MANCHESTER . — Arthur Sullivan Lodge ( No . 2156 ) . —The second installation meeting since the consecration of this musical lodge took place on Wednesday , the 13 th inst ., at the Old Boar's Head . Owing to the summer engagements of many of the professional brethren , there was not such a large attendance as is usually seen at these meetings . There were present Bros . A . H .

read and confirmed . The balance-sheet was reported on by the Auditors , and bore a very healthy appearance . It showed the lodge entirely free from debt , after voting 20 guineas to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and making a provision—which was voted later on in the dayof 10 guineas each to the Boys' and Girls' Schools . It is scarcely necessary to state that the reports of the condition

of the lodge funds was most satisfactorily received by all the members . The balance-sheet was adopted , and a vote of thanks passed to Bro . E . VV . Irving , Treasurer , for the admirable manner in which the accounts had been kept . Bro . W . H . Williams , W . M ., retained his seat for the purpose of installing Bro . Allen Avison . Stwd ., the sum of 10 guineas was voted to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institutions for Boys and Girls respectively ; and there being no further business the lodge was closed . The brethren afterwards celebrated the Festival of St .

John with a banquet , which was thoroughly enjoyed by all . The usual toast list was proceeded with after the banquet , the V . W . Dep . Prov . Grand Master , Bro . George Mellor , responding to the toast of his health and expressing his entire satisfaction with all he had seen and heard . Bro . A . H . Williams , I . P . M ., proposed " The Health of the W . M . " in glowing terms , and Bro . Allen Avison , who is highly popular with all the brethren , made a suitable reply . Several other toasts usually included in the Masonic

repertoire were proposed and responded to , and a very enjoyable evening was spent , the brethren being enchanted with some excellent duetts admirably rendered by Bro . Avison on the 'cello , and Bro . Harmer , violin . Gleesj choruses , and solos were well sung by the professional talent so well known there , viz ., Bros . Whittaker , Blacon , Kinnell , W . and N . M . for the next meeting , when , after Bro . Toye has rehearsed a ceremony , Bro . to Bro . W . C . Smith for the very able manner in which he had rehearsed the ceremony of installation . He was sure all the brethren present had been delighted , and all would regret that that was the last time they would have the pleasure of listening to Bro . W . C . Smith ' s working . He felt sure he was expressing the wishes of the brethren in wishing him health , happiness , and prosperity in his new home jn the north , and that though far

away , he would always be remembered with teeungs ot pleasure , especially by those brethren to whom he had imparted much Masonic knowledge . Seconded by Bro . E . A . Morrison , and carried unanimously . Bro . VV . C . Smith made a suitable reply , thanking the brethren for their good wishes for his welfare . He should always remember with pleasure the many happy hours he had spent amongst them , and should take a great interest in the welfare of the lodge , although so far away .

DUKE OF CONNAUGHT CHAPTER ( No 1524 ) . —The installation meeting of this prosperous chap ter was held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , on Wednes day , the 13 th inst . The members present included Comps J . L . Payne , M . E . Z . ; T . Clark , J ., H . elect ; A . J Berry , S . N ., J . elect ; Neville Green , P . Z ., S . E . ; VV Simpson , P . S . ; W . H . The convocation was opened , the minutes of the April meeting read and confirmed , and the Audit report received and adopted . The installation of Principals was next proceeded with , but owing to the unavoidable absence of Comp , J . Funston , the M . E . Z . elect , his installation was postponed . Comps . T . Clark and A . J . Berry were impressively installed into the chairs of H . and J . respectively by Comp .

W . H . Lee , P . Z . The officers invested were Comps . Neville Green , P . Z ., S . E . ; W . Simpson , P . Soj . ; J . H . Rich , 1 st Asst . Soj . ; Cecil Stein , 2 nd Asst . Soj . ; VV . H . Lee , P . Z ., Treas . ; and J . J . Marsh , Janitor . Comp . J . Hoit , the S . N . elect , was unfortunately unable to be present . Comp . W . H . Lee , P . Z ., said a melancholy duty devolved upon him in proposing a vote of sympathy and

condolence with the widow and family of the late Comp . Brasted , P . Z ., who was the first exaltee in that chapter . Having been associated with the deceased companion ior many years , it was with deep feelings of regret that he rose to move the resolution . Comp . Brasted was a man loved and respected by all who knew him ; he was an earnest and zealous Masonhaving presided over the lodge and

, chapter , and having occupied the position of Preceptor of a lodge of Instruction in North-east London , where his kind and genial manner caused him to be respected and esteemed , The members of that chapter had looked up to him as an authority in Koyal Arch Masonry , and whilst being an excellent worker was at all times willing to render kindly assistance . They all felt that in the decease ot Comp .

Brasted they had sustained a great loss , and would unanimously wish to express their regret at his decease , and their teelings of sympathy and condolence with his relatives . Comp . Levey , P . Z ., having seconded the motion , it was carried nem . con . Chapter was then closed . After an excellent repast , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . ,

It showed the lodge entirely free from debt , after voting 20 guineas to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and making a provision—which was voted later on in the dayof 10 guineas each to the Boys' and Girls' Schools . John with a banquet , which was thoroughly enjoyed by all . The usual toast list was proceeded with after the banquet , the V . W . Dep . Prov . Grand Master , Bro . George Mellor , responding to the toast of his health and expressing his entire satisfaction with all he had seen and heard . Bro . A . H . Williams , I . P . M ., proposed " The Health of the W . M . " in glowing terms , and Bro . Allen Avison , who is highly popular with all the brethren , made a suitable reply . Several other toasts usually included in the Masonic

repertoire were proposed and responded to , and a very enjoyable evening was spent , the brethren being enchanted with some excellent duetts admirably rendered by Bro . He was sure all the brethren present had been delighted , and all would regret that that was the last time they would have the pleasure of listening to Bro . W . C . Smith ' s working . He felt sure he was expressing the wishes of the brethren in wishing him health , happiness , and prosperity in his new home jn the north , and that though far

away , he would always be remembered with teeungs ot pleasure , especially by those brethren to whom he had imparted much Masonic knowledge . Seconded by Bro . E . A . , chapter , and having occupied the position of Preceptor of a lodge of Instruction in North-east London , where his kind and genial manner caused him to be respected and esteemed , The members of that chapter had looked up to him as an authority in Koyal Arch Masonry , and whilst being an excellent worker was at all times willing to render kindly assistance .
