Peterken discharging his duties in the chair faithfully and svell . Subsequently a notice of motion in the name of Bro . Friedeberg svas submitted and held over for a future meeting . The Secretary then read to the lodge the bye-laws , and in conformity therewith the

brethren proceeded to ballot for a W . M . and afterwards for a Treasurer for the ensuing year ; the choice fell respectively upon Bro . Godolphin , S . W ., as W . M . elect , and Bro . Wm . Musto , P . M ., was re-elected to fulfil the honourable position of Treasurer . Both these svorthy brethren returned thanks , and promised to do the utmost in their power to advance the interests of the Friars Lodge . Bros . H . Marks , J . Cohen , and W . J . Musto svere appointed to

conduct the lodge audit and report thereon at next meeting , and the lodge svas closed in harmony . The brethren subsequently joined the W . M . in drinking the health of the newly-initiated brother , svho expressed his thanks to the lodge for admitting him in that ancient and very honourable society , and especiall y thanked his proposer and seconder for their good offices in recommending his name to the lodge , and the meeting concluded .

BROMLEY ST . LEONARD LODGE ( No . 1 S 05 ) . — This successful representative Lodge , held a meeting on Monday , the 12 th inst ., at the Vestry Hall , Bow-road . Bro . R . T . Fennell , W . M . presided , and svas fairly supported by his officers and the brethren , amongst svhom svere Bros . W . Bramham , I . P . M . ; Marsh , P . M . j VV . J . Rawley , Sec . ; J . Collier , Treas ., and others .

The business before the lodge included the balloting for and initiation of Mr . J . Bailey , which ceremony was conducted by Bro . Fennell in an impressive and conscientious manner . Bro . R . Rolfe was afterwards passed to the Degree of F . C . An important alteration in the bye-laws svas at the instance of the esteemed I . P . M . fully discussed ,

resulting in the alteration in the date ot meeting from the second MondaytothefirstTuesdayinthemonthsof meeting . A capital but plain supper follosved , and a happy hour or so svas thoraughly enjoyed over toast and song , and the brethren separated . Among the visitors svere Bros . DERBY . —Arboretum Lodge ( No . 731 ) . —The brethren of this lodge held their anniversary and installation meeting on Wednesday , the 14 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Gower-street , when the following brethren were present : Bros . The lodge svas opened and the minutes of the last meeting svere read and confirmed . The ceremony of installation svas next proceeded with , Bro . G . Cay , VV . M ., acting as Installing Master . Bro . J oseph Bland svas duly presented and installed into the chair of K . S . in ancient and solemn form . Thc VV . M . then appointed and invested his officers as follows : Bros . G . Cay , I . After receiving the " Hearty good wishes" of the visitors , the lodge was closed in peace and harmony , and the brethren sat down to a banquet presided over by Bro . Wright , P . P . G . J . W . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts svere given and honoured .

Bro . Webster , S . W ., in proposing "The Health of the W . M . " remarked that very little was required from him to recommend the toast to the notice of the brethren , because Bro . Bland by his genial conduct , kind manner and excellent svorking had endeared himself to all svho knew him .

The Worshipful Master replying said he entered upon his year of office svith some anxiety , because in the brethren svho had preceded him there svere those who were better qualified , but they might rely on him paying the greatest attention to his duties , and to keep up the prestige of the lodge . He svould endeavour to give them satisfaction , and when he left the chair hoped to take svith him the

esteem of the brethren . Bro . Whittaker , P . M ., proposed "The Health of the Visitors , " and in a very able speech assured them that it was always a great pleasure to the brethren of the Arboretum Lodge to entertain them , for no matter from svhence they came or how often , they svere always heartily svelcome . _ Bro . Butterfield , VV . M . 10 S 5 , in responding

acknosvledged the generous hospitality of the Arboretum Lodge , and congratulated the VV . M . on the proud position he had attained , namely , W . M . of the largest lodge in the province , and svas sure from the long time they had worked together in Masonry , he would discharge the duties of the chair svith credit to himself and satisfaction to the brethren . He then apologised for the absence of Bro . C . W . Radway ,

P . M . 41 , P . P . G . S . W . Somerset , and on his behalf presented the W . M . svith a copy of the history of that very old and highl y respected lodge . The Worshipful Master , in proposing "The Health of the Past Masters of the Lodge" stated the brethren would greatly regret the absence of thir svell known , zealous , and efficient Bro . A . W . M . and responded to by Bro . Copestick , J . W ., and C . Webster , S . W . The other toasts svere proposed and duly honoured , and the brethren spent a most enjoyable evening together . The Tyler's toast concluded the proceedings .

LANCASTER—Rowley Lodge ( No . 1051 ) . — The monthly meetingof this lodge was held in the Masonic Rooms , Athen-eum , on the 5 th inst ., Bro . John Cutts , W . M ., occuping the chair of K . S . There svas not a large attendance , but the visiting brethren included Bros . Dewhurst , P . M ., and King , of Garstang . The lodge having

been opened svith the usual formalities , and the minutes of the previous meeting confirmed , Bro . VVhitfock gave proofs of his proficiency as an E . A . and svas passed to the Degree of a F . C , tlie ceremony being svell performed by the W . M ., the working tools being given by Bro . Arthur Stanley , S . VV . Several communications svere read , and the lodge svas subsequently closed svith the usual ceremonial .

ALDERSHOT . —Aldershot Camp Lodge ( No . ¦ 33 1 )* —The regular meeting of this lodge svas held on VVednesday , the 14 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall . Bro . Adams , VV . M ., presided , supported by Bros . Robertson , S . W . ; Barlow , J . W . j Captain Croisdale , P . M ., and P . P . G . Swd . Br ., Treas . ; Major Douglas , P . M ., and P . P . G . S . B ., Sec . ; Col . Richardson , P . M ., P . G . D . ; Capt .

Cole , P . M ., iP . P . G . P . ; Todd , S . D . j Adnett , I . G . j Lapham , Norton , Harrison , and others . After the minutes of the last regular meeting had been read and confirmed , Bro . Wingrove answered the necessary questions and svas duly passed to the Second Degree by the VV . M . j the S . W . delivered the charge , and the J . VV . explained the svorking tools . The svork svas performed in

the masterly style for svhich this lodge has been long distinguished . There being no candidates proposed for initiation at the next regular meeting , Bro . Capt . Croisdale , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B ., very kindly consented to deliver an address to the brethren on the subject of " Masonic Education , " and to offer some suggestions for the

consideration of thc brethren svhich he thought svould not only add to the popularity of their meetings , but would also make them both pleasing and instructive . Bro . Capt . Croisdale informed the brethren that on this occasion he should address them more particularly svith regard to that part of the E . A . charge svhich enjoined upon them the duty of endeavouring by every means in their power to make a

" daily advancement in Masonic knowledge . " Bro . Major Douglas , P . M . and P . P . G . S . B ., expressed the pleasure with svhich the members of the lodge had received this intimation , and he svas quite sure they would listen to Bro . Capt . Croisdale's address svith a great deal

of pleasure , and he proposed that a notice of it should be entered on the lodge summons and that the attendance of the brethren belonging to the other local lodges should be cordially invited , svhich having been seconded , svas carried unanimously . There being no further business the lodge svas then closed .

HAMPTON WICK . — Wolsey Lodge ( No . 1656 ) . —The installation meeting of this , one of the most successful lodges of the Province of Middlesex , was held on the 12 th inst ., at the White Hart Hotel . VV . ; T . C . Walls , D . C ; and Hopwood , I . G . The ceremony throughout svas most excellently svell performed , the addresses in particular being impressively

A . W . S . A vote of thanks having been passed to the ^ Installing Officer for his services and a similar compliment paid to Bro . Nuttall , ex-Treasurer , a Past Master ' s jewel svas presented to Bro . Hurst in recognition , of his services as a founder and W . M . Bro . Hurst having duly acknowledged the compliment the lodge svas closed and the brethren adjourned to the banquet .

Upon the removal of the cloth the customary toasts svere proposed and loyally honoured . IV . Bro . Inglis , P . G . W ., responded upon behalf of "The Provincial Grand Officers . " In the course of his speech , after having touched upon the subject of the toast he proceeded to euloirise the svorking of the Wolsey Lodge . He

said he was particularly struck with the very excellent svay in which the Secretary of the lodge had performed the ceremony of installation , and taking everything into consideration he believed that No . 1 ( 356 was second to none in the province . In conclusion , upon behalf of his colleagsses and himself he thanked them for their kind reception and profuse hospitality .

Mahood , Peat , Knight , and Hunt having each said a few words in response , The toast of " The Visitors " gave Bro . Elsam in reply an opportunity of passing some well deserved compliments

upon the general svorking of the lodge and its thorough unanimity . " The Installing Officer " follosved and svas responded to in modest terms by Bro . Ockenden . "The Past Masters" svas acknowledged bv Bros . Hurst and W . Hammond , and "The Officers" by Bro . Forge , S . W . The proceedings svhich svere throughout most successful then terminated .

HAMPTON . —Hemming Lodge ( No . 1512 ) . The last meeting for the season of this lodge svas held at the Lion Hotel , on the 15 th inst . Among those present were Bros . Hiscox , VV . M ., Treasurer , and Tyler respectively resulted unanimousl y in favour of Bros . Moody , Hopsvood , and Gilbert . Previously to the lodge being closed a Past Master ' s jewel svas unanimously voted to the outcoin" * VV . M . * h "

the brethren then adjourned to refreshment , and upon the removal of tlie cloth the customary toasts received full justice . Bro . Hopwood responded upon behalf of " The Prov , Grand Officers . "

" The Health of theW . M . " follosved . In proposing this toast the I . P . M . congratulated the lodge upon possessing a W . M . who was so svell up in the svorking of the rituals as to require little or no assistance from the Past Masters , and he ( the speaker ) hoped that in October the W . M . would complete his excellent year ' s svork by installing his

successor . The Worshipful Master having responded then gave " The Initiates , " to which Bros . Singleton and Eales replied .

the Visitors " came next in order , Bro . Hartley , S . D . of the Honor Oak Lodge , acknowledging the compliment . The toasts of " The Past Masters , " " The Treasurer , " " The Secretary , " and " The Officers " terminated the proceedings . ¦—HEPBURN . —Perseverance Lodge ( No . 1643 ) . —The monthly gathering of the brethren of the above

lodge svas held in the Masonic Hall , when there svas a goodly attendance . The lodge svas opened in due form by Bro . George Hardy , W . M ., svho svas assisted by his full complement of officers . Bro . Dr . Norman was passed to the F . C Degree by the W . M ,, and that being all the business the brethren adjourned to the luncheon room , where a pleasant and harmonious evening svas enjoyed .

C ARSHALTON .-WaUington Lodge ( No . 1892 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge svas held on Thursday , the 15 th inst ., at the Public Hall , under the presidency of the W . M ., Bro . John G . Horsey , P . M . There was a considerable attendance of members of the lodge , and there svere also many visitors svho had come to do honour to the occasion of the installation of Bro . VV . benefits of installation . Bro . Horsey thereupon addressed the lodge on the subject of the election of Master , and Bro . Pile having then as required given his unqualified assent to the ancient charges read to him by the Secretary , was obligated by the W . M . in the usual form . A board of Installed Masters was then formed , and Bro . Pile svas formally installed by Bro . Horsey into the chair of K . S ..

and afterwards addressed the Master , Wardens , and brethren according to ancient form . It is only necessary to observe that the whole of the ceremony svas performed by Bro . Before the lodge svas closed the Worshipful Master claimed the attention of those present svhile he endeavoured to discharge a very pleasant duty that rested on him . He had to present to Bro . Horsey an elegant Past Master's jesvel , svhich had been voted by the lodge as a mark of their appreciation of the svay in which he had discharged the duties of his office during the past year . Bro . Horsey acknowledged the compliment in a few appropriate svords . A telegram svasreceived . from Bro . Greenwood , jun ., Prov . Grand Sec . Surrey , expressing regret that urgent business prevented his being present . The lodge svas then closed in due form . The brethren of the lodge and their visitors aferwards dined together at the King's Arms , Carshalton , and on

the removal of the cloth the customary loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed from the chair and duly honoured by the brethren . The first toast upon the list , as the Chairman said , svas here as upon all similar occasions that of " The Queen and the Craft , " and svas as usual warmly welcomed . "'

Rolfe was afterwards passed to the Degree of F . C . An important alteration in the bye-laws svas at the instance of the esteemed I . P . M . fully discussed ,

Bro . Webster , S . W ., in proposing "The Health of the W . M . " remarked that very little was required from him to recommend the toast to the notice of the brethren , because Bro . Bland by his genial conduct , kind manner and excellent svorking had endeared himself to all svho knew him .

The Worshipful Master replying said he entered upon his year of office svith some anxiety , because in the brethren svho had preceded him there svere those who were better qualified , but they might rely on him paying the greatest attention to his duties , and to keep up the prestige of the lodge . He svould endeavour to give them satisfaction , and when he left the chair hoped to take svith him the

esteem of the brethren . Bro . Whittaker , P . M ., proposed "The Health of the Visitors , " and in a very able speech assured them that it was always a great pleasure to the brethren of the Arboretum Lodge to entertain them , for no matter from svhence they came or how often , they svere always heartily svelcome . _ Bro . " In the course of his speech , after having touched upon the subject of the toast he proceeded to euloirise the svorking of the Wolsey Lodge . He

said he was particularly struck with the very excellent svay in which the Secretary of the lodge had performed the ceremony of installation , and taking everything into consideration he believed that No . 1 ( 356 was second to none in the province . In conclusion , upon behalf of his colleagsses and himself he thanked them for their kind reception and profuse hospitality .

M . who was so svell up in the svorking of the rituals as to require little or no assistance from the Past Masters , and he ( the speaker ) hoped that in October the W . M . would complete his excellent year ' s svork by installing his

successor . The Worshipful Master having responded then gave " The Initiates , " to which Bros . Singleton and Eales replied .

Horsey an elegant Past Master's jesvel , svhich had been voted by the lodge as a mark of their appreciation of the svay in which he had discharged the duties of his office during the past year . Bro . Horsey acknowledged the compliment in a few appropriate svords . A telegram svasreceived . from Bro . Greenwood , jun ., Prov . Grand Sec . Surrey , expressing regret that urgent business prevented his being present . The lodge svas then closed in due form . The brethren of the lodge and their visitors aferwards dined together at the King's Arms , Carshalton , and on

the removal of the cloth the customary loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed from the chair and duly honoured by the brethren . The first toast upon the list , as the Chairman said , svas here as upon all similar occasions that of " The Queen and the Craft , " and svas as usual warmly welcomed . "'
