Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Bro . Carlill Savill , in acknowledging the kind gift , stated that he had most cheerfully rendered what little services he could in connedion with the removal to new lodge premises . Of course , he desired more particularly to serve the interests of his own mother lodge j but , at the same time , he was very pleased to have been able to assist the brethren of ihe De La Pole . Their meetings had been

characterised with the greatest cordiality and unanimity , and he could only say that if it were necessary that the same amount of work should be requiredto be done again , he would gladly be at their disposal . He thanked the W . Master most sincerely for his kind sentiments and the beautiful jewel he had so generously presented to him as a souvenir of the occasion .

The jewel was specially manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , London . The brethren then adjourned to the large hall , where the annual banquet took place , presided over by the newlyinstalled W . M ., Bro . J . Bilson , who was supported by a brilliant company of Masons . The Worshipful Master , Bro . Jno . Bilson , submitted , in felicitous terms , the toast of " Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen and the Craft , " which was enthusiastically

received . The Worshipful Master , in proposing "The Health of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., with the other Members of the Royal Family , " eulogised the efforts made by the M . W . G . M . on behalf of the Craft , which were also well supported by other members of the Royal Family .

The next toast , which was duly honoured , was that of "The Rt . Hon . the Earl of Carnarvon , M . W . Pro Grand Master , the Right H m . the Earl of Lathom , R . W . Deputy Grand Master , the Rt . Hon . the Earl of Zetland , Prov . G . Master , and Lieut .-Col . the Hon . W . T . Orde-Po . vlett , J . P ., D . L ., P . G . W ., D . p . Prov . G . Master . " Bro . W . Hastings Sissons , P . M .. P . A . G . D . C England ,

on rising to respond on behalf of Grand Lodge , was received with loud applause . After thanking the brethren for the great cordiality of the reception accorded him , he said the appointments by the Grand Master were made most carefully and judiciously , and they must not overlook the fact that the higher rank meant increased responsibilities . He ( Bro . Sissons ) considered it a very high

honour when he was made an E . A ., and to be attached to a Freemasons' lodge , but he never expected to be made a Grand Officer . However , by diligence and perseverance on the part of the eminent brethren he saw before him they might also have the honour conferred upon them , and of which he was sure they would be found quite worthy . Freemasonry , with its purest principles , had done much to

promote peace and friendship amongst men , and the rapid strides the Craft had made of recent years would make its influence and power for good felt still more in the future . Bro . C . J . O'Donoghue , P . M ., P . P . J . G . W ., briefly and humorously responded on behalf of Prov . G . Lodge , paying a special tribute of praise to the Dep . Prov . G . M .,

Bro . Orde-Powlett , for the assiduity he had displayed in personally visiting all the lodges in the province , and making investigations as to the status of those lodges . Bro . J . Frank Nicholson , M . D ., P . M ., gave the toast of "The W . M . of the Kingston Lodge and his Officers . " Bro . Bilson , the newly-installed Master in the chair of K . S ., was , he said , most highly esteemed by all the

brethren . He ( Bro . Nicholson ) had the honour of raising Bro . Bilson to the Sublime Degree of a M . M . during his Mastership in 18 S 4 , and since that time Bro . Bilson had displayed much tact and efficiency in the various offices he had held , in fact , he might say , to their entire satisfaction , and the brethren had shown their sense of approbation by unanimously electing him to the highest position in

the lodge . The officers Bro . Bilson had selected were well known j some had had much experience in Masonry , whilst Others were new to the work j however , he hoped one and all would cordially and loyally support the Master in his arduous duties . The Worshipful Master was received with enthusiasm . He said that at the time when he was initiated as a member

of the Kingston Lodge he had many friends , and he was pleased to say that since then he had made many more . In accepting the position of honour which had been conferred upon him , he was quite aware of the great responsibilities which the office entailed , but he relied upon the support and kindly consideration of the brethren to enable him to discharge those duties . He would no doubt make many mistakes , and in craving their indulgence he ( the W . M . ) would ask them to

" Be to his virtues very kind , And to his faults a little blind , " and at the end of the year he hoped they would realise that their confidence had not been misplaced . He had the advantage of taking up the reins of office at a very quiet time in comparison with the previous year's work , although the 25 th anniversary of the lodge would be celebrated during

his term of office , and was glad to be supported that night by Bro . C . J . Todd , P . M ., P . P . G . Reg ., who was the first Mason initiated at the Kingston Lodge . Recentl y they had got into their new home , and they had every reason to be satisfied with their new quarters . He sincerely congratulated his respected I . P . M ., Bro . H . Fawcett Pudsey , upon the successful manner in which he had carried

out a most difficult project in connection with the lodge removal . In conclusion , the W . M . reminded them that much of the success of _ the lodge depended upon the mutual courtesy and consideration which was due from one brother to another , and upon the careful selection of their candidates—viz ., only to admit those who would readily , and at all times cheerfully , conform to those noble principles

and tenets of the Order , which were the foundation and glory of Freemasonry . If they kept these matters in mind , he felt no hesitation in predicting a most successful year . Bro . W . H . Wellsted , C . E ., P . M ., in eulogistic terms proposed "The I . P . M ., Bro . Lieut .-Col . H . F . Pudsey ,

and the Retiring Officers , " which was | duly acknowledged . "The Installing Officer , " " The Sister Lodges , " "The Visiting Brethren , " and the T y ler ' s toast followed . Some capital songs and recitations were given , which added not a little to make the gathering a most pleasurable one .

MIRFIELD . —Mirfield Lodge ( No . 1102 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held in the Masonic Hall on Friday , the 14 th inst ., and , although the attendance was not quite so numerous as last year at the dedica-

tion of the new hall , yet a muster of 27 visitors from 17 of the neighbouring lodges showed plainly in what estimation the brethren of this lodge are held in the district . The Provincial Grand Lodge was also well represented , and the show of purple on the dais made an imposing sight , relieved as it was with the light blue of the Craft . The lodge was duly opened by Bro . Walter Bailey , W . M .,

Bros . W . H . Wilson and M .

Two brethren having been proposed as joining member , "Hearty good wishes" were given from Lodges 37 , 61 , 154 , 20 S , 221 , 258 , 521 , 600 , 750 , 827 , 1019 , 12 3 1 , 1283 , 1 3 01 , 1514 , and 2261 , after which the lodge was

closed . It is worthy of note that no less than six P . M . 's took part in this installation , Bro . Bailey , the outgoing W . M ., doing the lion ' s share j this shows that , in the Mirfield Lodge , at any rate , the P . M . ' s " are prepared tj perform any ceremony . " The presence of Bro . J . Ibberson , P . M ., P . P . G . Reg ., afforded the brethren much pleasure ,

he being the oldest P . M . of the lodge and one of its founders . No . 1102 has been honoured with Provincial rank being given to four of its brethren , singularly enough , two Prov . G . Regs , and two Prov . G . S . of Wks ., all four of whom were present at this successful meeting . After the business oE the day was over , the brethren sat down to a banquet in the supper room , under the

presidency of the newly-installed W . M ., who was supported by most of the before-mentioned brethren , at the conclusion of which the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured . The toast list was embellished with Shakesperian extracts , which added to its interest . The enjoyment of the evening was greatly enhanced by

the programme of music given by Bros . Rickard , Buckland , Knight , Bairstow , Pickles , Sinkinson , and Smith , whose efforts were much appreciated by the brethren . Once more the Tyler ' s toast brought to a conclusion another of these special meetings of the Mirfield Lodge , so much enjoyed both by the brethren of the lodge and their visitors .

TORQUAY . —Jordan Lodge ( No . 1402 ) . —The regular monthly meeting of this lodge was held at the Masonic Hall on the nth inst ., when a goodly number were present , amongst others , Bros . W . J . A letter of condolence was unanimously directed to be sent to the widow of a deceased brother . Bro . Henley was

passed to the Degree of F . C , the ceremony being ably worked by the W . M . Bro . Chapman then gave his first address on Masonic news . In introducing thesubject , Bro . Chapman said it was not his intention to touch upon historical Masonry , or that of tracing the antecedents of lodges , both departments being already in such able hands , the former in those of Bro . W . J . Hughan , and the latter ,

Bro . Jno . Lane . The primary object was to bring to the notice of the brethren a summary of the most important Masonic events which transpired throughout the world , particularly those under the Constitution of the Grand Lodge of England . The transactions of the Grand Lodges of Quebec and Scotland j the formation of the new Grand Lodge of New South Wales j its recognition by the Grand

Lodges of England and Scotland j the Quarterly Communication to Grand Lodge—all passed under review , to the evident pleasure and profit of the numerous brethren assembled . After a few words from Bro . J . Lane , who referred to the number of lodges which would pass from under the jurisdiction of Grand Lodge , the lodge was closed .

Some capital songs and recitations were given , which added not a little to make the gathering a most pleasurable one .

tion of the new hall , yet a muster of 27 visitors from 17 of the neighbouring lodges showed plainly in what estimation the brethren of this lodge are held in the district . The Provincial Grand Lodge was also well represented , and the show of purple on the dais made an imposing sight , relieved as it was with the light blue of the Craft .

Once more the Tyler ' s toast brought to a conclusion another of these special meetings of the Mirfield Lodge , so much enjoyed both by the brethren of the lodge and their visitors .

passed to the Degree of F .
