H . their esteemed Grand Master , whereby it had set a glaring example to the other Degrees . The Mark Degree had a Benevolent and Educational
Fund that was an example to any institution . They educated their children at home , there was no costly schools to maintain with all their heavy expenditure , nothing but the simple and inexpensive staff at their Grand Lodge . That enabled them so to help their poor and distressed brethren and educate their children without even the shadow of a contest , every case was looked into , and if found worthy , it was at once accepted , without the bother
of an election . The distressed were granted their annuities , and the children educated at their own homes , under the direct care and supervision of their parents , He thanked them for their kind recepti jn of his name , and assured them of the high honour he felt had been conferred on him by their esteemed Grand Master . Bro . Coupland said he had been appointed a Steward of Grand Lodge some time ago , and it was generally thought
to be a stepping-stone to higher honours , but he had not received his promotion yet , yet he felt satisfied , and heartily endorsed the remarks of Bro . Weston . Bro . Col . Vansittart responded for " The Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and said he was proud to be an officer of the Mark in the Province of Kent , more especially as he was in Egypt at the time of his appointment , so that he felt the honour to be more for the lodge than for
himself . He then proposed the toast of "The Worshipful Master , " observing that they had that night seen a specimen of his work in the advancement of the candidates ; and if their W . M . could so well commence his year of office it m ust have a successful and prosperous ending . He asked them to drink the toast loyally , and unite in making the lodge even more successful than it was at present . Bro . Warren could assure them that he felt that to be one
of the proudest moments of his life , to be installed as W . M . of the splendid lodge in such a grand manner as he had been , and in the presence of such a grand gathering of Grand and Provincial Grand Officers . It was a proud thing for him to remember that he was unanimousl y elected , and also that he was enabled to commence his year of office by advancing three such excellent brethren as the candidates that night . He was proud of his officers , who by their good
work had done honour to the lodge . He should endeavour , and he felt sure they would assist him , to maintain the high prestige of the Excelsior Lodge . Bros . Doivnes , Cobham , kobson , Morris , and Bilton severally responded for "The Visitors , " and Bio . Jolly to a hearty reception of his name as " Installing Officer . "
Bros . Sanderson , Chambers , and Orford were toasted as "Advancees , " and severally responded , and Bro . Roberts was specially toasted as " Our Joining Brother , " and then " The Officers " and Tyler ' s toasts concluded the proceedings , whicli were interspersed with sjme excellent singing by Bros . Fowler , Hobson , Spinks , and others .

Arms , Thomas-street , Bro . Capon ' s snug hotel , and was a'l that could be desired . In responding for " The Grand Officers of England , Present and Past , " Bro . Weston said they were all aware of the rapid strides ' that Mark Masonry had made under the benign rule of H . R . H . their esteemed Grand Master , whereby it had set a glaring example to the other Degrees .
