less happily circumstanced , the St . John s Column should be passed round , and the amount collected forwarded to her Royal Highness , which was carried by acclamation . "The W . M . ' s Health , " was very eloquently proposed by Bro . Page , I . P . M ., he wishing him a happy and successful year of office , with abundance of work , and work worthy of him .

In proposing the toast of "The Visiting Brethren , " the W . M . advocated the visiting of the neighbouring lodges by the younger brethren , even without the usual invitation , saying that the experience thus gained could not be over estimated . Thc following brethren responded to the toast : Bros . Sir J . Devereux , P . P . G . Sec . j Sevenoaks , W . M .

209 ; King , VV . M . 945 j and Judge , VV . M . 178 S . Bro . Sir J . Devereux in responding , alluded to the unique and magnificent temple in which the lodge held its meetings , giving some very interesting details in connection with it , and recounting the many difficulties he had to contend with before that beautiful structure , of which he was the instigator , was constructed and consecrated .

" The Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . T . Page , " was then enthusiastically received , the W . M ., at the same time , investing him with a handsome P . M . ' s collar , subscribed for by the officers who had worked under him as " a mark of their sincere regard , " and remarking that Bro . Page had worked up through every office of the Iodge in rotation , and rather than skip an office when the opportunity

offered , had preferred that a junior officer should step over him . He was also not only a splendid example of what a speculative Mason should be , but he had done his best for his lodge as an operative Mason , having that evening presented them with a very fine ivory gavel , which he had carved as a labour of love with his own hands . A capital programme of music , under the able diiection of Bro . Somers , J . D ., was given by Bro . G . May , a

chorister of St . George s Chapel , Bro . Rowe , and other gentlemen , which materially added to the enjoyment of the evening . In every respect this installation meeting was a decided success , and the lodge fully deserves the hearty congratulations which were freely bestowed on its Master and officers at the close of the first meeting of what promises to be a red-letter year for the Windsor Castle Lodge .

PLUMSTEAD . —Pattison Lodge ( No . 913 ) . — The usual monthly meeting of the above prosperous lodge took place on Thursday , the 7 th inst ., at the new Masonic Hall , Bull Fields . Bro . W . D . Rich , and proving successful , those gentlemen were duly initiated .

Bro . Sedgley was passed , and Bros . Chaney , Dickenson , and Roberts were raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M . ' s . Bro . Penfold , P . M ., then reported the state of Bro . H . Butter , P . M ., P P . G . Reg ., and it was resolved that the Secretary should again write to the distinguished suffering brother , assuring him of the continued love and sympathy of the brethren with him in his sufferings , which Bro .

Penfold assured thebrethren were borne with the most Christian fortitude . The W . M ., Bro . Lawson , having spoken on the subject , the lodge was closed . A very pleasant supper having been partaken of , the usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts were duly honoured , and were followed by that of " Earl Amherst , P . G . M . of the Province of Kent , which was drunk , as usual in this

Iodge , with enthusiasm . In responding for a hearty reception of the toast of " Bro . Eastes , D . P . G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , : Present and Past , " Bro . Hayes said it was a great honour ^ to have one's name associated with so important a toast as that of the Provincial Officers of so important a province as that of the Province of Kent . Bro . Eastes

they all knew worked hard for Masonry in the province , while in Earl Amherst they had a Prov . G . Master of whom they , and indeed any province , might well be proud . He was proud of being their representative , but felt that it was from no merit of his own , but rather as a compliment to the lodge , that he was appointed to his present position . He was proud of serving under his lordship , and attended

every meeting to which he was summoned . The hardest portion of the work the Prov . Grand Officers had to do was to eat a good dinner and severally and conjointly enjoy themselves , a burden he and all the Prov . Grand Officers seemed to bear with Christian fortitude . Whenever he went down to Grand Lodge he was always accompanied by several Prov . Grand Officers belonging to the lodge , and

they always enjoyed themselves . They were thoroughly impressed with the beauty of Freemasonry , and he felt sure that in time another collar would be granted to the lodge , so that it might always be represented at Prov . Grand Lodge . He cordially thanked them for the honour paid him . Bro . Keeble , in responding to a hearty reception of the

toast of his health , eloquently put by the I . P . M ,, Bro . Lawson , said he took it that the toast was not put once a month as a mere matter of form , but that it came from their hearts . So far as regarded his health , the best thing they could do to keep him in the best of health was to assist

him to make his year a successful one by bringing good and deserving candidates . He would like it to be known that their hall was now warmed and made comfortable , so that both they and their visitors , of whom he was proud to see so good an array present , might enjoy not only the working but thc amenities of their social board , and that

the surrounding lodges would come and fraternize with them . In conclusion , he could assure the brethren that anything he could do for their comfort and the prosperity of the lodge would always be his aim and pleasure . The toast of "The Past Masters" was coupled with the names of Bros . Hayes and Jolly , and the former , in responding , gave a very interesting account of his late journey

to Egypt and Malta . He said that during his trip he was very much impressed with the universality of Freemasonry , also the proofs of how ancient it was from the signs engraved on the tombs at Sakkara , the site of ancient Memphis , which flourished more than 3000 years ago . In the citadel , at Cairo , he saw an old building with the emblems of Masonry engraved on its walls , and was

informed that it was supposed to be the Master Mason ' s house of that ancient time . He visited the Bulwer Lodge , at Cairo , and was pleased with the ability displayed in the working , and interested in the brethren belonging to the various countries present . They , most of them , expressed their thanks for the hospitality shown them in their several native tongues , which was translated to the English brethren by the able and courteous Secretary of the lodge .

At Malta , also , he was deeply impressed with the excellent working and splendid hospitality shown him at the lodges he visited there , and could assure the brethren present that the whole of his experiences of Freemasonry in those distant countries would ever be remembered by him with pleasure . Bro . Jolly having responded , "The Initiate , " "Visitors , " " Officers , " " Brethren of the Lodge , " and Tyler ' s toast , concluded the proceedings .

less happily circumstanced , the St .
