M ., proposed "The Health of Bro . Kershaw , their newlv-installed VV . M . " He was sorry to say that Bro . Kershaxv had been very ill during the past xveek and it xvas only his strong desire that the brethren
might not be disappointed that evening which had caused him to come amongst them at some risk to himself . In electin-r Bro . Kershaw they had elected a master xvho had the interests of the lodge at heart and xvho xvas sure to do all in his poxver to promote its xvelfare and to promote the happiness of the brethren over xvhom he ruled . He ( "Bro . Hitchcockl honed the brethren would support Bro .
Kershaxv during his period of office xvith the same kindness and cordiality as that which they had accorded to himself . Bro . Kershaw ' s condition had interfered somexvhat with his working on the present occasion . They all knew him as an able worker , and he hoped that his restoration to health would be immediate and complete and that he xvould be able in future to perform his duties xvith his accustomed
skill and energy . ... Bro . Kershaw said that he had to thank the brethren very heartily for drinking his health , and he trusted that during the year of office he xvas noxv entering on he xvould be able to perform his duties to their satisfaction . Hitchcock as a mark of their appreciation of his merits as a Master . He could only say himself that Bro . Hitchcock- richly deserved it . He ( Bro . Kershaxv ) was glad to have the opportunity of presenting that jexvel , with the
earnest xvish that Bro . Hitchcock might live long to wear it in Freemasons' lodges ; and xvhoever saxv it he trusted would be inspired by the sight to endeavour to attain the same high honour . At the same time he had the pleasure to invest him with thc collar of a Past Master which had also been presented by the brethren . Bro . Hitchcock in returning thanks said he xvas very
proud of the present xvhich had been made to him ; and he was still prouder to be able to remember that when the matter was proposed to the lodge the vote was unanimous—every brother put his hand up . It afforded him great gratification to reflect that he had achieved something during his year of office , that he had left the affairs of the lodge in a better condition than that in which he found them : indeed they

The toast of " The Visitors " was responded to by Bro . L . Lewis , P . M . isoS . who thanked the VV . M . and brethren for the cordiality xvith xvhich the numerous visitors present
had been received , and expressed the pleasure which they had had in witnessing thc xvorking in the lodge , and the further pleasure they had experienced in partaking of their hospitality . The musical arrangements xvhich xvcre entrusted to Bro . Theodore Distin xvere highly satisfactory . He xvas assisted by Miss Louisa Distin , his daughter , and Master Distin
Mr . John Pietroni , as vocalist , and by T . J . , who performed a solo on the violin . Miss Distin also presided at the pianoforte . This young lady deserves a word of praise . She possesses a very pretty voice and sings , as xvell as plays , xvith feeling , spirit and good taste . She certainly delighted her audience of the Westbourne Lodge , and xvas encored more than once .
GRANITE LODGE ( No . 1328 ) . —Thc installation meeting of this lodge took place at Freemasons' Hall on the 10 th inst ., and was very well attended , there being a large number of members and over 30 visitors present . The lodge was opened by thc W . M ., Bro . 1-rank Kirk , and after the confirmation of thc minutes Bro . John Oswald Gardner , S . W . and VV . M . elect , was presented for in
installation and the ceremony was very ably performed the presence of a Board of 40 Installed Masters by Bro . B . Turner , I . P . M . The W . From the Auditors' report it xvas gratifying to find that the lodge had alter jiaying all liabilities a large balance to their credit . The lodge xvas then closed in ancient form , and the brethren and their friends numbering about 100 dined together in the gorgeously decorated nexv saloon at the Holborn Restaurant , xvhich had been specially finished for
the occasion . After the usual loyal toasts were given , Bro . I . Lewis-Thomas , F . S . A ., P . A . G . D . C , responding to that of "The Grand Officers , " "The Health of thc W . M . The musical arrangements xvhich xvere admirable were managed by Bro . Frederick West , P . M . and Treasurer , xvho had engaged some youthful choristers xvhose charming voices xvcre much admired . Messrs . Hodges and loxver also sang some excellent songs , and Mr . Hoyte gave a pianoforte solo . . The Tyler ' s toast broughta very agreeable entertainment to a close .

admonishing the lodge to be temperate in its expenditure , that it might , if possible , make a greater mark in the Craft than it had already done . Bro . Bray xvas afterxvards raised to the Sublime Degree of a M . M . by the W . M . Bro . Cantle , P . M ., as D . C , then presented Bro . R . G . Shute ( xvho had been duly elected by the brethren as W . M . elect in consequence of tne inability of Bro . Carrington , he at the present time being W . M . of the Acacia Lodge at
Bromley ) to the VV . M . to receive the beneht ot installation , which the W . M . gave him as Sat as opening in the Third Degree , xvhen Bro . J . Williams , P . M ., took the chair and completed the ceremony and addresses in such an excellent manner as to call forth the praise of every brother in the lodge . Bro . Shute , the nexv Master , had not entered upon his duties xvithout due thought , for his manner of investing his officers was perfect , and beyond that a kind word fell to

Nielson ' s list , xvho xvould represent the lodge as Steward at that festival . Thc lodge being closed the brethren adjourned to a most sumptuous banquet served in the Croxvn Room , xvhich gave satisfaction to both members and visitors . Grace having been sung the VV . M . gave the usual toasts , which were heartily
responded to . In proposing "The Worshipful Master ' s Health" Bro . Nielson said he xvas pleased his first duty xvas to propose the health of a brother who by his excellent working had already proved himself to be thc right man in thc right place . He had xvorked steadily through the different offices and by his zeal had endeared himself to all the brethren . The Worshipful Master in reply said he had at last arrived at the height of his ambition , and his endeax-our
xvould be to shoxv that he xvas worthy of being a ruler in the Craft and Master of the Creaton Lodge . In proposing " 'The Initiate" the Worshipful Master said he had known Bro . Cook for many years and was sure he xvould prove a worthy Mason . In proposing " 'The P . Ms . " he said he had first to express regret at the absence of Bro . Col . Creaton , then to thank the P . Ms , for their assistance already given , and to Bro . Nielson it xvas
his very pleasing duty to place upon his breast a substantial token of the brethren ' s good feeling and xvishes towards him in the shape of a handsome P . M . ' s jexvel , and might the G . A . O . T . U . give him health to wear it and come amongst them for many years . With regard to Bro . Williams he had been the admiration of all present , or rather his xvork had , for the manner in xvhich he had installed him xvas simply perfect . Hexvas pleased to see Bro . Johnson
once more in his place xvith the P . Ms . In reply Bro . Nielson said he was very much obliged to the VV . M . and brethren for their kind token of esteem . He knexv he had not been perfect , but had tried to do his best , and if that best had pleased and satisfied the lodge he xvas amply repaid . He now asked them for a last favour and that xvas to support him well in his Stexvardship and that he might have as good a result as had attended Bros .
P . Ms . Cantle , Johnson , and Williams xvho had proceeded him . Bro . J . Williams , P . M ., thanked them for their xvarm appreciation of his humble services , he was ready to believe he had done it xvell , but as he had learned all he knexv in the lodge so they must put doxvn xvhat he had done to the lodge itself . In proposing "The Treasurer and Secretary" the
W . M . said the Creaton Lodge had the best in the Craft , at all events they thought so . 'The latter xvas alxvays ready to teach or to do , in fact he xvas the backbone of the lodge , and the former xvas ever kind and generous to a fault . The Treasurer and Secretary replied briefly . Thc Secretary in finishing said : Brethren , you have already sent up Stexvards xvith a gross amount of nearly £ 700 ; 1 hope
you xvill keep up the charter and let our Bro . Neilson ' s list be one of the largest at the festival . "The Visitors" toast xvas responded to by Bros . Flatterly , P . In acknowledging the toast of " The W . M ., " Bro . Johnson expressed briefly his thanks to the brethren for the

Major Dods in a vigorous speech , in which he stated his conviction that privacy should be strictly observed in distributing thc funds , and deprecated the idea of sending children to other than Masonic schools . Bro . Bonfelloxv replied in a capital speech , and exhorted the brethren to still further exertions on behalf of the Charitable Institutions .

Nielson said he xvas pleased his first duty xvas to propose the health of a brother who by his excellent working had already proved himself to be thc right man in thc right place . He had xvorked steadily through the different offices and by his zeal had endeared himself to all the brethren . The Worshipful Master in reply said he had at last arrived at the height of his ambition , and his endeax-our
xvould be to shoxv that he xvas worthy of being a ruler in the Craft and Master of the Creaton Lodge . In proposing " 'The Initiate" the Worshipful Master said he had known Bro . Cook for many years and was sure he xvould prove a worthy Mason . In proposing " 'The P . Ms . " he said he had first to express regret at the absence of Bro . Col . Creaton , then to thank the P . Ms , for their assistance already given , and to Bro . Nielson it xvas
his very pleasing duty to place upon his breast a substantial token of the brethren ' s good feeling and xvishes towards him in the shape of a handsome P . M . ' s jexvel , and might the G . A . O . T . U . give him health to wear it and come amongst them for many years . With regard to Bro . Williams he had been the admiration of all present , or rather his xvork had , for the manner in xvhich he had installed him xvas simply perfect . Hexvas pleased to see Bro . Johnson
once more in his place xvith the P . Ms . In reply Bro . Nielson said he was very much obliged to the VV . M . and brethren for their kind token of esteem . He knexv he had not been perfect , but had tried to do his best , and if that best had pleased and satisfied the lodge he xvas amply repaid . He now asked them for a last favour and that xvas to support him well in his Stexvardship and that he might have as good a result as had attended Bros .

M ., thanked them for their xvarm appreciation of his humble services , he was ready to believe he had done it xvell , but as he had learned all he knexv in the lodge so they must put doxvn xvhat he had done to the lodge itself .
