THE ALEXANDRIA CIGARETTE CO . 'S NEW BRAND . DRAGOUMIS . PREPARED OF THE PUREST TURKISH TOBACCOS . The highest classes of tobacco , however , are converted into the well-known " Dragoumis , " for which , the Alexandria Cigarette Company have gained a deservedly high reputation , and we have no hesitation in saying , after a practical test so far as our taste and judgment permit , that they are superior to any we have yet tried , either imported or otherwise . — Whitehall Review Their latest brand , " Dragoumis , " made of a skilful blend of fine Egyptian tobaccos , is full of flavour , yet delicately fragrant enough to please the most fastidious palate . We shall be surprised if "Dragoumis" do not prove the cigarette of the season . —Pump Court .

RE MASONIC CHARITIES—A SUGGESTION . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , Most of us vvho have listened to the earnest responses of our good Bro . Terry t > the toast of " I he Masonic Charities " have frequently heard his apt illustration of the fact that it is onl y the few and constant subscribers wbo practically maintain our nub'e Institutions ;

that , if only every Mason under the allegiance of Grand Lodge of England was to contribute the small sum ot five shillings annually , each of the Charities vvould not only be free from all pecuniary worries , but able to open their doors to every deserving applicant without any formality of election , annual apptals , & c . Whilst listening on Saturday last to our brother , it occurred to me that if the Executive of the three Institutions

would entertain the idea of having some boxes made wiih three separate partitions for the Benevolent , the Boys , and the Girls , there is hardly a brother amongst us who would not consent to have one in his house , pieciselyin the same way that so many of us have for missionary and kindred societies , and vvhich prove to them a great source of revenue . I venture to think that were this plan adopted our

Masonic Institutions would very materially benefit , as it would not only be a daily reminder to us as brethren of our duty , but many of the outside world , vvho are fully aware of the great good done to the community generally by the very existence of the Masonic Charities , would gladly contribute their dole . It would also serve as a receptacle for many hundreds of spare pence , shillings , and pounds . *—I am , dear Sir and Brother , yours fraternally , EDWIN STORR , P . M . February 18 th .

PROVINCIAL CALENDARS . 5 . EAST LANCASHIRE . Calendar of Masonic Meetings in East Lancashire . 1 SS 9 . This is a laborious compilation , for though not consisting * of many pages , it is crammed with information , and so condensed as to be a minature Masonic " Bradshaw " for

the province , of which Bro . John Chadwick is the Prov . Grand Secretary , and is the editor thereof . If anyone wilt try their hands at a similar publication , for a small province , they will then be able to judge of the labour involved in the preparation of this Calendar for a province having 99 lodges , 37 chapters , 30 Mark lodges , and numerous other bodies .

MARK GRAND LODGE , & c . Masonic Calendar of Lodges , Councils , & c , meeting at 8 A , Red Lionsquare , W . C , & c . 18 S 9 . We have " nothing but praise " to offer respecting this handsome and most useful annual , novv in its fourth year of issue . It is published by authority of the General

[ Mark ] Board , and in reality is much more exhaustive than its title indicates , ln relation to the Mark Degree , it is simply invaluable , and should be in the hands of all students and supporters of that very prosperous organisation . We fancied that the edition for 1 SS 8 was the best of the series , and so it was , but the 18 S 0 annual surpasses its

immediate predecessor , and runs to ten pages more , there being now 92 , all of which are " brimful " of interesiing matter , and contain particulars which are not to be met with elsewhere . For the numerous lodges , chapters , and other Masonic bodies , using the hall , & c , at Red Lion-square , it must be indispensable , but as the work furnishes a

complete roll of all the Grand Masters , Pro Grand Masters , Deputy Grand Masters , Provincial Grand Masters , and all the Grand Officers from 1856 , and this time has even the Deputy Prov . Grand Masters ( who take rank before the Grand Deacons ) , it will at once be seen thai this excel ent

annual deserves a wide circulation , and has been ably edited , as usual , to the manifest advantage of the Craft . A series of remarkable tables concerning the position of the Mark Grand Lodge , in relation to its numbers , charities , & c , three being new this year , add much to the practical value of the work ,
