the Sublime Degree , and Bro . Eugene Albert Serre was initiated , and the proceedings in lodge , after some further necessary business , soon afterwards terminated . The brethren adjourned to Freemasons' Tavern to banquet , and a most enjoyable evening was passed . Bro . Potter , in proposing " The Health of the Queen , " remarked that , while he did not wish to enlarge unduly on
the toast , he could not help drawing the brethren ' s attention to the length and beneficence of her reign , to the mighty empire that girdled the earth , and to the varied millions of people who looked to her for countenance and support . In proposing " The M . W . G M ., " Bro . Potter desired it to be known that not only did he strive for the good of the Craft , but he was showing them that good works could and ought to be sought for and done outside the lodge as well
as in benefiting the Masonic Charities , though , no doubt , they at times needed all their aid and influence . The Initiate , in a neat speech , in response to the toast of his health ( as usual , very warmly drank ) , expressed his desire to be a good and zealous fellow worker in Masonry , saying he had himself been struck by learning how much Masons did for one another in their three Charities . The toast of " The Visitors " was replied to by a number of brethren .
Bro . Dodd , P . M ., said it vvas a great pleasure for him at all times to come amongst Masons of whom he thought he might claim to be one of the oldest there . Especially , however , did he like to attend the meetings of that lodge , as on every occasion of doing so ( and he came often among them ) , he found in the lodge some good work going on , matters of sympathy and Masonic affection , and at the
banquet table that perfect freedom of hospitality and good fellowship that is only to be found in the Craft . Bro . P . E . Clunn , in responding , thanked the W . M . for alluding to his partner , the late lamented Bro . Frank Tayler , C . C . The lodge had lost in him a true and valued brother . He had lost the friend and companion of a lifetime . Not only had they been associated in business , but
had been schoolboys together , and in later years had been partners and also Masons . His loss vvas gr *; at , but he felt that Bro . Tayler ' s had been a well-spent life that would not be without its reward in the sight of the G . A . O . T . U . In the course of the evening some songs and recitations by the brethren diversified the proceedings , and the usual toast for those distressed terminated one of the customary pleasant banquets of this deservedly popular lodge .

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.
A letter from Bro . W . C . Page , P . M ., vvas read , resigning his membership , which was received with very great regret . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to a superb banquet , which was prepared by Mrs . Venables in her best style , and gave every satisfaction . On the removal of the cloth the VV . M . gave the usual loyal and Alasonic toastswhich were cordially received .
, Bro . Martin , I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the VV . M ., " stated that he wished him a happy and prosperous year of ofiice . He had had the honour of proposing him as a member of the lod ge . He ( the VV . AL ) was perfect in the working of every ofiice , and he felt sure that he would do everything to make the lodge a success . He was loved by all the members for his exemnlarv conduct , and it was
impossible to have a better W . M . The toast vvas drunk with great enthusiasm , and Bro . Pullen on rising to respond received an ovation , and it vvas a few minutes before he was able to reply , when he thanked the members for their very flattering reception . He had looked forward to that night for some time , but did not anticipate the manner in which he had been received . He
was initiated by their energetic Secretary , Bro . Loader , P . M ., and the splendid rendering of his initiation made such an impression upon him that he would never forget , but at that time he thought that he would never be able to carry out the duties of a VV . M ., but having attained that position he would do his utmost to make the lodge a great success . He was proud to be a member of tlie Rose Lodge ,
and he was more so now he vvas Master . As the Past Masters had placed him in that position he hoped to carry out the duties efficiently , as they were good enough to think he would , or it would have been their duty to have passed him over until they vvere satisfied that he was able to keep up the reputation of the lodge for its good working . In giving the toast of " The Visitors , " the W . M .
remarked that they were always received there with great cordiality and pleasure , that he had heard it stated that when a member visited the lodge for the first time he wanted to come again . They had some distinguished ones that evening , and he gave them all a hearty welcome . Bro . Von Holtoff , in reply , stated that this was an occasion he had looked forward to for many years . He had
always received every kindness , and he had watched the W . M . step b y step in the lodge , and he vvas more than gratified by his work , and he congratulated him on obtaining that exalted position , and in conclusion remarked that the ceremony performed by the LP . M . was second to none . Bro . Wishart , P . M ., also replied . He was presentat the Worshipful Master ' s initiation . He had to go to Malta , but
postponed his departure in order to see the Worshipful Master installed , and he was pleased to be there that evening . Bro . Cox , P . M ., in an able speech , stated that he had known the W . M . some years . The working that evening was excellent , and it was always so in the Rose Lodge . Bro . Rev . O . Brian , also replied . In verv eloquent
terms he stated that he could not do adequate justice , to the toast . What he had seen and heard that night would leave a memory that he could never efface . He felt sure that he was a better man since he became a Mason . The Worshipful Master ' s bearing in the chair , and the cool manner in vvhich he had conducted the business of the evening vvas admirable .
The Worshipful Master , in proposing " The Health of the Past Masters , " said that the the Lodge would not be the success that it was if the Past Alasters had not acted in unity and the credit of its prosperity was due to them . The I . P . M . had kept up the prestige of the lodge . The W . M . then presented him a Past Master ' s jewel vvhich he richly deserved , as no Master had ever done more for the
lodge . If he ( the VV . M . ) could only follow in his footsteps he would be more than satisfied . Bra . Martin , I . P . M ., heartily thanked the members for the jewel and the W . M . for the kind things he had said of him . He tried his utmost to do his best while the W . M ., and he was gratified to find that he had given satisfaction to them all . This to him was a red-letter day . He vvas
proud to say that during his term of office the Rose Chapter was formed , vvhich was a great success . In conclusion he stated that he would continue to do all he could for the welfare of the lodge . Bro . Hilton , P . M ., also replied . The members always honoured the toast of the Past Alasters . He was glad he had had the honour of introducing Bro . Martin , I . P . M ., who had more than done his duty . If they , the Past
Masters were ever called upon to do anything they would do it cheerfully . The Worshipful Master , in giving the toast of "The Health of the Treasurer and Secretary , " stated that he regretted that the former , Bro . Kirby , vvas ill , and not able to be present , but he was sure he vvas there in spirit . They were both efficient and indefatigable officers ; that what
they had partaken of the Secretary had arra . iged , and it hael been an excellent repast , and he deserved their best thanks . Bro . Loader , P . AL , responded . He felt somewhat lost in the absence of his old friend , Bro . Kirby . He hoped to continue in the same lines as he had always done . His heart was in the Rose Lodge , which was his mother lodge ,
and he was one of the first initiates who had been through the chair . The next toast vvas " The Officers , " to vvhich Bros . Derham and Pickett replied in suitable terms . Tbe Tyler ' s toast closed a very happy and pleasant
evening . Thc musical arrangements vvere carried out under the able direction of Bro . Choveaux , Org ., assisted by the exquisite sinking of the following artistes : M ss Julia Jones , Miss Edith Gibbs , and Bros . Frank Swinford and Ernest Smith .

the Sublime Degree , and Bro .
