'Ihe usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts having been honoured , that of "The M . W . Fail Amherst , Prov . G . M ., " was proposed and drunk amid great cheering . The toast of " Bro . J . Smith Eastes , D . P . G . M ., and thc rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Prrsent and Past , " followed , and the W . M ,, in the course of his sp : cch , said he had just heard from Bro . Eastes , who regretted his inability to be with them , as he had just returned from a journey , but wished the lodge every prosperity and success . Ihe toast was responded toby Bros . G . Mitchell , P . M . G 15 , P . P . G . D . C . ; Hitchens , P . M . 77 , P . P . G . R . ; and Husbridge , P . M ., P . P . J . G . D .
'Ihe l . P . M . then proposed the toast of "The W . M . " He said he was quite sure from what thiy had witnessed that day that if the Past Masters had shone they mi ^ ht fairly expect their W . M . to blare . Ihe VV . M ., on rising to reply was most enthusiastically received , and said that if he expressed assent to the very eulogistic words of the l . P . M ., he might be charged wiih being egotistical , but he could not wish that they might prove untrue . He heartily thanked Ihtm for the very cordial reception they had given him , and expressed a hope that when his year of office had expired , the brethren might believe he had done his best , even if he had not done well .
In proposing the toast of " The Installing Officer , " the W . M . said the Pattison Ledge was always ready to render honour where honour was due , and there was no brother more worthy of receiving their heartiest plaudits than their Installing 01 i ; er that day . The excellent way in which the ceremony was performed was characteristic in and for the lodge for many years , and no VV . M . could have excelhd Bro . Moore in his zeal and energy , care and forethought , for the best interests of tli ! lolge , and it was because of this knowledge he asked the brethren most cordially to da honour to the toast .
Hro . Moore , in reply , said he was very much obliged to thc brethren for their very kind and cordial reception ; that it had given hirn veiy great pleasure to have installed his successor , and that he did not consider that his services deserved the kind manifeslati . ns of the brethren , as he had only done his duty . The VV . M . then proposed " The Visitors , " remarking that he might remind the
brethren that hospitality had its duties as well as its privileges and pleasures , and that one of thc most impoilait of those duties was to show their visitors that their presence was appreciated , and asked them to show their satisfaction at such a numerous and important an ay of visitors by a hearty and cordial reception of the toast . Bros . Martin , Harris , and Capt . Robson , responded . '
The VV . M . then gave the toast of " The Past Masters , " and eulogised the splendid services rendered the lodge by those excellent Masons , who were always willing to lulp , advise , and criticise , and render any assistance from Preceptorship in a lodge of instruction to helping as Asst . Stewards ; and they were worthy ot the esteem , admiration , and itspcuof every brother of the lodge . Bro . R . J . Cook told the brethren that they should always set high ideals before themselves on Freemasonry , and that there were still higher places for them to reach .
Bro . Captain Murphy said he had b : en a close colleagues ! their W . M . for nearly a quarter of a century , and having brought him into the Pattison Lodge , he felt that he was fully er titled to say that their VV . M . had always displayed the sam : earnest , manly , straightforward , and brotherly line of character that had endeared hi n to the lodge , and was quite sure that at the termination of his year of office they would acclaim hin as one of the best W . Ms , the lodge had ever had , and they one and all wished him a prosperous year of oflice .
Bro . Taylor also responded , and then "The O . licers" and Tyler ' s toasts conclulcl the proceedings . The musical arrangements were under the direction ol IS ; o . Sidney Horton , and added greatly to the pleasure of the evening .

'The lodge was opened at three p . m . punctually by the VV . M ., Bro . T . S . Green , who commenced his labours by passing Bros . F . C . Hippach and M . E . Brooke . Having

Sussex ; Pritchard , P . M , ; Machin , Chapman , Tagg , and others . The usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts having been duly honoured ,
The l . P . M . then proposed the toast of "The W . M . " He said he rose to propose a toast that was at all times drunk with enthusiasm , more especially in the Capper Lodge . Knowing that , he felt it simply impossible to put his feelings into words sufficiently to express his thoughts , or those he would like to express oa the occasion . Their W . M . and he had been closely associated for the last 30 years , and it had been
his privilege to congratulate him on every one of his preferments . It was a great honour for him to have installed Bro . Viney , it might be the last great event of their lives . He could that day play the prophet , because he felt that if the G . A . O . T . U . gave the VV . M . health and strength , th ; w vkinsj , welfare , and prestig ; of fti Cmir Lodge would be , under his rule , maintained in all its ancient lustre and integrity . ( Applause . )
The W . M . who , on rising to respond was received with hearty cheers , said he mast first of all thank tham for their hearty gold tfishes , so kindly expressed towards him , also their hearty and gratifying reception of the toast . He was afraid he hardly des-rved the good things which their l . P . M . had said about him , and was also afraid they would be somewhat disappointed if they expected him to realise the high ideals which their l . P . M . expected of him , but knowing him as Bro . Green had for the last 30 years , he supposed it gave that good brother the right to present him with those
qualifications , in the very pleasant aid flattering manner m which he had mentioned them in proposing the toast . After thanking the brethren for their- unanim HIS election of him as their VV . M ., he said it was now 26 years sines he was initiated , and most of them would probably think it had taken him a long time ta attain his present proud position , and he was afraid that if it had not been for the persuasive po vers of Bro . P . M . Ware , he should not now be occupying it . It was Bro . Ware who appointed him ( the VV . M . ) to his first oflice , that ot Steward of the lodge . He was quite
content to have remained a lay member of the lodge , and to attend and enjoy the society and good felbwship of the brethren , but Bro . Ware had his way , and he ( the VV . M . ) received his collar , which , although worn by the most junior officers of the lodge , is , on such occasions as the present , considered at least to be of some importance . ( Cheers and laughter . ) He merely mentioned the circumstance so that at the end of his year ot oflice , whatever faults or shortcomings might be , that Bco . Ware will he , in some measure , responsible foe them .
( Cheers and laughter . ) Having started , there would be no turning back 01 his part . There were two conflicting feelings animating his breast ; the first was an anxiety as to whether he should be able to sustain that high standard which had been set and so admirably sustained by the whole of the Past Masters of their grand old lodge . The other feeling was of confidence , for he felt sure he could count on the m jst loyal and hearty co-operation of every Past Master , ofther , and brother in carrying -withe duties entrusted to him . There were no factions or cliques in the lodge . Triey were all of
one mind , and working to maintain that good will and brotherly love which characterised Freemasonry . He could only promise that he would do all that lay in his power to maintain that good feeling , and sustain the dignity aid reputation ot the lodge . He should endeavour to make their meetings as harmonious and enj oyable as they had been in the past , and to discharge the duties of his office to their satisfactio 1 . He felt they would look leniently on his shortcomings , and give him credit for trying to do his best , as far as his abilities would allow him . ( Loud and hearty cheering ) .
The next toast was that of " The Installing O licer , Bro . Green , l . P . M ., an ! in the course of a lengthy and eloquent address the W . M . gave a brilliant description of the splendid work done , not only that day , but during his year of office by Bro . Green . Bro . Green was a diligent student of Freemasonry , and a regular attendant at their meetings , from the time he received his first office to the splendid finish that all had witnessed that day . Their thanks were dueto Bro , Grejn for the many veiy enjoyable evenings given by him during his year of oflice , and also for his having hvnded over the
lodge to his successor in a sound financial condition , and with a substantial balame in hand . I le asked them to rise and show their esteemed Bro . Green what they thought of him by the enthusiasm with which they drank to the toast of his health . ( Cheers ) , Bro . Green briefl y responded , thanking the Past Masters , officers , and biethren who had so kindly assisted him during his year of office , for without that help he could not have attained his present proud position as l . P . M . of the lodge . If his working as Installing Officer that day had pleased them he was satisfied . He thanked them mist cordially for their hearty reception of the toast .
In proposing thetoastof "The Visitors , " the VV . M . assured them at all times of a hearty welcome to the Capper Lodge . They were honoured by thc presence of 31 visitors , and some of them , his own personal friends , had come from long distances to greet him as W . M . of this lodge . He hoped they had been interested in the work , and that they had enjoyed themselves , so that profit and pleasure would be the result . ( Applause ) . The toast of "The Past Masters " followed , and in giving it the W . M . said he was pleased to see such a large number of Past Masters present . They had all done sterling
work for the welfare of the lodge . It would be impossible to enumerate their virtues ; but he would be wanting in his duty if he did not mention some of their work . Bro . John Dorton , P . M ., had a grand appetite for work , for beside being their Treasurer , he was also the Preceptor of the lodge of instruction ; Bro . Ware , P . M ., was a brother of most exceptional talent , and for 10 years had carried out bis duty as Secretary in a manner equalled by few , and surpassed by none ; Bro . Taplay was always ready and willing to do anything to further the interests of the lodge , and gracefully performed thedutiesof Dir . of Cer . He also spoke highly of Bros . Maple , P . M ., and Higgins ,
P . M . " The Officers" and Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings , which were enlivened by splendid singing .

M . a Past Master ' s jewel , as a tribute to his skill and ability in the discharge of his important duties during the past year . Bro . Lander spoke most feelingly of his friendship of 25 years' standing with the W . M ., uninterrupted during that long period . The VV . M ., in reply , heartily thanked the bretiren for their kind appreciation of his services during the past year and thepra : tical manner in which they testified their approbation by the handsome jewel pressnted to him . It was a great mutual
pleasure to hirn to endorse the remarks of Bro . L . ndsr with regard to their friendship and its long duration up to ttte present time . The Auditor's report was received , adopted , and ordered to be entered on th ; minutes . After a joining member had been proposed , as also some country members , the corresponding was read by the Secretary , and the lodge closed .
