the kind before . The building was filling rapidly before the arrival of the Masons , whosa seats were reserved in the centre

of the church , and as the last sword bearers filed in they were followed by throngs of the general public who continued to pass in for some minutes until all the available seating accommodation was taken up . Prior to and while the procession was entering , the organist for the occasion , Mr . T . Normandale ( brother of Mr . W . G . Normandale ) , organist at St . John ' s , Needham Market , and formerly the same at St . Mary le Tower , Ipswich , had played several selections . Then the organ burst forth with the strains of " God save the Qzezn , " the congregation rising and remaining standing until it was concluded and the service commenced .

The sermon was preached by the Rev . J . S . MUNDAY , whose text was " I will lay my foundation with sapphire . " He took the sapphire as an emblem of love , which was a permanent virtue amongst Masons . The Chief Corner Stone , Christ , bound them together in love , and so it was in connection with the stone they were that day laying . It vvas this love which had called them together , not only to take part in a work of restoration , but to exhibit it to him , their beloved Provincial Grand Master , whom this sapphire adorned , ar . d whose presence called forth its reflection from all his humbler brethren . The D . P . G . M . then pronounced the Patriarchal Benediction .

The hymn , " Now thank we all our God , " joined in by the large assembly , concluded the proceedings here . Though the weather was throughout the day threatening ' , it remained finethe leaden clouds did not break , the outdoor ceremony taking place amid outbursts of sunshine . The Masonic procession was reformed , and proceeded to the schoolroom , where the Prov . G . Lodge was then closed .

The day ' s pioceedings concluded with a cold collation at the Bull Hotel . Bro . " the Rev . C . J . Martyn , D . P . G . M ., presided , supported by Bros . Rev . 1 . G . Munday , P . G . C . ; C . The contributions announced from the various Suffolk lodges was headed by . £ 15 15 s . from the Stour Valley Lodge . The Virtue and Silence gave 10 guineas , and the Martyn Chapter 12 guineas , the whole of the day's proceeds , with the offertory and including promises amounting to about £ 100 .

N . Z . Three of tliere cases were deferred , and two dismissed . Ihu remainder were voted a total of ^ 515 . Three petitioners were recommended for the Grand Master's approval for £ . \ o each , and three for £ 30 each . Eleven petitioners were voted , £ 20 each , two £ 15 each , three £ 10 each , and one petitioner was relieved with . £ 5 . The Beard was closed before seven o ' clock .

When the lodge was closed , the members and visitors adj jurned to the Tamar Hotel , and partook ot a first-rate banquet , catered for by Bro . Herring . The customary loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , and a most pleasant evening was pa ? sed , the entertainment being enlivened with songs by Bros . Betty , Coath , Lakeman , Parker , and Walker , and some recititioT * by B .- < j . Siaiks . The jewels were manufactured by Bros . George Kenning and Son , and were beautiful soccimens of the silversmith's art .

Otherbusines 5 followed , aft'r which the lodge wis closed , and the brethren partook of a good banquet under the genial presidency of the W . M .

The W . M . gave the u-sual loyal and Masonic toasts in brief but eloquent terms . In submitting the toast of " The M . W . the Pro Grand Master , the Earl Amherst ; the R . W . the Dep . G . Master , the Earl of Warwick ; and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the VV . M . stated that they were honoured that evening with the attendance of Bro . J . D . Langton , P . Dep . G . D . C , who was well-known for the great interest he had taken in the Craft , and the memb ~ r .- appreciate ! the compliment of his coming there , and lie had much pleasure in associating his name with the toast .

Bro . J . D . Langton , P . Dep . G . D . C ., responded , remarking that it was a kind meaning toast , and was always well received . The Grand Ofiicers found sometimes work to do in the Craf , * , and Bro . Sir John Monckton would have been present that evening , but he was engaged eUewhere at the consecration of a new lodge . Ue ( Bro . Langton ) was glad to be there , as he felt quite at horn * in Surrey . He congratulated the W . M . on his position and the Installing Master , Bro . Hoult Horton , for the excellent way he had installed his successor .

The VV . M . proposed " I'he M . W . thc Prov . G . M ., the Earl of Onslow ; tha VV . Dep . G . M ., and the Prov . ( irand Ollicers , Present and Past , " and said he regretted the absence of Bros . Lord Onslow and Fred West , but they were honoured with tht presc . ee of Bro . James H . Hawkins , Prov . G . D . C , who was one of the Consecration Ollicers at the consecration of the lodge , and he coupled his name and that of Bro . J . J . Ross . P . P . S . G . W . Cornwall , with the toast .

In response , Bro . James H . Hawkins stated that it was a great compliment to have his name associated with the toast . He had had the honour of serving under three Grand Masters of the province , and he was satisfied that the present Prov . Grand Master was the best . He felt that the members of the Albany Lodge appreciated the Grand Ofiicers of the province . The lodge had a great future before it , and they had the best wishes of all the Prcv . Grand Ofiicers for its prosperity .

Bro . J . J . Koss alto acknowledged the toast , observing that he had , not the honour of belonging to the province . He had witnessed many installations , but had never seen the working done better , and if such work continued the future ot the lodge must be a great success . He was indebted to the S . W . for a very pleasant evening , and one that he should long remember . Bro . S . Hoult Horton , I . P . M ., on rising to propose " The Worshipful Master , Bro .

G . A . Petter , was received with much warmth . He said it was bis pleasing duty and privilege to submit the most important toast oi the evening , and one that would be received with acclamation . lie could dwell at length upon the qualifications of the W . M ., but time would not peirnit . I he VV . M . was the principal founder of the lodge , and a good Mason , and it was a pleasure to instal such a kind friend . They were all delighted to see hirn in the chair , and he felt he was expressing the sentiments of them all in wishing him every prosperity and happiness during his year of office .

Bro . (» . A . Petter , W . M ., who was received with enthusiasm , responded , thinking them for the kind manner the toast was received . It was a great honour and pleasure to Mm to hold the position of Master of such a good lodge ; but he was beginning to realise the dillicult task he had in following such a good man as his predecessor , liro .

The installation meeting took place on the Gth inst ., when about 40 members of the Order assembled to do honour to the occasion , and the Board of Installed Masters consisted of 12 distinguished brethren . When the lodge was closed , the members and visitors adj jurned to the Tamar Hotel , and partook ot a first-rate banquet , catered for by Bro . Herring . The customary loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , and a most pleasant evening was pa ? sed , the entertainment being enlivened with songs by Bros . Betty , Coath , Lakeman , Parker , and Walker , and some recititioT * by B .- < j . Siaiks . The jewels were manufactured by Bros . George Kenning and Son , and were beautiful soccimens of the silversmith's art .

The lodge having been opened , a dispensation from the Prov . G .. Lodge allowing the installation meeting to bi held that evening was read , after which the minutes of the last lodge meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . G . A . Petter , the W . M . elect , was then presented by Bro . G . R . Scott , P . M ., and installed into the chair by the outgoing Master , Bro . S . Hoult Horton , in a most exemplary manner . The newly-installed W . Honlt Horton , G . R . Scott , P . M . ; and C T . Tyler , Prcv . G . Sec , and Bro . Houh Morton is to bi congratulated on the efficient manner in which he carriid out the installation ceremony , and he closed his career with edit . Otherbusines 5 followed , aft'r which the lodge wis closed , and the brethren partook of a good banquet under the genial presidency of the W . M .

The W . M . gave the u-sual loyal and Masonic toasts in brief but eloquent terms . In submitting the toast of " The M . W . the Pro Grand Master , the Earl Amherst ; the R . W . the Dep . G . Master , the Earl of Warwick ; and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the VV . M . stated that they were honoured that evening with the attendance of Bro . J . D . Langton , P . Dep . G . D . C , who was well-known for the great interest he had taken in the Craft , and the memb ~ r .- appreciate ! the compliment of his coming there , and lie had much pleasure in associating his name with the toast .

Bro . J . D . Langton , P . Dep . G . D . C ., responded , remarking that it was a kind meaning toast , and was always well received . The Grand Ofiicers found sometimes work to do in the Craf , * , and Bro . Sir John Monckton would have been present that evening , but he was engaged eUewhere at the consecration of a new lodge . Ue ( Bro . Langton ) was glad to be there , as he felt quite at horn * in Surrey . He congratulated the W . M . on his position and the Installing Master , Bro . Hoult Horton , for the excellent way he had installed his successor .

The VV . M . proposed " I'he M . W . thc Prov . G . M ., the Earl of Onslow ; tha VV . Dep . G . M ., and the Prov . ( irand Ollicers , Present and Past , " and said he regretted the absence of Bros . Lord Onslow and Fred West , but they were honoured with tht presc . ee of Bro . James H . Hawkins , Prov . G . D . C , who was one of the Consecration Ollicers at the consecration of the lodge , and he coupled his name and that of Bro . J . J . Ross . P . P . S . G . W . Cornwall , with the toast .

In response , Bro . James H . Hawkins stated that it was a great compliment to have his name associated with the toast . He had had the honour of serving under three Grand Masters of the province , and he was satisfied that the present Prov . Grand Master was the best . He felt that the members of the Albany Lodge appreciated the Grand Ofiicers of the province . The lodge had a great future before it , and they had the best wishes of all the Prcv . Grand Ofiicers for its prosperity .

Bro . J . J . Koss alto acknowledged the toast , observing that he had , not the honour of belonging to the province . He had witnessed many installations , but had never seen the working done better , and if such work continued the future ot the lodge must be a great success . He was indebted to the S . W . for a very pleasant evening , and one that he should long remember . Bro . S . Hoult Horton , I . P . M ., on rising to propose " The Worshipful Master , Bro .

G . A . Petter , was received with much warmth . He said it was bis pleasing duty and privilege to submit the most important toast oi the evening , and one that would be received with acclamation . lie could dwell at length upon the qualifications of the W . M ., but time would not peirnit . I he VV . M . was the principal founder of the lodge , and a good Mason , and it was a pleasure to instal such a kind friend . They were all delighted to see hirn in the chair , and he felt he was expressing the sentiments of them all in wishing him every prosperity and happiness during his year of office .

Bro . (» . A . Petter , W . M ., who was received with enthusiasm , responded , thinking them for the kind manner the toast was received . It was a great honour and pleasure to Mm to hold the position of Master of such a good lodge ; but he was beginning to realise the dillicult task he had in following such a good man as his predecessor , liro .
