Master , who installed the W . M . elect in the chair of K . S ., the ceremony being conducted in that impressive and perfect manner for which that brother is noted . The W . Prust , as a token of the brethren ' s appreciation of his successful conduct of all the lodge affairs during his year of office ; although suffering

from ill health he was always at his post , and he trusted that T . G . A . O . T . U . might long spare him to wear it . Bro . A . T . Blarney was also presented with the clothing of a Prov . J . G . D ., Bro . J . Dodge making both presentations on behalf of the lodge in a happy speech , reviewing the abilities of the recipients . Bros . Prust and Blarney suitably replied . The excellent Treasurer , Bro . J . Dodge ,

presented his balance sheet , which was of a highly satisfactory character , and unanimously passed j the lodge in every respect being in an active and flourishing condition . Bro . John Lane was re-elected a representative on the Committee of Petitions . This concluding the business , the lodge was closed , and the brethren ajourned to the Royal Hotel for the annual

banquet . The toasts of "The Queen and Craft" and "The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , " were given by the W . M . with musical honours . "The Pro G . M ., the Deputy G . M ., and the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and "The Prov . G . M ., the D . P . G . M ., and the Prov . G . Officers , Present and Past , " were

also given by the W . M . The latter toast was responded to by Bro . A . T . Blarney , Prov . J . G . D ., in felicitous language . The toast of the evening— "The Newly-installed W . M . " —was given by Bro . J . Chapman , P . M ., P . P . J . G . D ., who pointed out that the W . M . had that evening been for the second time placed in the chair by the unanimous wish of

the brethren . The Worshipful Master suitably replied , saying that , as an advocate of temperance , his principles would not admit of his placing wines on the table . He therefore handed a cheque for five guineas to the Charity Steward ; and , with this as a text , Bro . John Lane , the Charity Steward , proposed the next

toast— "Success to the Masonic Charities "—in an able and eloquent speech . He earnestly pleaded the cause of the Masonic Charities , supplying an array of statistics and facts , which materially assisted to induce the brethren to add to the five guineas . The other toasts— "The Visitors , " "The Officers of the

Lodge , " and the Tyler ' s—brought a pleasant , social evening to a close . Some capital songs and solos were admirably rendered by the brethren and visitors during the evening , the musical portions of the proceedings being ably conducted by the Organist , Bro . T . Brooks .

PLUMSTEAD . —United Military Lodge ( No . ' 536 ) . —The usual monthly meeting of the above lodge took place on Friday , the 14 th inst ., at the Lord Raglan Hotel , Burrage-road . Bro . R . Gooding , I . P . M ., was in the chair , Bro . Lieut . T . Cooper , W . M ., being unable to attend .

The Iodge was opened , and the minutes of the previous meeting passed . The ballot was then taken for Staff-Sergt . Robert Inkerman Spence , Royal Artillery , and Sergt . Wm . Henry Manning , Ordinance Store Corps , and , proving unanimous , they were duly initiated . Bros . Thomas Rogers and Rovedina were passed , and the lodge was closed . The brethren having partaken of a handsomely served

dinner , re-assembled round the social board , and drank the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , and spent an hour or two in harmony . Among the other brethren present were Bros . Capt . W . The lodge was opened in due form by Bro . West , when the

minutes were read and confirmed . The lodge was opened in the Third Degree , and then closed down , some instructive and interesting remarks being made by Bro . John Lane on the method of closing from Second to Third Degree . Bro . Lane was also requested to give a mode of testing a strange brother , previous to his being admitted to a lodge , which he kindly did , to the profit of the brethren , and the lodge was closed .

STANMORE CHAPTER ( No . 1549 ) . —This chapter , which connects the members of the Abercorn Lodge , No . 1549 , and the Sub-Urban Lodge , No . 1702 , completed its ninth season very prosperously on the 12 th inst ., at the Abercorn Hotel , Great Stanmore , under the able guidance of the following companions , viz .: Comps .

The ballot having proved unanimous in favour of the following three candidates from the Abercorn Lodge , viz . : Bros . H . B . Weatherall , E . B . Weatherall , and G .

Sturman , they were all exalted to the Supreme Degree in a manner that reflected the greatest credit on every officer , and impressed each candidate with the utmost reverence for such a beautiful ceremony . The chapter was then closed , and all the companions adjourned to a most enjoyable dinner , which was fully appreciated .

The M . E . Z . very happily gave the customary toasts , which were in each case ably responded to , the Exaltees being loud in their praises and satisfaction . Several companions contributed to the harmony of the evening by song and recitation .

1 he companions adjourned until the second Wednesday in May , emergencies excepted , one of which will probably be held early in the New Year .

G . D ., Bro . J . Dodge making both presentations on behalf of the lodge in a happy speech , reviewing the abilities of the recipients . Bros . Prust and Blarney suitably replied . The excellent Treasurer , Bro . J . Dodge ,

presented his balance sheet , which was of a highly satisfactory character , and unanimously passed j the lodge in every respect being in an active and flourishing condition . Bro . John Lane was re-elected a representative on the Committee of Petitions . This concluding the business , the lodge was closed , and the brethren ajourned to the Royal Hotel for the annual

banquet . The toasts of "The Queen and Craft" and "The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , " were given by the W . M . with musical honours . "The Pro G . M ., the Deputy G . M ., and the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and "The Prov . G . M ., the D . P . G . M ., and the Prov . G . Officers , Present and Past , " were

also given by the W . M . The latter toast was responded to by Bro . A . T . Blarney , Prov . J . G . D ., in felicitous language . The toast of the evening— "The Newly-installed W . M . " —was given by Bro . J . Chapman , P . M ., P . P . J . G . D ., who pointed out that the W . M . had that evening been for the second time placed in the chair by the unanimous wish of

the brethren . The Worshipful Master suitably replied , saying that , as an advocate of temperance , his principles would not admit of his placing wines on the table . He therefore handed a cheque for five guineas to the Charity Steward ; and , with this as a text , Bro . John Lane , the Charity Steward , proposed the next

toast— "Success to the Masonic Charities "—in an able and eloquent speech . He earnestly pleaded the cause of the Masonic Charities , supplying an array of statistics and facts , which materially assisted to induce the brethren to add to the five guineas . The other toasts— "The Visitors , " "The Officers of the

Lodge , " and the Tyler ' s—brought a pleasant , social evening to a close . Some capital songs and solos were admirably rendered by the brethren and visitors during the evening , the musical portions of the proceedings being ably conducted by the Organist , Bro . T . Brooks .

PLUMSTEAD . —United Military Lodge ( No . ' 536 ) . —The usual monthly meeting of the above lodge took place on Friday , the 14 th inst ., at the Lord Raglan Hotel , Burrage-road . Bro . R . Gooding , I . P . M ., was in the chair , Bro . Lieut . T . Cooper , W . M ., being unable to attend .

The Iodge was opened , and the minutes of the previous meeting passed . The ballot was then taken for Staff-Sergt . Robert Inkerman Spence , Royal Artillery , and Sergt . Wm . Henry Manning , Ordinance Store Corps , and , proving unanimous , they were duly initiated . Bros . Thomas Rogers and Rovedina were passed , and the lodge was closed . The M . E . Z . very happily gave the customary toasts , which were in each case ably responded to , the Exaltees being loud in their praises and satisfaction . Several companions contributed to the harmony of the evening by song and recitation .

1 he companions adjourned until the second Wednesday in May , emergencies excepted , one of which will probably be held early in the New Year .

S 1 AR CHAPTER ( No . 127 J ) . —The usual weekly meeting of this chapter was held on Friday , the 14 th inst ., at the Stirling Castle , Church-street , Camberwell . There were present Comps . T . Grummant , P . Z ., M . E . Z . ; F . Hilton , P . Z ., H . and Preceptor ; Briant , J . ; C . H . Stone , S . N . I 2 7 S , S . E . ; H . Martin , S . N . ; R . L , £ , '„ 4 Addington , H . 127 s ; V . T . Murche , R . Davis , and C . Woods .

fhe minutes of the last convocation were read and confirmed . The ceremony of exaltation was rehearsed , Comp . Addington , H . 1275 , personating candidate . The M . E . Z . rose for the first time , and the dues were collected . The M . E . Z . rose for the second time , and Comp . F . Hilton , P . Z .. H . and Preceptor , was unanimously elected to occupy the chair at the next meeting . Comp . Hilton returned thanks , and appointed his officers in rotation . Nothing more presenting itself for the good of R . A . Masonry , the chapter was closed . r
