Organist ; S . Jacobs , Director of Ceremonies ; Lome and S . Dancyger , Stewards ; and Walkley , Janitor . Comp . Da Silva , I . P . Z ., in proposing a hearty vote of thanks to Comp . James Terry for his beautiful rendering of the installation ceremonies , said that no words were needed to enhance the value of the services rendered , for Comp . Terry ' s abilities were well known and thoroughly

appreciated . Comp . Phillips , M . E . Z ., having seconded the proposition , it was carried with acclamation . A P . Z . ' s jewel was presented to Comp . Da Silva , I . P . Z ., in recognition of his efficient services rendered during the past year , the M . E . Z . expiessing the wish that their I . P . Z . would be spared for many years to wear this token of their esteem and regard . Comp . Da Silva , I . P . Z ., said he had much

pleasure in accepting the jewel , as he knew it was the unanimous gift of the chapter . He would wear it as long as he lived , and would continue to exert his interest for the benefit of the chapter . Letters of regret for non-attendance were received from Comps . Col . Shadwell H . Clerke , Frank Richardson , Thomas Fenn , Sir H . Isaacs , and Rev . R . J . Simpson . Comp . Hogard , Scribe E ., asked the chapter

to accept from him a set of gavels suitable for use at the banquet table ; the thoughtful present being readily accepted and a hearty vote of thanks accorded the donor . The progress of the chapter was marked by eight brethren being proposed as candidates for exaltation , and there being no further business for transaction , the convocation was closed .

After banquet the usual toasts were briefly and appropriately given and heartily received . Comp . C . F . Hogard , P . D . G . D . C , responding for "The Grand Ofiicers , " said he had nothing more to say than that he thanked the companions sincerely for the kindly reception always acorded thc Grand Officers . Comp . Da Silva , I . P . Z ., said it was quite a novel

experience for him to have the privilege of proposing " The Health of the M . E . Z ., " but he could assure them it gave him a large amount of pleasure . It was not the first time he had risen to propose the health of Comp . Phillips , the M . E . Z ., but it was the first time he had had the honour of proposing his health as M . E . Z . Whenever he had had that honour , it had been knowing that he was proposing the

health of one who deserved the success he had attained . Comp . Phillips , M . E . Z ., had worked hard in Freemasonry , for in the lodge he had succeeded in attaining the position of W . M ., and he had now attained the summit of his ambition in the chapter . As brevity was the order of the evening , he would simply ask the companions to drink the health of the M . E . Z ., and wish him a successful year of office .

Comp . H . J . Phillips , M . E . Z ., thanked the I . P . M . and companions for the kind manner in which his health had been proposed and received . He should endeavour to the utmost of his power to make his year a successful and pleasant one , and hoped he should have the co-operation oi all the members . He had to propose " The Health of the Exaltee , " who , was well known to the members as a zealous and able companion , and they would therefore greet him well .

Comp . Joseph Levy appropriately responded . "The H . and J . " was next given by the M . E . Z ., who said the merits of Comps . Gartley , H ., and L . Norden , J ., were so well known that it would be unnecessary for him to expatiate upon them . He was proud to have two such excellent companions as H , and J ., and anything that would be wanting on hii part would be compensated for by their

excellent wotk . Comp . Gartley , H ., after returning thanks , said he was longing for the time to come when he should occupy the chair of First Principal , and he trusted he should do as well as the worthy companion who occupied it that evening . Comp . L . Norden , J ., returned thanks for his election , and said that having occupied positions in the lodgeit

, gave him great pleasure to hold office in the chapter . He would do all he could for the chapter , and trusted his efforts would give satisfaction . Comp . S . V . Abrahams , P . Z . iSS , in returning thanks for " The Visitors , " said that neither by position in the

Order , nor by ability to address them , could he claim any reason why he should be conspicuously selected to respond . However , as is duty bound by orders from the M . E . Z . in the chair , by the dictates of his own heart , and in response to the feelings of the other visitors , he ventured to acknowledge the hospitable reception they had received .

Royal Arch.

They acknowledged it not only for the hospitality with which the members had received them , but they desired to express their high appreciation of the excellent manner in which the conduct of the chapter was carried on . The chapter was young in years , but it was evident that it was old in ability . He might , in the absence of that distinguished companion who had left—Comp . James Terrysay how deeply they felt impressed with that grand and

solemn ceremony which that companion so impressively gave . He referred to the installation of the Principals . On behalf of the visitors , and especially on his own behalf , he begged to acknowledge the compliment paid them . Comp . Emanuel , P . Z ., also returned thanks . Comp . J . Da Silva , I . P . Z ., in response to the toast of " The P . Z . 's " expressed the pleasure it afforded him to reply for the first time and return sincere thanks to the members

of the chapter as one of its P . Z . 's . That night they commemorated in a certain extent the first lustre that had passed over the head of their chapter , for the last of the three Principals installed at the consecration had vacated the chair . He hoped that the chapter would progress under the direction of the present three Principals as it progressed under the three preceding ones . Although he was the

youngest of the P . Z . ' s , still , at the same time , for some years he had ranked as one of thc P . M . ' s of the Israel Lorlge , where the P . M . ' s formed a very numerous and influential part of that lodge , and his voice had not been heard very frequently there , as there were many other and abler brethren called upon to respond . He had no doubt that as years rolled on that chapter would be like the lodge

—with a large number of P . Z . 's , and his voice would not therefore be heard . He wished to impress upon them the duty of _ keeping together that bond of unanimity and friendship—that bond which had cemented the brethren of the lodge and chapter for so many years . He would ask them to remember that the brethren of the lodge and companions

of the chapter were animated by the same feelings , and that in years to come they would not only maintain that harmonious feeling , but also attain a pinnacle of perfection that no chapter had ever yet attained ^ Comps . I . P . Cohen , Treas ., and Rev . M . Haines , S . N ., responded for "The Officers , " and the Janitor ' s toast closed a pleasant evening . GATESHEAD - ON - TYNE . — Chapter of

Industry ( No . 48 ) . —The regular convocation of this industrious chapter was held on Thursday , the 14 th inst ., when there was plenty of work . There were present Comps . John Duckitt , Z . ; Robert Whitfield , H . j Jas . McCulloch , J . j M . Corbitt , P . Z ., Treas . j G . E . Macarthy , P . Z . 4 S 1 j VVm . Brown , E . ; T . R . Short , as N . ; VVm . Richardson , Principal Soj . ; T . R . Jobson , Asst . Soj . ; R . Arkley , R . Ferry , Org . ; R . VV . Dees , Thomas Watson , and others .

The ballot having proved favourable for the two candidates , Bros . John Boazman and H . H . Holme , they were both duly exalted in the Supreme Degree by Comp . Duckitt , Z . Another proposition for exaltation vvas made for next meeting , after which the proceedings closed in the usual manner .

COLCHESTER . —Patriotic Chapter ( No . 51 ) , —The quarterly meeting of this chapter vvas held on Thursday evening , the 14 th inst ., and , after the conclusion of the business , the companions ( about 30 ) dined together at the Cups Hotel . In the course of the evening ,. Comp . J . J . C . Turner , on behalf of the members , presented to Comp . Richard Clowes an iS-carat gold I . P . Z . jewel , and ,

in doing so , referred to the efforts Comp . Clowes had made during his year of office for the good of the chapter and the comfort of the members , and more especially for the high musical talent he had on several occasions provided for the entertaiment of the companions . Comp . Clowes , in acknowledging the presentation , said he had been completely taken by surprise , and assured the

companions that he valued , and should continue to value most highly , so substantial a token of their esteem . The iewel bore the following inscription : " Presented to Ex . Comp . Richard Clowes , I . P . Z . 51 , P . P . G . R ., by the companions of the Patriotic Chapter , No . 51 , as a token of esteem on the completion of his year of office as Z , Colchester , 14 th February , 1880 . "

P . Z . 51 , P . P . G .
