The inscription on the jewel was as follows : " Presented to W . Bro . S . Mary Cray to Holborn to hold their banquet at Frascati's Restaurant , Oxford-street , VV ., which was highly appreciate J and excellently served . The W . M . presented the customary loyal and Masonic toasts , which were duly received .

Their lodge had been honoured by Prov . G . Lodge in electing Bro . R . J . Pugh as Prov . G . Std . Br ., and the brethren were indeed proud that so worthy a . brother had been chosen . He should couple with the toast the name of Bro . R . J . Pugh .

In reply , Bro . R . J . Pugh said lie was extremely gratified for thc manner thc toast had been proposed and received by the brethren oh behalf of the Prov . G . Ollicers , who carried out their duties in an exemplary manner . He also thanked the l . P . M . for so kindly giving way to allow him to instal his brother into the chair . It had been his great privilege to instal five Masters during the last six years , and the VV . M . was only the Steward when he himself was Master of the lodge . He was pleased to be engaged in the service of the lodge , for which he had a great love , and never wished to sever his connection therewith .

Bro . S . Gale , l . P . M ., said he had the honour and pleasure of proposing the toast of "The VV . M ., " which he did in most cordial terms . The W . M . had performed his various duties with great credit , and he trusted he would have a most successful year , and he assured him he would have the most hearty support of every brother in the lodge . The toast was received most cordially .

The VV . M ., in reply , said he was grateful for thc kind words the l . P . M . had said of him , and remarked if he ever attained to the efficiency with which the l . P . M . and the P . Ms , had carried out their duties in the chair he should be indeed proud . It was 10 years since he was initiated , and he should endeavour to fill thc chair honourably and with dignity , and pciform the duties to the best of his ability ; and if he failed , he knew he had the help of the worthy Past Masters , who would support him in all his undertakings . 1 Ic most heartily thanked them .

Bro . F . Lewis , S . W ., next proposed the toast of the evening— "The Initiate" —in commendable terms , congratulating him and the lodge on his membership , and thc brethren had no doubt that from the rapt attention paid to the beautiful ceremony he would go forward , and prove himself a worthy brother in the lodge . In teply , Bro . Burgess said he responded with mixed feelings of pljasure an J

disappointment , the latter , inasmuch as it was an agreeable one , after the many remarks about the ordeal he had to go through . However , it was the greatest day in his life , and he was extremely satisfied . Indeed , from what he had already learnt , he was delighted , and he hoped to prove a good Mason , and would do his btst for the Craft into which he had thrown his lot , and he most heartily thanked them .

Secretaiy all knew his steiling worth ( and none better than the VV . M . ) , and the excellent service he had rendered to the lodge since his initiation , and more particularly since his accepting the Stcretaryship the last six or seven years . The lodge was to be congratulated up'm having such a worthy body of Past Masters . In response , Bro . F . Stanger , P . M ., Treas ., thanked the brethren for their trust reposed in him . He was very pleased to accept , being one of the oldest members and

was delighted to see good and true young blood joining the lodge , and still further a proposition that evening , which augured well for the prosperity of the lodge .. Bro . R . J . Pugh , P . M ., Sec , also thanked the brethren on behalf of the Past Masters , cf which he was the senior , and reminded them of the willingness of his brother Past Masters to assist him in the work of the lodge whenever circumstances required , and further their endeavours to attend regularly at the meetings and thus assist materially in preserving the unity of the members of the lodge .

The W . M ., in proposing the toast of " The Ollicers , " said Lodge 2147 had always complimented itself on its officers , and those invested that evening were quite up to the usual standard of excellence . The S . W . and J . W . most ably responded , and each pledged himself to do his utmost to uphold its credit . The Tyler ' s toast closed a very happy and enjoyable meeting .

A capital programme of music was arranged by Bro . Walter James , very ably assisted by Madame Helen Coleman , Miss Nelly Beare , Mr . W . E . Minaton , Mr . Hy . McLeod , Mr . Fullerton , and Bros . Lodge was opened and the minutes confirmed , after which the S : civ !' . ar / read a letter from Bro . W . Thomas , P . M ., resigning the offLe hf Treasurer and his membership of . he lodge . The W . M ., in moving that the resignation be accepted with deep regret , said that no man had been more deservedly respected in the lodge than Bro . W . Thomas , and they were extremely sorry to lose him . At the audit meeting Bro ; Thomas had declared his intention of resigning and all that persuasive eloquenc ; could do was showered upon his devoted head to get him to alter his decision , but he rigidly

adhered to it . Bro . R . J . Smerdon , P . M ., was unanimously elected Trjasiirer , ani on his proposition a sum of 2 . 5 guineas was voted to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys on the Master elect ' s li"t . The resignation of Bro . H . J . Allcroft , son of the distinguished brother after whom the lodge was named , was accepted with regret . Bro . Sam Garcia , P . M ., who for many years has rendered splendid service as D . C , was installed as W . M . by Bro . Nathan Robinson , P . M ., whose fine rendering of the ritual fittingly closed a successful year of oflice . The sacred solo , "Be thou faithful unto

death , " was well sung by Bro . Herbsrt Emlyn , accompanied by Bro . J . Kift ( organ ) , and Bro . J . E . Hambledon (' cello obligato ) . The officers invested were Bros . Nathan Robinson , l . Duval ! , Arthur Benjamin , and Ernest Wallis , Stwds . ; and R . H . Goddard , Tyler .

" Hearty good wishes " were tendered by the visitors and the lodge was closed . After a splendid banquet , th j usual toasts wer * honoured . Bro . Geo . Everett , P . G . Treas ., replying for "The Grand O . Ticers , " expressed the honour and pleasure conferred upon him by having his name associated with so important a toast . He was pleased to respond as a P . G . Treas . in this lodg :, as it was associated with the name of a brother who broke down the barrier of exclusivjness and brought about the annual election of G . Treasurer . Bjfore Bro . Derby Allcroft ' sdiys , '

Bro . Tompkins held the office for 23 years . They rejoiced at the change to annual elections , for there were only two elective officers in Grand Lodge—as in an ordinary lodge—the Grand Master and Grand Treasurer . They looked upon this as a Grand Treasurer ' s lodge because Bro . Allcroft was the first to break down the barrier . There was a chance now for any brother who had performed his duties in a manner satisfactory to the Craft to attain the position of G . Treasurer . Bros . A . C Spaull , P . A . G . D . C , and J . ] . Thomas , P . G . S . B ., also replied .

The VV . M . then proposed Ihe Masonic Charities , " and referred to one of the boys in the Boys' School—a son of a former member of the lodge—who had shown such cleverness that he had been retained in the School to receive the benefits of a higher education . He ( the W . M . ) intended to represent this lodge as Steward for the Boys' School , and thanked the lodge for the 25 guineas voted , as he wanted a list worthy of this lodge . Bro . J . M . McLeod , P . G . S . B ., Sec . R . M . I . B ., having observed that all three Masonic Institutions were worthy of support , said the W . M . ' s appeal was more

particularly directed to the Boys' School . He felt that that Institution had a particular claim upon this lodge , which was a comparatively young but a successful lodge . No lodge had had a better illustration of the advantages of the Masonic Institutions than this , for it had had four boys who had been elected to the Boys' School . The lodgf had been most generous to all thc Institutions , particularly the Boys , and was asked again to be generous for the reason that the W . M . had announced his intention of acting as Steward to the Institution , to which four boys from the lodge had been elected . If the

lodge had not been generous it would not have possessed the voting power to be successful . He was glad to hear the W . M . lefer to tne boy who was to rece ' we higher education , which would fit him to occupy a higher position than usual . The brethren might take the lesson to heart of a brother who was in good circumstances , which justified his admission as a member . Before he took the Second Degree he had broken

down , and his child came before the Boys' School , and was elected . All the brethren knew , Irom the excellent reports furnished , how thc work of the Institution was going on . They were engaged in building new Schools , and hoped to take in a larger number of boys than was possible in their limited sphere of operations . He thanked the lodge for the 25 guineas voted , and hoped the members would enable the W . M . to take up a record list from a lodge which had received such benefits from the Institution .

Bro . Nathan Robinson , 1 . P . M ., said that it was no mean task he had to perform in proposing " The Health of the W . Master , " especially considering the fact that if he had health and strength he should have to propose the toast live times during the W . M . ' s year . As what he said that night might be brought up in evidence against him next time , he was in an unenviable position . He was echoing the sentiments of the members in saying the VV . M . had commenced in a most satisfactory manner , and they would be doing credit to him and honouring themselves by sending him up with a good list for the Boys .

Bro . Sam Garcia , P . M ., VV . M ., returned thanks , and said he felt proud of thc position in which they had placed him . He had to folio * such goad Masters and workers that he feared for himself in being able to do a > will as they had done . Hs would , however , do his best to msrit tha continuities of thiir approval . H ; hadhop ; d the S . W . would have gone on into tho chair , bot whin his o , vn namj was propossi at the election it afforded him an immensi amount of satisfaction . The members had only seen him in one oflice since he joined the lodge—D . C—and he had s ; en many initiated and pass through the chair . The feeling in th * lodge was gooJ , an ! he how ; i it wouU continue so for many years .

The W . M ., in most cordial terms , presented the toast of " The Visitors , " which was fully and appreciatively responded to by Bros . Lonsdale , Chas . H . Stone , Fraser , Chas . W . Stone , Clemow , and Hattersley . The toast of ' 'Ihe l . P . M . " was next presented by thc VV . M . in terms of eulogium as to his faithfulness and exceptional working and as a worthy brother . Bio . Gale , I P . M ., responded in an able and most befitting manner .

Bio . L . Pugh , W . M ., in placing the toast of " The Past Masters , I reasurer , and Secretary , " said they were a most able array and worthy of emulation . He was delighted that Bro . F . Stanger , P . M ., had accepted the mandate of the brethren and had become their Treasurer , and he would prove one of the very best . Of thc Bro .

Craft Masonry.

was delighted to see good and true young blood joining the lodge , and still further a proposition that evening , which augured well for the prosperity of the lodge .. Bro . R . J .

Lindley Darby and Walter James ( Bro . Walter James' Concert Party ) . Mr . Manaton ably presided at the piano .
