The quarterly meeting of the General Committee of Grand Lodge ( the Board of Masters ) was held on Wednesday evening , at Freemasons' Hall , when the chairs were occupied by Bros . Robert Grey , D . At the Board of Masters the business to be transacted at Grand Lodge of June 2 nd was submitted to the brethren . The Board of Benevolence was then held , and Bro . Robert Grey , President , occupied the President ' s chair , Bro . D D . Mercer , P . G . P ., Senior Vice-President , and Bro . Thomas Webb Whitmarsh , P . G . P ., took the chair of Junior Vice-President . The brethren first confirmed recommendations to the Grand Master , made at the April meeting , to the extent ° f £ 395- There were 35 cases on the new list qualified through lodges in the

London District , and Brecon , Weymouth , Manchester , Devonport , Sittingbourne , Wareham , Bellary , Hull , Poole , Riverhead , Jersey , Reigate , Spalding , Birmingham ,, Southampton , Norwich , Brighton , Ealing , Aston , Eastbourne , Durham , Bishops Stortford , and New York . The Board sat nearly four hours , in the course of which time they deferred four cases and dismissed three . A total sum of ^ 570 was apportioned among the remainder . The Grand Master was recommended to grant , £ 40 each in three of them , and £ 20 each in five . Eleven grants of , £ 20 each were voted , seven of ^ 10 each , and two of . £ 5 each .

Other business followed , after which the lodge was closed , and the bre'h ren ad journed to a recherche banquet , which was supplied by Bro . A . Clemow in his besl - style . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts having been duly honoured , Bro . H . J . Macfarlane , I . P . M ., proposed "The Health of the Worshipful Master . " He said that it fell to his pleasant lot to submit the toast which he ventured "' think would be received most enthusiastically . The W . M . had a oromisine * veai

M ., on rising to respond , received a hearty greeting . He said that it was a great pleasure and honour to be the Master of the Egyptian Lodge 1 which he

'" was initiated six years ago , and he had now reached the aim ot his Mascnic " . Bro . Macfarlane had had a successful yesi * of office and if he c . uld have the same J * " ! would be highly gratified . Craft Masonry.

In response , Bro . Walter Johnson slid he would endeavour to become worthy of the Order—the grandest onc in the world—and he was honoured by being made a Mason In giving "The Installing and Immediate Past Master , Bro . Macfarlane , " the W . M . s * ated that his work that evening was excellent , which ma le it impossible to hive been beitsr rendered , and they were all proud of him . Hc then presented him w . th a Past Master ' s jewel , remarking that no one had more worthily earned it ; they all appreciated his great services in the ritual and for what he had done for the lodge , and he wished him 1 > ng life to wear the jewel and eery happiness . The remarks of the W . M . were received with p ; reat applause .

The jew * - ! bore the following inscription * . " Presented by the Egyptian Lodge , No . 27 , to Bro . Herbert Jepson Macfarlane , P . M . as a t * ken of esteem for his in > st cflicit nt seiv ' ces during his year of oflice , 1895-6 . " Bro . H . J . Macfarlane , I . P . M ., who was well received , responded . He appreciated the kind words of the Worshipful Master , and thanked the members for their cordial reception . He should honour the jewel as a mark of their respect , as it would ever remind him of the many happy hours he had spent in the Egyptian Lodge .

The VV . M . proposed "The Visitors , " observing that they were honoured with the attendance of a large number , but it was always so at their installation meetings , and they were proud to entertain their guests . On behalf of the lodge , he gave them a hearty welcome , and he associated with the toast the names of Bros . J . J . Lamigeon , W . M . 2551 j Sidney Willmot , P . P . G . Reg . Kent ; E . C Talbot , P . M . ; and Stephen Earl , W . M .

Bro . J . J . Lamigeon said that he was honoured by his name being coupled with the toast of the visitors , but he was at a loss to know why he had been called upon to respond , except to show that he was a bad speechmaker . It had been his good fortune to visit the lodge—in which he had several dear friends—on many occasions , and he thought the time had then arrived to tender himself as a joining member . The working was always good in the Egyptian Lodge , but he had never seen better than he had witnessed that night .

Bro . Sidney Willmot stated that it afforded him much pleasure to have been invited to the installation meeting , and he was glad to endorse the remarks of Bro . Lamigeon . He had done some work in the Craft , and might he say that Bro . Macfarlane ' s work was of the highest quality . The lodge was presided over by a genial brother , who did not come from Egypt but from the country of Bobbie Burns , and he felt he would have a successful career as W . M .

Bro . E . C . Talbot , P . M ., also acknowledged the toast , remarking that ths visitors had thoroughly enjoyed themselves , both in the lodge and at the banqueting table . Bro . Stephen Earl also responded , congratulating the initiate on the way he had been initiated in such a good old lodge . The VVorshipful Master gave " The Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary . " He said they were good fellows all , and no words of his were necessary to call attention to their many qualities , and the great things they had done for the lodge , and he coupled with the toast the name of the indefatigable Secretary , Bro . Matt . H . Hale , P . M .

Bro . M . H . Hale , P . M ., responded , remarking that the hour was late , and time did not permit of long speeches , but he would coitent himself by thanking the W . M . for the eulogistic way in which he had proposed the toast , and the members for their kind appreciation . The next toast was "The Officers , " the Worshipful Master stating that they were

efficient , and he hoped that they would all be constant and punctual in attendance , and he joined with the toast the names of Bros . C . J . Pallot , S . W ., and C . Kemp , J . W . Bro . C . J . Pallot responded , thanking him for having appointed him S . W . He and his colleagues would do their best to support the W . M ., and he urged his brother olfieers to attend lodges of instruction , and so help to keep up the well-known reputation of the lodge .

Bro . C . Kemp , J . W ., also acknowledged the toast in brief but adequate terms . The Tyler's toast brought to a close a most enjoyable and memoraole evening . The musical entertainment was one of the very best . The following took part : Bros . Reginald Groome , Wingrove Ives , Jno . Sandbrook , R . Douglas-Smith , P . M ., and A . E . Todd , P . M ., but the great feature of the evening was the song— " Stars may forget , " which was most artistically rendered by Bro . Reginald Groome . Bro . Arthur Briscoe , P . P . G . Org . Surrey , presided with his well-known ability at the pianoforte .

Lodge of Truth , No . 521 . The celebration of the jubilee of the above lodge lodge was held on Wednesday afternoon , the 13 th inst ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Fitzwilliam-street , Huddersfield . The warrant of the lodge is dated the 3 rd December , 1 S 45 , the celebration of the jubilee having been postponed with a view to giving an opportunity for several distinguished brethren to attend , but unfortunately Bro . W . L . Jackson , M . P ., P . G . M ., etc ., was summoned to attend a meeting of the Grand Lodge in London on the same day . Thc

proceedings at the lodge were presided over by Bro , John Freeman Dyson , W . M ., supported by his officers and a number of distinguished provincial and other brethren in connection with the Craft , amongst whom were Bros . Harry Allen . P . S . G . W . ; J . S . The lodge having been opened , and after an introductory address by the W . M ., Bro . Williamson , P . P . G . D ., read a sketch of the history of the lodge , showing its career from thc time of its inaugaration in 1 S 45 down to the end of December , 1895 , in whicli he referred to the lodge being the Masonic parent of George Frederick Samuel Robinson , Viscount Goderich of Nocton who afterwards became Grand Master of the Craft in

England . The address was listened to with great interest by a number of the elder brethren who remembered many of the occurrences referred to by Bro . Williamson in the early period of the lodge . Bro . H . Allen and other brethren offered hearty congratulations to the W . M . of the lodge on the auspicious occasion . During the proceedings Bro . Riley , P . M ., enteitained the brethren with a capital rendering of the song " Nazareth , "and Bros . W . Kiley and Arnold contributed a vocal duet .

Subsequently the brethren partook of a banquet in the large hall of the lodge , at which the W . M . presided , supported by the distinguished brethren already mention ; d and a large gathering of brethren from the various lodges in the West Riding .

On Wednesday the bazaar was opened by the Duchess of Portland .
