The usual addresses were delivered by the Installing Master , and the lodge was closed . After a well-served banquet the customary toasts were
given . Bro . VV . Hopekirk , P . G . P ., responding for "The Grand Officers , " thanked the W . AL for coupling his name with the toast . The Grand Officers in the past had endeavoured to do their duty , and were thankful for the honour conferred upon them . The present Grand Ofiicers were well worthy of the honour , and it was gratifying for them to know that
their services were appreciated not only by the M . W . G . M ., but by the lodges they had the honour to visit . Bro . Col . G . Noel Money , P . G . M ., returned thanks for the toast of his health , and said it was a wonderlul thing that in Surrey they had such good Masons and hard working lodges . He knew that around London there were a number who cared little for work and a great deal forthe " Fourth "
Degree , but he had not yet come across one in Surrey , although he had visited nearly three-fourths of the lodges . He did not think there was a single province in England he should desire more than Surrey to preside over , and he should never forget the enormous gathering when he was installed by Lord Lathom . He hoped their meetings would always be marked by large numbers , and this year the
Provincial Grand Lodge would be held at Surbiton , which he thought would be convenient for the province at large . It had been a great pleasure for him to visit that lodge for the lirst time and see the excellent way in which it was conducted . The name of the Installing AIaster—Bro . Woodward , P . M . —was a household word in Surrey , and the present VV . AI . had before him the very best example to
follow . He wished the W . AL a most successful year of ollice , and the members a happy year under his gavel . Bro . Dr . Strong , P . P . S . G . W ., acknowledged the toast of " The Deputy Provincial Grand AIaster , and Provincial Grand Ofiicers , Present and Past . " lhis was his mother lodge , and he had great pleasure in coming amongst the brethren , for it was about 25 years ago since he occupied the position the
VV . M . did that evening . In those days they were not unmindful of work , and in the excellent little work compiled b y Bro . Woodward , P . M ., Sec , they would find he had eight initiates during his year . There was one thing he wished to recommend them to do , which was to attend the Provincial Grand Lodge as regularly as possible , for there
was nothing more gratifying for the Provincial Grand AIaster than to see the brethren coining up year after year . Bro . Dr . Parsons Smith , P . P . G . D ., replied for "The Visitors . " He said it was always a pleasure to see a good man honoured , especially when that good man was a friend . They had done honour to a brother who was a dear friend

of his , in placing the W . M . in the chair , and he was sure that under his ruling the members would have a happy and prosperous year . Bro . C . H . Woodward , P . M ., Sec , said that , as the senior P . M . —the I . P . M . having left—it was his pleasure to propose " The Health of the VV . M . " It was his privilege to introduce Bro . Williams , their present W . M ., into Freemasonry , and it had also been his privilege to install
him into the chair that evening . The brethren , he was sure , would heartily drink the W . M . ' s health and wish him all prosperity . Bro . B . A . Williams , VV . M ., said it was always an anxious moment for a Mason to be placed in the chair for the first time , and it was not given to all to perform the ceremonies of Freemasonry with the same felicity . He
could only assure them that in the ceremonies he might ' have to perform he should do his best , and if he failed through nervousness he should ask them to forgive him , as it would be through no want of desire on his part . He thanked them most heartily for the honour conferred upon him by placing him in the chair . Bro . Sharpe , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B ., on behalf of " The Past Alasters , " returned thanks . Living at a distance he was
not able to render that assistance he should wish , but he knew the lodge had been in the hands of good , true , and capable men . There was a time when he knew every member personally , but now many were strangers in one sense , although brothers in Masonry . He was glad the Provincial Grand Master had honoured them with a visit , and he hoped that would have a good effect , and that the lodge would be at all times ready to do credit to the
pro-. " The Initiates " were next honoured , and other toasts followed before the brethren separated , after an enjoyable evening . Bro . H . L . Balfour ably presided at the pianoforte , and several brethren rendered musical selections .

given . Bro .
