Craft Masonry.

"The King , the Protecfor of the Craft , " was given by the VV . M ., who alluded to the pessimistic rumours that had lately been so prevalent ; he earnestly hoped they would not be realised ; he was sure the brethren would unite with him in saying " Long life to his gracious Majesty . " " God save the King " was then sung . "The Health of the M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , " having been drunk ,

The W . M . gave the toast of "The M . W . Pro G . M ., the Earl Amherst : the R . W . Dep . G . M ., the Earl of Warwick ; and the rest of the Grand Ollicers , Present and Past . " He spoke of the admirable manner in which Earl Amherst performed his important duty of installing the Duke of Connaught . All the Grand Ollicers were ever ready in many ways to uphold the dignity of their oflice and prove mt onlv ornamjntal but useful members of the Craft . He coupled that toast with VV . Bro . VV . J . Mason , P . G . Std . Br .

Bro . Mason , in reply , spoke of the readiness of all the Grand Ollicers to render assistance when needed , and alluded facetiously to the rest Grand Officers were supposed to enjoy ; from his own experience there was little rest for him—however , he did not complain ; he was ever ready as were all the Grand Officers to be of service in the Craft . He had a very kindly feeling for the Earl of Carnarvon Lodge , and trusted the Grand Architect would long preserve it .

"The Health of the W . M . " was proposed by Bio . Lander , P . M ., D C , who spoke of the unforeseen illness of the W . M . elect , which necessitated Bro . Davis again occupying the chair for the second time—an advantage to the lodge . The W . M . replied , and said he felt very proud of presiding over the lodge for another year . lie would , with the assistance of his officers , keep up the prestige of the lodge . All lodges , like other institutions , are subject to periods of good and ill-fortune —they had passed through depres ing times of late years , but he felt confident a brighter future was in store for the lodge , and he and the brethren ^ jvould help to realise their anticipations . He thanked the brethren one and all for their warm welcome .

The W . M ., in giving the toast of Ihe Visitors , " said the lodge always extended a hearty welcome to them , and that much might be learnt and even avoided by visiting lodges . Bros . VV . J . M . gave "The Treasurer and Secretary , and the Past Mastersof the

Lodge . " lie spoke mest kindly of the regret he shared with th ; brethren at the unavoidable absence through illness of the father of the lodge , Hro . T . H . Parkhouse , Treasurer—he wished him a speedy recovery . He also spoke uf the good service rendered by the Secretary , Bro . J . M . lluish , P . M ., and of the reliable aid on all occa sions ol the Past Masters , naming Bros . Lander , Rogers , and Green , and trusted thsy might long be spared to adorn and support the lodge .

The Tyler ' s least concluded a most enjoyable evening . The musical arrangements were under the able direction of Bro . Frederick and Mrs . Fredciick King , R . A . M ., efficiently accompanied the songs .

The annual installation meeting was held on Wednesday , the 13 th instant , at the Masonic Hall , Reading , there being an unusually large attendance of visitors , including the D . P . G . M . in charge , Bro . J . T . Moiland , Mayor of Abingdon ; the P . G . Sec , Bro . J . W . Martin ; the P . G . Treas ., Bro . E . Margrett ; and a number of other P . P . G Officers ' .

Theretiiing W . M ., Bro . D . N . Heron , P . P . G . S . of Wks ., had been unanimously tequested to retain possession of the chair for a second year , and after he had been duly proclaimed , he invested his officers as follows : Hros . W . B . P . M ., " presenting Bro . Roberts with a handsome jewel of a Past Mister , as a mirr of the brethren ' s appreciation of the services he had i ; ndeiid to the lodga . M ., responded , saying that he had been exceedingly happy during his year , and acknowledging the aid he had received from his olli : eis . Bro . the Rev . J . Henry Smith , P . The lodge was opened by the VV . M ., when the minutes of the last meeting ware read and confirmed . The ballot was taken for Bro . Thomas Voile , Sagamore Lodge , New York , as a joining member . It being favourable , he was admitted to thelites , and welcomed by the W . M . The billot was taken for Messrs . Pircy Smith , II : nry G ;> . Pratt , Reginald Cyrus Row , Geo . U-. tley , and James Harry Baker . It proved unanimous in favour of all the candidites . Messrs . Smith , Pratt , and vVatsin w .-r : i iitiit- ? l by the W . M ., and Messrs . Uttley and Baker by Bro . R . D . Cummin's , P . VI . TI 12 Auditors' report was received , adopted , and ordered to be entered upon the minutes . All Masonic business being ended , the lodge was closed .

The brethren then adjourned to the dining hall . After an excellent dina ; r the Masonic toasts were proposed and honoured . In presenting " The King , the Protector of the Craft , " the W . M . said loyalty was ever the watchword of Freemasons . " God save the King" was sung . The toast of " The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , " having b : sn honoured ,

when he became Treasurer he would have comparative rest ; however , he found he was mistaken , and that at any time he might have unexpectedly work to perform . On this occasion it was a pleasing duty for him to propos : the health ot their excellent W . M . He spoke of the respect and esteem he entertained for the W . M . it was his privilege to give him his first collar of office in thc lodge . He thought the lodge was fortunate in having so able a Master to preside over it .

The VV . M ., in reply , thanked the brethren for their warm reception of the toast so kindly proposed , and assured them he would do his utmost to uphold the interests of the . lodge . In giving the toast of "The Initiates" the W . M . said societies of every kind must of necessity have an infusion of fresh blood to preserve their existence ; he trusted thc ceremony of the evening would seriously impress the candidates ; he spoki of his personal knowledge of some of them , and he vfelt sure that they and their fellow initiates would prove a credit to the lodge . The brethren then adjourned to the dining hall . After an excellent dina ; r the Masonic toasts were proposed and honoured . In presenting " The King , the Protector of the Craft , " the W . M . said loyalty was ever the watchword of Freemasons . " God save the King" was sung . The toast of " The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , " having b : sn honoured ,

"The Healths of the M . W . Pro G . M ., the Earl Amhsrst : the R . W . Dip . G . M ., the Earl of Warwick ; and the rest ot thc Grand OTicers , Present and Past , " were drunk . Bro . J . J . Mercer , P . M ., then gave " The Health of the Worshipful Master , " and said that for years he thought that once a P . M . he should have little more to do , and .

when he became Treasurer he would have comparative rest ; however , he found he was mistaken , and that at any time he might have unexpectedly work to perform . On this occasion it was a pleasing duty for him to propos : the health ot their excellent W . M . He spoke of the respect and esteem he entertained for the W . M . it was his privilege to give him his first collar of office in thc lodge . He thought the lodge was fortunate in having so able a Master to preside over it .

The VV . M ., in reply , thanked the brethren for their warm reception of the toast so kindly proposed , and assured them he would do his utmost to uphold the interests of the . lodge . In giving the toast of "The Initiates" the W . M . said societies of every kind must of necessity have an infusion of fresh blood to preserve their existence ; he trusted thc ceremony of the evening would seriously impress the candidates ; he spoki of his personal knowledge of some of them , and he vfelt sure that they and their fellow initiates would prove a credit to the lodge . 'The initiates bricllv replied .
