for Burma of the Ars Quatuor Coronati Lodge in England , and in March last , at a special Convocation of District Grand Mark Lodge , he was also recommended and elected for appointment as District Grand Mark Master for Burma . R . W . Bro . Moyle ' s installation took place at a special Communication of the District Grand Lodge , which was held in Rangoon , on the 28 th ultimo .

The minutes of previous meeting having been read and confirmed , Bro . VVm . E . Lambert was raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M . Bro . Montague John Robinson ( of St . John Lodge , No . 174 , Leichhardt , Sydney , New South Wales ) was balloted for as a joining member , and unanimously elected . A ballot was then taken for Mr . Anthony Percival , and , being unanimous in his favour , he was there and then initiated into the earlier mysteries of Freemasonry . Lodge having been closed , the customary banquet followed at the adjoining Freemasons' Tavern .

Bro . Harold Griffiths , S . W . and Master elect , was very ably installed in the chair of King Solomon by the retiring Master . Tbe addresses were given by Bros . T . A . Hill , E . D . Frost , and T . Cookes . After the lodge was closed , Bro . the Rev . H . W . Turner , M . A ., P . M ., P . P . G . C , Treas ., presented Bro . Tom Cookes , I . P . M ., with a handsome silver tray , weighing 176 ozs ., highly chased , on behalf of many members of the lodge and some other personal friends . In making the presentation , Bro . Turner asked the I . P . M . to accept it
as a mark of the gratitude and affection which he had won by the ability , and courtesy and generosity which he had displayed during his occupation of thc chair in the lodge ' s first session in the new Masonic Hall . Bro . Cookes , with much feeling , made a brief , but grateful , response . The brethren afterwards dined together , the repast being prepared by the Sutton Masonic Hall Company , Limited , which , with the exception of long delays between the courses , gave pretty general satisfaction .
The musical entertainment , for which this lodge is so justly noted , was hardly up to the usual high standard of efficiency . Bros . R . J . Ward , J . H . Osman , J . J . S . Forrester , and others took part in the programme .

M ., on " Reasons why in the First Degree , " which was listened to with marked attention , and at the close a vote of thanks was proposed by Bro . Loomes , P . M ., and seconded by Bro . Harding , P . M ., which was carried unanimously , and Bro . Coxon was _ asked to complete the subject in a further paper . After communications had been considered , the lodge was closed . The brethren having dined , the usual toasts were proposed .

M . rising the third time and asking the usual questions , Bro . Wm . Cowley , P . M ., and late Treasurer , rose in response , and said that there was a brother present in the lodge and connected with it for over 22 years , who had a record which could scarcely have been beaten for regularity and punctuality . He had held every office in the lodge and for the last 11 years had filled the onerous position of Secretary . He was a Secretary
among Secretaries whose faithfulness and perseverance could not be exceeded , and was ever ready to assist all who sought his guidance . He was most assiduous in his duties , and to show their hearty appreciation of his indefatigable exertions a large number of th : brethren had subscribed , and they were enabled to purchase a testimonial , which consisted of a solid silver candelabra and dessert centre dish combined , and a silver tea service with tray for Mrs . Grummant . It was thought that was the most suitable iimi lo present it , being a ladies' night , and Bro . Cowley hoped that the same would hi
handed down to his children as an heirloom , and show to his famil y the love and esteem in which he was held . He would move tbe following proposition : " That the best thanks of the brethren be given to Bro . Thos . Grummant , P . M ., Sec , for the able services rendered to the Iodge as Secretary for the last 11 years . " This was ably seconded by Bro . E . H . Thiellay , P . M ., and founder of the lodge . Bro . J . D . Graham , PM ., endorsed all that had been said . Bro . A . Cogliati also abl y supported the resolution . In making the presentation , Bro . VV . Menninger , W . M ,, said it afforded him the greatest
possible pleasure , and to show the high opinion he was held in by the brethren ot tne lodge , and to mark their appreciation for many years' faithful service , he asked his acceptance of the testimonial . Also to Mrs . Grummant the silver tea service and tray as a little compensation to her for the many kindnesses which were bestowed on and for the welfare of the New Cross Lodge . The inscription was as follows : " Presented to Thomas Grummant , P . M . and Secy ., by the members of the New Cross Lodge , 1559-in recognition of his many years' valuable services . He was particularly pleased that the brethren had thought of his dear wife , who had been his solace for 33 years . There were times when speech failed one , and the present was so to him , Ior the splendid gift had taken him entirely by surprise . He had not heard a single word in ref rence to it . He had heard it said of a to
great king— " To reign in the . hearts and affections of his people was more grateful a generous mind than to reign over their lives and fortunes , " He might say it was so with him , for he had every confidence that he reigned in the hearts and affections of the brethren of the New Cross Lodge . M ., with a handsome silver tray , weighing 176 ozs ., highly chased , on behalf of many members of the lodge and some other personal friends . In making the presentation , Bro . Turner asked the I . P . M . to accept it
as a mark of the gratitude and affection which he had won by the ability , and courtesy and generosity which he had displayed during his occupation of thc chair in the lodge ' s first session in the new Masonic Hall . Bro . Cookes , with much feeling , made a brief , but grateful , response . The brethren afterwards dined together , the repast being prepared by the Sutton Masonic Hall Company , Limited , which , with the exception of long delays between the courses , gave pretty general satisfaction .

M ., on " Reasons why in the First Degree , " which was listened to with marked attention , and at the close a vote of thanks was proposed by Bro . Loomes , P . M ., and seconded by Bro . M ., and late Treasurer , rose in response , and said that there was a brother present in the lodge and connected with it for over 22 years , who had a record which could scarcely have been beaten for regularity and punctuality . He had held every office in the lodge and for the last 11 years had filled the onerous position of Secretary . He was a Secretary
among Secretaries whose faithfulness and perseverance could not be exceeded , and was ever ready to assist all who sought his guidance . He was most assiduous in his duties , and to show their hearty appreciation of his indefatigable exertions a large number of th : brethren had subscribed , and they were enabled to purchase a testimonial , which consisted of a solid silver candelabra and dessert centre dish combined , and a silver tea service with tray for Mrs . Grummant . It was thought that was the most suitable iimi lo present it , being a ladies' night , and Bro . Cowley hoped that the same would hi
handed down to his children as an heirloom , and show to his famil y the love and esteem in which he was held . He would move tbe following proposition : " That the best thanks of the brethren be given to Bro . Thos . Grummant , P . M ., Sec , for the able services rendered to the Iodge as Secretary for the last 11 years . " This was ably seconded by Bro . E . H . Thiellay , P . M ., and founder of the lodge . Bro . J . D . possible pleasure , and to show the high opinion he was held in by the brethren ot tne lodge , and to mark their appreciation for many years' faithful service , he asked his acceptance of the testimonial . Also to Mrs . Grummant the silver tea service and tray as a little compensation to her for the many kindnesses which were bestowed on and for the welfare of the New Cross Lodge . Grum-, mant , who was quite overcome , said he could not find words to express his gratituie for such a presentation . He was particularly pleased that the brethren had thought of his dear wife , who had been his solace for 33 years . There were times when speech failed one , and the present was so to him , Ior the splendid gift had taken him entirely by surprise . He had not heard a single word in ref rence to it . He had heard it said of a to
great king— " To reign in the . hearts and affections of his people was more grateful a generous mind than to reign over their lives and fortunes , " He might say it was so with him , for he had every confidence that he reigned in the hearts and affections of the brethren of the New Cross Lodge .
