The toasts given were , it is scarcely necessary to say , free
from the usual Masonic accompaniments , and having honoured those of "The Queen , " " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , H . R . H . the Princess of Wales , and the rest of the Royal Family , " The M . E . Z . proposed that of "The Royal Masonic Institutions , " taking the opportunity to remind those present of the great good done by all those Institutions by giving a
concise statement of the figures , drawn from the annual reports of each . Following this , the M . E . Z . proposed the toast of the evening , " The Robert Burns Chapter , " and in connection with this said it was his pleasant duty to refer to Comp . Land , P . Z ., S . E ., to whom the present satisfactory condition—nay , evn the very existence of the chapter at the
present time—was mainly due . Comp . Land was exalted in the chapter in 1 S 76 , and installed First Principal in 1 SS 1 , when the balance due to the Treasurer was very considerable , and no grant had yet been made to any of the Masonic Institutions . Comp . Land was elected in 1 SS 2 to the office of S . E ., and his efforts to place the affairs of the chapter in a more satisfactory state had been so far successful that at
the audit in 1 SS 4 there was a balance to the credit of the chapter . This balance has been increased from year to yeaT , and duni . g the last six years the chapter has granted four substantial donations to the various Masonic Institutions . This statement of affairs , said the M . E . Z ., speaks eloquently , and it would therefore be no surprise to the visitors , if the members deemed this jubilee commemorative
anniversary , a fitting opportunity to express in a tangible form their great appreciation of the services rendered by so able an executive officer , and , further , it was a special gratification to him ( the M . E . Z . ) that the jubilee anniversary should have occurred during his year as First Principal , and thus the pleasing duty of presenting Comp . Land with a silver salver should devolve unon him .
Comp . Land , in responding , congratulated the chapter on its excellent financial position , and expressed his unbounded pleasure that in carrying out his duties he had gained the confidence and support of the members , remarking that this particular meeting was the first during the history of the chapter at which any but members of the Order were present , he suggested that an outing
should be arranged , when he hoped the members would again meet with their wives , daughters , and friends , and repeat the success of the present evening . He thanked the companions ior their tasteful and elegant present , which , as an ornament , would be admired , and in use prove a constant reminder of the appreciation of his services as Sciibe E . to the Robert Burns Chapter .

Z . ; Staley , P . Z ; Hardy , P . Z . ; and many others . Several names for exaltation having been handed in , the chapter was duly closed . A banquet followed .
Ihe M . E . Z ., but recently recovered from severe indisposition , presided most ably . In response to the toast of his health , proposed in happy terms by Comp . Cleghorne , P . Z ,, he said that during his year of office he had been sorely stricken by illness , that had prevented his active exertions on behalf of th ! chapter , but he had endeavoured to contribute to their amusement at the banquet table , thanks to
the kind assistance of the members of his own family and friends . He had to thank the members of the chapter very much for the voles of sympathy that they had from time to time passed , and he should look back with pleasure to the many happy hours he had passed in their midst . During the evening the M . E . Z . ' s talented daughters discoursed most eloquent music , instrumentally and vocally .

Z ., sent apologies for nonattendance . The chapter was then closed , and an excellent banquet followed . Comp . J . VV . Gaze presided most genially , the full list of toasts was not carried out , the M . E Z . preferring vocal harmony to post-prandial oratory .
