M . rising the third time and asking the usual questions , Bro . Wm . Cowley , P . M ., and late Treasurer , rose in response , and said that there was a brother present in the lodge and connected with it for over 22 years , who had a record which could scarcely have been beaten for regularity and punctuality . He had held every office in the lodge and for the last 11 years had filled the onerous position of Secretary . He was a Secretary

among Secretaries whose faithfulness and perseverance could not be exceeded , and was ever ready to assist all who sought his guidance . He was most assiduous in his duties , and to show their hearty appreciation of his indefatigable exertions a large number of th : brethren had subscribed , and they were enabled to purchase a testimonial , which consisted of a solid silver candelabra and dessert centre dish combined , and a silver tea service with tray for Mrs . Grummant . It was thought that was the most suitable iimi lo present it , being a ladies' night , and Bro . Cowley hoped that the same would hi

handed down to his children as an heirloom , and show to his famil y the love and esteem in which he was held . He would move tbe following proposition : " That the best thanks of the brethren be given to Bro . Thos . Grummant , P . M ,, said it afforded him the greatest

possible pleasure , and to show the high opinion he was held in by the brethren ot tne lodge , and to mark their appreciation for many years' faithful service , he asked his acceptance of the testimonial . Also to Mrs . Grummant the silver tea service and tray as a little compensation to her for the many kindnesses which were bestowed on and for the welfare of the New Cross Lodge . The inscription was as follows : " Presented to Thomas Grummant , P . M . and Secy ., by the members of the New Cross Lodge , 1559-in recognition of his many years' valuable services . Oct . 14 th 189 S . " Bro . T .

Grum-, mant , who was quite overcome , said he could not find words to express his gratituie for such a presentation . He was particularly pleased that the brethren had thought of his dear wife , who had been his solace for 33 years . There were times when speech failed one , and the present was so to him , Ior the splendid gift had taken him entirely by surprise . He had not heard a single word in ref rence to it . He had heard it said of a to

great king— " To reign in the . hearts and affections of his people was more grateful a generous mind than to reign over their lives and fortunes , " He might say it was so with him , for he had every confidence that he reigned in the hearts and affections of the brethren of the New Cross Lodge . He had had no time to frame a speech , but he most heartily thanked them for all their kindnesses . Two propositions were handed in lor initiation . .. .. ... to the

The business of the lodge ended , the brethien , with their ladies , adjourned banqueting hall to a recherche dinner , which was thoroughly appreciated . The W . M . presented the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , which were loyally responded to . , , ,, . ,, Bro . J . S . Targett , I . P . M ., next proposed the toast of " The Worship ful Master , and said that the gratitude of the brethren was due to him for the bringing together or such a company , and providing everything for their comfort . It would be a night long

M . rising the third time and asking the usual questions , Bro .

Also to Mrs . Grummant the silver tea service and tray as a little compensation to her for the many kindnesses which were bestowed on and for the welfare of the New Cross Lodge .

Two propositions were handed in lor initiation . .. .. ... to the
