The Secretary then read to the lodge the bye-laws , and in conformity therewith the
brethren proceeded to ballot for a W . M . and afterwards for a Treasurer for the ensuing year ; the choice fell respectively upon Bro . Godolphin , S . W ., as W . M . elect , and Bro . Wm . Musto , P . M ., was re-elected to fulfil the honourable position of Treasurer . Both these svorthy brethren returned thanks , and promised to do the utmost in their power to advance the interests of the Friars Lodge . Bros . H . Marks , J . Cohen , and W . J . Musto svere appointed to
conduct the lodge audit and report thereon at next meeting , and the lodge svas closed in harmony . The brethren subsequently joined the W . M . in drinking the health of the newly-initiated brother , svho expressed his thanks to the lodge for admitting him in that ancient and very honourable society , and especiall y thanked his proposer and seconder for their good offices in recommending his name to the lodge , and the meeting concluded .

The business before the lodge included the balloting for and initiation of Mr . J . Bailey , which ceremony was conducted by Bro . Fennell in an impressive and conscientious manner . Bro . R . Rolfe was afterwards passed to the Degree of F . C . An important alteration in the bye-laws svas at the instance of the esteemed I . P . M . fully discussed ,
resulting in the alteration in the date ot meeting from the second MondaytothefirstTuesdayinthemonthsof meeting . After receiving the " Hearty good wishes" of the visitors , the lodge was closed in peace and harmony , and the brethren sat down to a banquet presided over by Bro . Wright , P . P . G . J . W . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts svere given and honoured .
Bro . Webster , S . W ., in proposing "The Health of the W . M . " remarked that very little was required from him to recommend the toast to the notice of the brethren , because Bro . Bland by his genial conduct , kind manner and excellent svorking had endeared himself to all svho knew him .
The Worshipful Master replying said he entered upon his year of office svith some anxiety , because in the brethren svho had preceded him there svere those who were better qualified , but they might rely on him paying the greatest attention to his duties , and to keep up the prestige of the lodge . He svould endeavour to give them satisfaction , and when he left the chair hoped to take svith him the
esteem of the brethren . Bro . Whittaker , P . M ., proposed "The Health of the Visitors , " and in a very able speech assured them that it was always a great pleasure to the brethren of the Arboretum Lodge to entertain them , for no matter from svhence they came or how often , they svere always heartily svelcome . _ Bro . acknosvledged the generous hospitality of the Arboretum Lodge , and congratulated the VV . M . on the proud position he had attained , namely , W . There svas not a large attendance , but the visiting brethren included Bros . Dewhurst , P . M ., and King , of Garstang . The lodge having
been opened svith the usual formalities , and the minutes of the previous meeting confirmed , Bro . VVhitfock gave proofs of his proficiency as an E . A . and svas passed to the Degree of a F . Wingrove answered the necessary questions and svas duly passed to the Second Degree by the VV . M . j the S . W . delivered the charge , and the J . VV . explained the svorking tools . The svork svas performed in
the masterly style for svhich this lodge has been long distinguished . There being no candidates proposed for initiation at the next regular meeting , Bro . Capt . Croisdale , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B ., very kindly consented to deliver an address to the brethren on the subject of " Masonic Education , " and to offer some suggestions for the
consideration of thc brethren svhich he thought svould not only add to the popularity of their meetings , but would also make them both pleasing and instructive . Bro . Capt . Croisdale informed the brethren that on this occasion he should address them more particularly svith regard to that part of the E . A . charge svhich enjoined upon them the duty of endeavouring by every means in their power to make a
" daily advancement in Masonic knowledge . " Bro . Major Douglas , P . M . and P . P . G . S . B ., expressed the pleasure with svhich the members of the lodge had received this intimation , and he svas quite sure they would listen to Bro . Capt . Croisdale's address svith a great deal
of pleasure , and he proposed that a notice of it should be entered on the lodge summons and that the attendance of the brethren belonging to the other local lodges should be cordially invited , svhich having been seconded , svas carried unanimously . " In the course of his speech , after having touched upon the subject of the toast he proceeded to euloirise the svorking of the Wolsey Lodge . He
said he was particularly struck with the very excellent svay in which the Secretary of the lodge had performed the ceremony of installation , and taking everything into consideration he believed that No . 1 ( 356 was second to none in the province . In conclusion , upon behalf of his colleagsses and himself he thanked them for their kind reception and profuse hospitality .

The Worshipful Master replying said he entered upon his year of office svith some anxiety , because in the brethren svho had preceded him there svere those who were better qualified , but they might rely on him paying the greatest attention to his duties , and to keep up the prestige of the lodge .
