office , which he certainly looked upon as the proudest of his life , for he had been admirably supported by the whole of his officers and the brethren generally . They in that lodge were one chain in brotherly love and union , and if the links of that chain only kept together in harmony , he could see even a better prospect before them than they even now had . That lodge room was , as every lodge should

be , a trysting place for the brethren to meet and be happy , and if that principle were carried out , nothing could ever shake the foundations of the lodge or mar its prosperity . He again thanked them for their handsome support of his Stewardship , and hoped to see the lodge one day a Vice-Patron of all the Charities . The "Past Masters" having been toasted , "The

Initiates , " were honoured , and both having returned thanks , the toast of " The Visitors " was received with applause , and in response , Bro . Naylor thanked the W . M . and brethren for their reception of the toast , which , if not a " Nelson " fire , yet

certainly had somewhat of the " Up Guards and at ' em " style about it . He hoped to see a number of the Waterloos at the Nelson the following week , and promised them all a hearty and cordial reception . Several other toasts followed , and the singing and reciting were excellent .

NEATH . —Cambrian Lodge ( No . 3 64 ) . —The installation of Bro . E . Grant as W . M . of this lodge took place on Tuesday , the 13 th inst ., when , although the weather was very stormy , a large numberof influential brethren were present , amongst whom were Bros . Tennant , D . BANBURY . —Cherwell Lodge ( No . 599 ) . —The 37 th anniversary festival of this lodge took place at the Masonic Hall on Monday , the 27 th ult ., uoon which occasion the VV . M . 's chair was taken by Bro . T . S . Palmer , P . M ., M . E . Z ., P . P . J . G . W ., P . G . 1 st Asst . Soj ., whose thorough knowledge of Masonry , and whose great services to the Craft justly entitle him to the highest honour that it

is in the power of a Provincial Grand Master to bestow . The ordinary business having been disposed of , two brethren were passed to the Second Degree , the ceremony being performed in an exceedingly able manner by the W . Master , assisted by the officers of the lodge . The W . M . elect , Bro . W . R . Cooper , Prov . G . D ., was then presented , the ceremony of installation being performed in a masterly

and impressive manner by Bro . Palmer , who was highly complimented by several _ distinguished brethren from London and the neighbouring Province of Warwickshire . Bro . Wells , P . Cash , and Morris , who expressed their gratification at the exceedingly pleasant evening they had spent ; they also spoke in enthusiastic terms of the work , and said that in the whole range of their Masonic experience they had never seen the ceremonies more ably performed . Such a compliment must have given great pleasure not only to the W . M . and

officers , but to every member of the Cherwell Lodge . "The Officers of the Lodge , " to which Bros . W . E . Wood and C . F . Edmunds responded . Bro . J . S . Wells presided at the piano , glees and songs being sung at intervals throughout the evening by Bros . G . E . Sykes , C . Windsor , C F . Edmunds , W . I . Tohnson . 1 .

S . VVells , VV . Page , and other brethren . There is , fortunately , no lack of musical talent in the lodge , and the excellent singing always adds very much to the charm of these meetings . The Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings , and put a finish to one of the most enjoyable gatherings that the members of the Cherwell Lodge ever held .

BIRKENHEAD . —Combermere Lodge ( No . 605 ) . —The annual installation meeting of this lodge took place on Thursday , the 15 th instant , at the Queen ' s Hotel . There was a large attendance of members and friends to Witness the ceremony of installation , which was performed

and N . Peaccck , Org . The Treasurer's statement showed the very satisfactory balance of £ 47 . The P . M . 's jewel to Bro . Grant was presented by Bro . M'Nerney , on behalf of the lodge , with a feeling allusion to the good fellowship and happiness which had prevailed throughout the past year . Bro . Shaw moved that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the worthy Treasurer , who for 18 years had so

well and thoroughly performed his duties , and that the lodge take steps to present him with a a mark of their esteem . The vote was passed with acclamation . The excellent banquet was served by Bro . de Board , and the usual toasts were fully honoured . The musical portion of the evening was given by Bros . Kirkham , Edwards , Higinbottom , Forrester , C Roberts , and S . Proudman .

DERBY . —Arboretum Lodge ( No . 731 ) . —The anniversary of the above lodge took place on Wednesday evening , the 14 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Gower-street . This lodge is one of the largest and most prosperous lodges in England , and is the strongest in the Province of Derbyshire . The attendance was very numerous , brethren coming from different parts of the shire , not merely out

of compliment to the new Worshipful Master , Bro . J . W . Biigg , but in recognition of the valuable and conscientious labours of his predecessor , Bro . Abraham Woodiwiss . The ceremony of installation was admirably rendered by Bro . Woodiwiss , Bro . J . Bland , P . P . J . G . D ., efficiently aciing as Director of Ceremonies . The new Master subsequently invested and appointed his officers in the following order :

Gee supplemented these remarks by remarking-, amid the cheers of the brethren , that the past year had been one of

the happiest and most prosperous in the history of the lodge . The banquet was partaken of by about a hundred brethren . The proceedings throughout were of a very hearty and enjoyable character , the musical arrangements , under the direction of Bro . W . L . Dodd , P . P . G . Org ., being very much appreciated .

WEST DERBY . —Pembroke Lodge ( No . 1 299 ) . —The excellent installation meeting of the members of this lodge was held on the 15 th inst ., at Rawlinson ' s Hotel , and it clearly indicated that prominent success continues to attend the existence of this branch of the Masonic Order . The chair at the opening of the interesting proceedings was taken by Bro . T . A . Withey , the

retiring W . M ., and , besides a full complement of P . M . ' s , Senior and Junior officers , and numerous private members , there were present the following visitors : Bros . John Houlding , P . . 32 S . The lodge was opened by the W . M ., when the minutes were read arid confirmed . Before proceeding with the formal business on the agenda paper , the W . M . intimated that Bro . C P . Waite , I . G ., who was about to leave Torquay , would be presented with a token of the brethren ' s regard and esteem , and called upon Bro . W . J . Hughan

P . G . D . England , & c , to make the piesentation . Bro . Hughan , in the course of a happy speech , expressed the esteem in which the brethren held their courteous and genial brother , and expressed the hope that his new sphere would be a successful one , so much so , as the Jordan Lod"e regretted to lose him . He ( Bro . Hughan ) hoped he would soon make a fortune and then come and settle down

in that beautiful Torquay , and work again in the Jordan Lodge . In asking Bro . Waite ' s acceptance of such valuable works as Bro . John Lane's " Masonic Records , " and the " Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry " by Albert G . Mackay , with addendums by Charles McClenachan , together with a beautifully framed list of the subscribers , he hoped they would be handed down as heir-looms to generations yet

unborn . The framed list was headed " Presented with two valuable Masonic works to Bro . Charles Percy Waite ( on the occasion of his leaving Torquay ) by the members of the Jordan Lodge of Freemasons , No . 1402 , Torquay , with their sincere wishes for his future welfare . —March 13 th , A . D . iSSS , A . L . 58 SS . " Bro . Waite replied with feeling ; being so completely

taken by surprise he could only say " Thanks . " 'Ihe ballot was then taken for Messrs . C . H . S . J . Hill and Robert Pickard , which was in favour of both candidates , who , being present , were initiated according to ancient custom by Bro . B . Knight , P . M ., in a very able and efficient manner . "Hearty good wishes" were expressed by the visiting brethren , and the lodge was closed ,

The brethren to the number of 32 then partook of refreshments provided by Bro . W . Taylor , whose catering gave great satisfaction . After ample justice had been done to the good things and the cloth removed , the W . M . proposed the toast of " Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen , " followed by "The Health of the M . W . G . M ,, H . R . H . the Princeof Wales , " both of which were received with due honours .

The Worshipful Master then proposed " The Pro Grand Master , Deputy Grand Master , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " also " I he R . W . Prov . Grand Master and Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past , " to which Bros . J . Dodge and J . Lane responded . Bro . J . Dodge proposed in appropriate terms "The Health of the W . M . "

The Worshipful Master responded in graceful language , and said he loved Masonry and endeavoured to cany out its grand principles of brotherly love , relief , and truth in every day life . Other toasts followed , and altogether the proceedings were of a most enjoyable nature , a particularly pleasant evening being spent , of which those present will long retain the happiest recollection . The lodge is in a most flourishing condition .

CUCKFIELD . —Ockenden Lodge ( No . 1465 ) . — The annual installation meeting of the brethren ot this lodge was held on Tuesday afternoon , the 13 th inst ., at the Talbot Hotel . office , which he certainly looked upon as the proudest of his life , for he had been admirably supported by the whole of his officers and the brethren generally . They in that lodge were one chain in brotherly love and union , and if the links of that chain only kept together in harmony , he could see even a better prospect before them than they even now had . That lodge room was , as every lodge should

be , a trysting place for the brethren to meet and be happy , and if that principle were carried out , nothing could ever shake the foundations of the lodge or mar its prosperity . He again thanked them for their handsome support of his Stewardship , and hoped to see the lodge one day a Vice-Patron of all the Charities . The "Past Masters" having been toasted , "The

Initiates , " were honoured , and both having returned thanks , the toast of " The Visitors " was received with applause , and in response , Bro . Naylor thanked the W . M . and brethren for their reception of the toast , which , if not a " Nelson " fire , yet

certainly had somewhat of the " Up Guards and at ' em " style about it . He hoped to see a number of the Waterloos at the Nelson the following week , and promised them all a hearty and cordial reception . Several other toasts followed , and the singing and reciting were excellent .

M'Nerney , on behalf of the lodge , with a feeling allusion to the good fellowship and happiness which had prevailed throughout the past year . Bro . Shaw moved that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the worthy Treasurer , who for 18 years had so

well and thoroughly performed his duties , and that the lodge take steps to present him with a a mark of their esteem . The vote was passed with acclamation . The excellent banquet was served by Bro . de Board , and the usual toasts were fully honoured . The musical portion of the evening was given by Bros . Kirkham , Edwards , Higinbottom , Forrester , C Roberts , and S . Proudman .

DERBY . —Arboretum Lodge ( No . 731 ) . —The anniversary of the above lodge took place on Wednesday evening , the 14 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Gower-street . This lodge is one of the largest and most prosperous lodges in England , and is the strongest in the Province of Derbyshire . The attendance was very numerous , brethren coming from different parts of the shire , not merely out

of compliment to the new Worshipful Master , Bro . J . W . Biigg , but in recognition of the valuable and conscientious labours of his predecessor , Bro . Abraham Woodiwiss . The ceremony of installation was admirably rendered by Bro . Woodiwiss , Bro . J . Bland , P . P . J . G . D ., efficiently aciing as Director of Ceremonies . the happiest and most prosperous in the history of the lodge . The banquet was partaken of by about a hundred brethren . The proceedings throughout were of a very hearty and enjoyable character , the musical arrangements , under the direction of Bro . W . L . Dodd , P . P . G . Org ., being very much appreciated .

WEST DERBY . —Pembroke Lodge ( No . 1 299 ) . —The excellent installation meeting of the members of this lodge was held on the 15 th inst ., at Rawlinson ' s Hotel , and it clearly indicated that prominent success continues to attend the existence of this branch of the Masonic Order . Waite , I . G ., who was about to leave Torquay , would be presented with a token of the brethren ' s regard and esteem , and called upon Bro . W . J . Hughan

P . G . D . England , & c , to make the piesentation . Bro . Hughan , in the course of a happy speech , expressed the esteem in which the brethren held their courteous and genial brother , and expressed the hope that his new sphere would be a successful one , so much so , as the Jordan Lod"e regretted to lose him . He ( Bro . Hughan ) hoped he would soon make a fortune and then come and settle down

in that beautiful Torquay , and work again in the Jordan Lodge . In asking Bro . Waite ' s acceptance of such valuable works as Bro . John Lane's " Masonic Records , " and the " Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry " by Albert G . Mackay , with addendums by Charles McClenachan , together with a beautifully framed list of the subscribers , he hoped they would be handed down as heir-looms to generations yet

unborn . The framed list was headed " Presented with two valuable Masonic works to Bro . Charles Percy Waite ( on the occasion of his leaving Torquay ) by the members of the Jordan Lodge of Freemasons , No . 1402 , Torquay , with their sincere wishes for his future welfare . —March 13 th , A . taken by surprise he could only say " Thanks . " 'Ihe ballot was then taken for Messrs . C . H . S . J . Hill and Robert Pickard , which was in favour of both candidates , who , being present , were initiated according to ancient custom by Bro . B . Knight , P . M ., in a very able and efficient manner . "Hearty good wishes" were expressed by the visiting brethren , and the lodge was closed ,

The brethren to the number of 32 then partook of refreshments provided by Bro . W . Taylor , whose catering gave great satisfaction . After ample justice had been done to the good things and the cloth removed , the W . M . proposed the toast of " Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen , " followed by "The Health of the M . W . G . M ,, H . R . H . the Princeof Wales , " both of which were received with due honours .

The Worshipful Master then proposed " The Pro Grand Master , Deputy Grand Master , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " also " I he R . W . Prov . Grand Master and Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past , " to which Bros . J . Dodge and J . Lane responded . Bro . J . Dodge proposed in appropriate terms "The Health of the W . M . "

The Worshipful Master responded in graceful language , and said he loved Masonry and endeavoured to cany out its grand principles of brotherly love , relief , and truth in every day life . Other toasts followed , and altogether the proceedings were of a most enjoyable nature , a particularly pleasant evening being spent , of which those present will long retain the happiest recollection . The lodge is in a most flourishing condition .

CUCKFIELD . —Ockenden Lodge ( No . 1465 ) . — The annual installation meeting of the brethren ot this lodge was held on Tuesday afternoon , the 13 th inst ., at the Talbot Hotel .
