The exhibition will mainly comprise works of tbe British and Dutch schools , a number of the latter being now publicly exhibited for the first time . A few fine examples byJ . L . Dixie had also served well as Steward at several festivals for the Institutions , and was at all times a safe and perfect Preceptor . German Reed is serious and impressive enough , but it becomes more serious and impressive still when we reflect that they constituted by themselves almost the entire corps of artists which lor more than 3 6 years had delighted the public with what has been known as the "German Reed" Entertainment . Mrs .
Reed will be remembered by old playgoers as the Miss Piiscilla Horton , who took a prominent part in the Shakespearian revivals of the late Charles Kean . Her theatrical experiences extended from 1834 to 1858 . Subsequently she made the tour of the provinces with her husband , Mr . German Reed , to whom she was married in 1 S 44 , and , on returning to the Metropolis , they settled down , and gave the entertainment which was named after them , and only the memory of which will suivive thtm .

THE DISLIKE of the Roman Catholic Church for Freemasonry has found expression in the publication of a series of violent attacks on Freemasons in a Lyons newspaper called " La France Libre . " which has a Roman Catholic editor . Freemasons in Lyons have been the subject of personal denunciations . Lists of names have been given , and employers have been exhorted to have nothing to do
with those who were thus denounced . Among the persons thus brought into prominence is an organist at on- * - of the Lyons churches , and the result was that he was ci mussed from his employment . In consequence of this he has brought an action tor libel against the paper , claiming 3000
francs damages . A printer who is also aggrieved in the same way has brought an action to recover 2000 francs . Ellis moved : "That it is the earnest wish of the inhabitants and ratepayers of' this parish , who justly appreciate the valued services of the Rev . T . Selby Henrey during the past six years , that he should be appointed to the vacant living , as they feel
assured that the spiritual needs of the pan-h will beamply and properly provided for by such appointment , and the parishioners respectfully hope that the dean and chapter will give effect to their unanimous desire . MASONIC BALL . —A ball took place in the Victoria Hall , Dunblane , on Friday , the 15 th inst ., in connection with the bi-century of Dunblane Lodge , No . 9 . The lodge has a long and interesting history , having written records back to 1695 , and these records pointing to a period of existence prior to that date . Many names eminent in Scottish history are enrolled in its minute-books . For some years
before 18 S 6 the lodge was not in a very thriving condition , buton Bro . Col . Stirling , of Kippendavie , being appointed Master , it has since been very prosperous , and now numbers nearly 100 members . The present R . W . M . is Bro . C . Murray Stewart . Returns for last week show a great diminution in the number of deaths due to influenza and diseases of the respiratory organs . THE DUCHESS OF LEINSTER , who had been in delicate
health for some months past and spending the winter in the Riviera , died at Mentone , in the presence of her nearest relatives , on Tuesday . Her Grace was born in 1864 , and in 1 S 84 married the Duke of Leinster , who died in 1893 , leaving three sons , of whom the present Duke of Leinster was born in 1887 . THE DISLIKE of the Roman Catholic Church for Freemasonry has found expression in the publication of a series of violent attacks on Freemasons in a Lyons newspaper called " La France Libre . " which has a Roman Catholic editor . Freemasons in Lyons have been the subject of personal denunciations . Lists of names have been given , and employers have been exhorted to have nothing to do
with those who were thus denounced . Among the persons thus brought into prominence is an organist at on- * - of the Lyons churches , and the result was that he was ci mussed from his employment . In consequence of this he has brought an action tor libel against the paper , claiming 3000
francs damages . A printer who is also aggrieved in the same way has brought an action to recover 2000 francs . Ellis moved : "That it is the earnest wish of the inhabitants and ratepayers of' this parish , who justly appreciate the valued services of the Rev . T . Selby Henrey during the past six years , that he should be appointed to the vacant living , as they feel
assured that the spiritual needs of the pan-h will beamply and properly provided for by such appointment , and the parishioners respectfully hope that the dean and chapter will give effect to their unanimous desire . MASONIC BALL . —A ball took place in the Victoria Hall , Dunblane , on Friday , the 15 th inst ., in connection with the bi-century of Dunblane Lodge , No . 9 . The lodge has a long and interesting history , having written records back to 1695 , and these records pointing to a period of existence prior to that date . Many names eminent in Scottish history are enrolled in its minute-books . For some years
before 18 S 6 the lodge was not in a very thriving condition , buton Bro . Col . Stirling , of Kippendavie , being appointed Master , it has since been very prosperous , and now numbers nearly 100 members . The present R . W . M . is Bro . C . Murray Stewart .
