of Installing Master that evening . The W . M . then presented to Bro . Dormer , on behalf of the lodge , a Past Master ' s jewel , which had been unanimously voted , to mark the appreciation of his services , and in asking Bro . Dormer ' s acceptance of the jewel , Bro . Morgan expressed a hope that the I . P . M . might be long spared to wear it and to continue his connection with the Leopold Lodge , and
that when he wore it it might bring to mind the esteem and regard in which he was held by the brethren of the lodge . Bro . Dormer , P . M ., in reply , sincerely thanked the VV . M . and brethren , and referred to the kind assistance he had received from the Past Masters and brethren , which had rendered his year of office a very pleasant one . He tendered to the brethren of the Leopold Lodge his warmest
thanks for the handsome jewel which had just been presented to him , which he would highly prize as a token of their esteem . In vacating the chair he left the lodge in a prosperous condition , and trusted that his successor would have as happy and prosperous a year as he had experienced . The toast of ' The Initiates , Bros . Percy Leach and Geo . Hall , " to whom the VV . M . tendered good advice , urging
them to study well the Constitutions and by-laws , and to attend the lodge of instruction in connection with the Leopold Lodge , having been duly honoured , the Initiates suitably replied . "The Visitors" followed , the W . M . remarking that nothing proved the universality of Freemasonry more than the presence of the visiting brethren , to whom the same cordial welcome was extended that was always at their
command from the members of the Leopold Lodge . Bros . F . Carr , P . M ., and R . S . Gushing , P . M ., of 1607 ; VV . Martin , P . M . S 79 ; Allsworth , and Garner suitably replied , and congratulated the lodge on the excellent working and programme of the evening . Then followed "The Masonic Institutions , " whose claims the VV . M . pressed upon the brethren of the lodge , stating
that it was not enough to become well wishers of the R . M . B . I . and the Boys' and Girls' Schools , but that every Freemason ought to be a Life Governor or Subscriber to at least one of the Benevolent Institutions , and this could easily be done by means of the Charitable Associations . Intimating his intention to go up as Steward to the forthcoming Jubilee Festival of the R . M . B . I ., he appealed to
the brethren of the Leopold Lodge to support him , so that a substan t ial sum might be the result of their united efforts . Bro . James Terry , Sec . R . M . B . I ., in a vigorous speech , which was well received , spoke at length upon the claims of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and forcibly appealed to the lodge to unitedly support their W . M . as
Steward on this occasion , at which the Deputy Grand Master , the Right Hon . the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , would preside , and he ( Bro . Terry ) sincerely hoped that the Craft at large would respond to the claims of the Institution which he had the honour to represent in a generous and hearty manner . "The Past Masters , " some of whom the W . M . regretted
were unable to be present through indisposition , was responded to by Bros . Carey , P . M ., and Packer , P . M . "The Officers , " with which toast the names of Bros . Colley , S . Grand Lodge of England , and had presided over an independent jurisdiction for more than 12 years , and performed some important duties as representing the Grand Lodge , and harmonising what might otherwise be conflicting ideas . They could hardly realize the loss they had sustained in the death of the late Grand Secretary who was a man with a marvellous combination of qualities . The
late Bro . Col . Clerke was a diplomatist of the first rank , whom it would be very difficult to replace . Bro . G . H . Reynolds , I . P . M , then said the toast of the "W . M . " was placed in hi . bonds became of his position as I . P . M . If it ha I be-11 otherwise it would have been proposed in a far more able manner by any brother present . He only wished to recall the name of the W . M . to feel
sincerely the brethren would receive it heartily . The toast required no words and he should not therefore endeavour to give it elaboration or ornamentation . He wou'd simply ask the members who knew the way Bro . Foan had worked up from an initiate to the post he now occupied , and ask those who attended the lodge of instruction who knew him as one of the most active members , and they would say he
had always given instruction to those in search of it . He had thought over in his mind what he should say to draw their attention to the qualities of the VV . M ., and . he had thought that to simply give his name in connection with the chair of this lodge would be the simplest and mist complimentary way he could give the toast . He would therefore ask the brethren to show by their heartiness what
they thought of their W . M . as a man and a Mason , and as a worthy occupant of the Worshipful Master's chair of the Covent Garden Lodge . Bro . G . H . Foan , VV . M ., returned thanks , and said he was not in a fit position , as it had com ; upon him so suddenly , to answer as fully as he should like , but if his remarks were few they were sincere . He was initiated in
this lodge seven years ago by Bro . Coleman , and would take the liberty of saying it must be a great pleasure to that brother to see him installed . His humble services were at the disposal of the lodge , and he would do everything that lay in his power to maintain the position of the lodge . Bro . Captain T . C . Walls , P . P . G . W . Middx ., replying for "The Visitors , " said that for the first time he had
visited this lodge , and he had met many friends . It showed the cosmopolitan character of Freemasonry , and it was one of the great charms of the Craft to visit lodges and reciprocate the hospitable feeling by inviting brethren in return . Allowing for the youth of the I , P . M ., and the nervousness consequent upon addressing a large gathering , the installation was performed in an admirable manner . He was
gratified with the manner in which the W . M . invested his officers , and was confident that at the end of the year Bro . Foan would carry with him one of the most hearty marks of recognition that had been accorded to any previous Master . Bro . G . H . Reynolds , I . P . M ., responding for " The I . P . M . and Past Masters , " thanked the brethren not only for the way in which they had received the toast , but also
for the way in which they had received his endeavours during the past year . He thanked the brethren for the manner in which he had been supported , and assured them he would support the W . M . as the previous I . P . M . supported him . Bro . E . Jacobs , P . M ., 'Treas ., in responding to the toast of "The Treasurer and Secretary , " thanked the brethren for having unanimously elected him , and it would always
be his great endeavour to carry out the duties of the office to the satisfaction of the lodge . liro . G . Reynolds , P . M ., Sec , thanked the VV . M . for the very flattering terms in which he had spoken of him , both i n the lodge andatthebanquet table , and the brethren for the very hearty manner in which his health had been drank . The evening- had been one of great pleasure to him
in seeing his son install his successor , an old friend , Bro . G . H . Foan into the chair of K . S ., and it would always 1 ) 5 his endeavour to serve him as he lnd previous Masters , and he hoped to sen-e future Mas ' ers , also in the same satisfactory manner . In his anxious duties he had always been well supported by all the brethren of the lodge . He thanked Bro . S . Hewett , P . M ., for the great kindness
he had always shown to the I . P . M ., and the greatest pleasure of all was to know and feel that the Covent Garden Lodge had a bright future in store , as the I . P . M . ( his son ) handed over the affairs of the lodge to his successor in a healthy state . The ship was in sm ioth water , and no doubt at the end of the year of office ofthe W . M . he would be able to render a good account . It should always be his endeavour
to serve the lodge faithfully , and he wished the good old Covent Garden Lodge prosperity , and the W . M . health and strength to carry out his responsible an a onerous duties . He had been well supported that evening , and had had a most successful installation . "The Officers" was given before the Tyler ' s toast
brought the proceedings to a close . A programme of music was well rendered , under the direction of Bro . Hedley Carus , assisted by Miss Selina Quick , Miss Alice Gough , Messrs . H . Hoare and II . Foan , Bro . Hoggins , and VV . J . Moriell , which gave great satisfaction .

'The toasts were duly honoured , but in silence , and without set speeches in proposing or acknowledging them , nor was there any music , in consequence of the lamentable death of H . R . H . the Duke of Clarence and Avondale . The installation meeting will take place on Friday next , the 20 th instant .

Owing to the prevalence of influenza and other illnesses peculiar to the season , many members and visitors were unable to be present , but there was a fairly good attendance notwithstanding , and a very
pleasant gathering was the result . General regret was felt at the absence of Bro . Prudames , VV . M ., who was confined to the house by illness , but his place wis ably filled by Bro . S . R . M . received the hearty congratulations of those present , and the lodge was closed and the brethren adjourned to the banquet room , where dinner was served by Bro . II . Kemp . On the . removal of the cloth the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , Bro . Geo . E . Lake , D . P . G . M .,
replying for " A he Provincial Grand Officers , " and afterwards proposing in very complimentary terms " The Health of the VV . M . 227 S , after which
Bro . Bullock rose , and proposed the toast of " The Masonic Charities . " In the course of his remarks Bro . Bullock referred to the important celebration which was so near at hand , to wit , thatof the Jubilee of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and expressed the hope that the brethren would loyally support Bro . T . G . Robinson , P . M ., who had undertaken to represent the lodge on that occasion ,
and also that the Festival itself would turn out a brilliant success , more especially as Bro . Terry , the Secretary to the Institution , was a Hertfordshire Mason , and had been for upwards of 20 years a Grand Officer of the province . Bro . Bullock further enlarged on the necessity for supporting the Masonic Charities , which were doing such an amount of good , and mentioned , in illustration of his remarks , the
case of the widow of a brother whose case it had devolved upon him to support at the last meeting ol the Board of Benevolence , and whose claims had , in his opinion , been the more favourably considered from the fact of her husband having in the days of his allluence constituted himself a Life Governor of the three Chanties . The toast was cordially received , and Bro . Robinson , in his reply , reiterated the hope expressed by Bro . Bullock
that the members would support him in his Stewardship—a hope which before the close of the evening wis in some measure realised , a very fair amount of support being accorded to Bro . Robinson . The toasts of ;* The Past Masters " and " The Oliicers " having been replied to by Bros . S . R . Timson , I . P . M ., and W . Lowndes , S . VV ., respectively , the Tyler's toast brought the proceedings , which had been very enjoyable , to a close .

On the . removal of the cloth the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , Bro . Geo . E . Lake , D . P . G . M .,
replying for " A he Provincial Grand Officers , " and afterwards proposing in very complimentary terms " The Health of the VV .
