AL , vvas elected to represent the lodge on the Essex Charity Committee . The VV . M . has been elected to serve as Steward from the lodge on behalf of the Royal A'Ias . onic Institution

D ., replied for the toast of "The Deputy Provincial Grand Master and the Provincial Grand
Officers , Present and Past , " and thanked the VV . M . personally for the compliment paid him . It vvas the first opportunity he had had in that lodge of returning thanks as a Provincial Grand Officer . They all regretted the absence of the Deputy Prov . G . M ., Bro . Philbrick , and deeply deplored the lamentable circumstances vvhich prevented his attendance . There were in the Warner Lodge worthy and
distinguished brethren who held high Provincial rank , including Bro . Courtenay Warner , P . P . S . G . W ., after whom the lodge was named . There was in that lodge a grand field for Provincial Grand Lodge to choose its ofiicers from , and from what they had seen of the working of the P . M . and l . PM ., there was good ground for anticipating that the Warner Lodge would not be forgotten .
Bro . J . J . Briginshaw , I . P . M ., said he felt honoured in having to propose the next toast—that of " The Worshipful Alaster . " From what he had seen of Bro . Speller ' s working , they could anticipate a very successful year of office for him . He congratulated the W . M . very heartily , for he was the right man in the right place , and had every desire to make the lodge during his year a great success .
Bro . James Speller , W . M ., in response , said he was very sensible of the great honour conferred upon him by unanimously electing and installing him as VV . AI . He had reached the height of his ambition and attained the proud position for vvhich he had craved for 12 or 13 years . He hoped the Great Architect would give him power to carry out the duties to the satisfaction of the brethren and the
success of the lodge . He begged them to accept his hearty thanks for the very cordial way in vvhich they had received the toast . The Worshipful Alaster , in a felicitous speech , next proposed "The Installing Alaster and Past Alasters , " and presented Bro . Briginshaw , LP . AL , vvith a handsome Past Masters jewel in recognition of his services during the past
year . Bro . J . J . Briginshaw . LP . AL , returned sincere thanks for the reception accorded the toast and for the kind support of the brethren during his occupancy of the chair . Bro . Courtenay Warner , P . P . S . G . W ., said this lodge was one of the things he had been connected with in life that had proved most successful . He never regretted the day he became a Mason with the object of joining this lodge as soon as it was started . He thought the lodge had
a brilliant future before it and should always do vvhat he could to advance its interest . Bro . Jackson , P . P . G . D ., also replied , after which other toasts were given and a highly successful gathering terminated vvith the Tyler's toast . During the evening Bros . Fred ( Stephens , A . Ramsden , P . AL , P . G . Reg ., the ceremony was performed by Bro . Charles Rayner , P . AL ,
P . P . G . D . C . After the ceremony , the VV . AI . announced the next business , vvhich was a vote of condolence to the widow and family of the late Bro . Joseph Brook , J . W . Bro . Rayner rose and said that under these mournful circumstances , he assured them that it was with feelings of the deepest sorrow that he took upon himselt to propose that vote ot condolence . He felt it all the more on account of
the pleasant afternoon he and the late brother had spent together on the day of the sad accident , which caused his death , and also on account of the fact that in two minutes' time after he left him that evening the accident must have occurred—a very sad thing to think of . With regard to their brother ' s Alasonry , he knew that he was a Alason at heart . He should never forget the enthusiasm he
displayed that afternoon at the prospects he had before him during the next two years in preparing himself for the performance of the duties of the W . AI . He did not know that he had anything more to say , only formally to propose that a letter of condolence be written and s ; nt to the widow and family of their lamented late J . VV . The motion was feelingly seconded by a friend of the family , Bro . J . Goodwin , and carried unanimously . The ordinary business of the
lodge having been transacted , the lodge was closed . T he accident was caused by his being thrown out of . his conveyance in driving home alter a visit to Aleltham to spend an hour with a friend . distinguished brethren who held high Provincial rank , including Bro .
AI .
