The lodge had shown their sympathy by forwarding to the funeral a
wreath , in reference to which the following letter had been received from Bro . Herbert Crossley , Sec . No . 61 : — " I carried the wreath myself , and placed it on the grave along with others which were sent . ... I cannot conclude without thanking the brethren of the Aire and Calder Lodge for their kind sympathy with the family of our late Bro . H . Edwards , I take it also as a compliment to the Lodge of
Probity , which owned Sir H . Edwards not only as a member , but a child . " Bro . R . Ward was admitted to the Degree of a F . C , the ceremony being performed by the W . M ., while Bro . Ives for his kindness and ability in performing the ceremony , especially as he was called upon at an hour ' s notice , owing to the V . W . D . P . G . M ., who was to have been Installing Master , not being able to reach Colchester in time . The thanks of the lodge were also given to Bro . Jas . Round , M . P ., for
kindly allowing the use of the room . Between 50 and 60 brethren afterwards dined together at the George Hotel , an elegant banquet being served by the new host , Mr . Morris . In replying to the toast of his health and that of " The Present and Past P . G . Officers , " the V . W . D . P . G . M ., Bro . Fred . A . Philbrick , Q . C , congratulated the brethren upon the prosperous condition of the Province of Essex . When
he first had the honour of being appointed D . P . G . M ., which was in the lifetime of the late Lord Tenterden , there were but 19 lodges ; now there were 24 on the roll , and he understood from their P . G . Sec that the warrant for a new lodge to meet at Halstead , and to be named the "Joshua Nunn , " had been received , and would shortly be consecrated . It was satisfactory to know that all the lodges
were doing good work for the Craft in Essex . It was only last Saturday that he was present at the installation meeting of one of the youngest of our lodges—the Tilbury—and he found there the true spirit of Masonry pervading the brethren . They had just removed their lodge into that magnificent hotel which had been erected in conjunction with the vast engineering undettaking of Tilbury Docks ,
which had brought the port of London into Essex . In conclusion , the V . VV . D . P . G . M . expressed his regret that he had been unable to reach Colchester in time to perform the installation ceremony ; and while thanking Bro . Ives for his kindness in acting as substitute , complimented him on being able at so short a notice to carry out the work . During the evening an excellent programme of vocal and
instrumental music was carried out by Bros . Osmond , Clowes , Sparling , and Coombs , assisted by Masters Nunn , Coombs , and Watts , the latter lad playing a very nice accompaniment to " La Serenata " on the violin . The Audit Committee met at two o ' clock , and the general meeting was called for three , by which time a large number of present and former members , together with many invited guests , had arrived . At five o'clock the brethren , to the number of nearly forty , sat down to a splendid banquet , served by Bro . Miller , the host . The newly installed W . M . presided , and

Upon the removal of the cloth , the VV . M . proposed the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , and a most enjoyable evening was spent , some music by an efficient band being a conspicuous feature .

C , congratulated the brethren upon the prosperous condition of the Province of Essex . When
he first had the honour of being appointed D . P . G . M ., which was in the lifetime of the late Lord Tenterden , there were but 19 lodges ; now there were 24 on the roll , and he understood from their P . G . Sec that the warrant for a new lodge to meet at Halstead , and to be named the "Joshua Nunn , " had been received , and would shortly be consecrated . It was satisfactory to know that all the lodges
were doing good work for the Craft in Essex . It was only last Saturday that he was present at the installation meeting of one of the youngest of our lodges—the Tilbury—and he found there the true spirit of Masonry pervading the brethren . They had just removed their lodge into that magnificent hotel which had been erected in conjunction with the vast engineering undettaking of Tilbury Docks ,
which had brought the port of London into Essex . In conclusion , the V . VV . D . P . G . M . expressed his regret that he had been unable to reach Colchester in time to perform the installation ceremony ; and while thanking Bro . Ives for his kindness in acting as substitute , complimented him on being able at so short a notice to carry out the work . During the evening an excellent programme of vocal and
