THE SPRING SCHOOL ELECTIONS .

The voting papers for the School Elections next month have just been issued , and we are glad to find that so large a proportion of the candidates , especially in the case of the Boys' School , will be elected . As we announced last week , the election into the

ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR BOYS will take place a week later than usual—at the Quarterly Court of Governors and Subscribers , which will be held at the Freemasons' Tavern on Friday , the 20 th April , at the hour of noon ;

and at 1 p . n > . or when the regular business of the Court has been disposed of , the poll will be opened for the election of 30 boys from an approved list of 42 , which between now and tlie appointed day will be reduced , by the withdrawal of one of the

candidates , to 41 . Of these London furnishes 12 , and has a a joint interest with a Province in two other cises , while the remaining 27 are furnished by the Provinces or Districts abroad . Among the London 12 are No . 3 , who has already taken part in

four elections , and brings forward 1995 votes in support of his lifth attempt , while No . 5 , who has stood three elections , is still better circumstanced , with 279 8 votes in hand . Nos . 6 and 9 , who were among the candidates at both of last year ' s elections ,

bring forward , in the former case 3 8 4 6 votes , and in the latter 3457 votes , so that their friends and supporters ought not to xperience any serious difficulty in securing their admission "Ho the School on this occasion . The other London boys

rank on the list as Nos . 24 , 25 , 26 , 29 , 33 , 34 , 37 i and 38 , and are all new candidates , whose claims have been acknowledged since last election , while the two in which London has a joint interest with a

Province . Nos . 19 and 31 , are also new to the experience of the ballot . Of the 27 boys hailing from the Provinces and Abroad , Kssex is responsible for three , Nos . ir , 13 , and 14 , who are all candidates that failed last October , and of whom No . 13 has this

one and only chance left him of winning a place among the successful . All of them , however , bring forward votes , No . 11 having 1321 to his credit , No . 13 , 136 3 votes , and No . 14 , 27 ( 1 9

votes . Sussex furnishes two candidates , No . 10 with 2718 votes obtained in October last , and a new candidate at No . 30 , Suffolk is also responsible for two , namely , No . 15 , who is

fortunate enough to have 2533 votes in hand towards his last remaining chance , and No . 28 . Cambridgeshire is likewise responsible for two new cases , at Nos . 22 and 23 , respectively , and of these No . 23 must win a place this time or his name will

be removed from the list . The other Province from which two candidates derive their claims is Buckinghamshire , who contributes Nos . 1 and 32 , the latter being a new candidate , while No . 1 has accumulated in the course of his six previous ballots

2324 votes , which will serve him in good stead next month ,- when he must win a place or disappear from the list altogether . The other 16 boys hail from the following , namely , No . 2 from West Lancashire , who enters upon his

seventh and last chance , with 162 votes to the good , and No . 4 from Auckland , N . Z ., who has 211 votes in hand from three ballots . No . 7 Hants and the Isle of Wight and the Punjab brings forward 88 9 votes from his two attempts last year , while

the Devonshire boy , at No . 8 , who has also had two tries , has 1164 votes to his credit . No . 12 from the Province of Hants and the Isle of Wight polled 2800 votes in October last , but the others are mentioned in the list for the first time—No . 16 from

Derbyshire ; No . 17 from Hertfordshire ; No . 18 from Middlesex ; No . 20 from Lincolnshire ; No . 21 from Worcestershire ; No . 27 from West Yorkshire ; No . 35 from Leicestershire and Rutland ; No . 36 from Northumberland ; No . 41 from South

W ales ( W . D . ); and No . 42 from Durham . Of the whole 41 boys , 32 are fatherless and one is motherless , while four have both parents living and four have lost both . There is also about the usual proportion of cases in which the lather held rank in the Craft and supported one or more of our Institutions .

part interest in three others , and the Provinces and Abroad 17 candidates . The London contingent includes No . 2 , who starts with 1039 votes from last year ' s elections ; No . 6 , who has also been twice a candidate , but brings forward onl y 280

votes towards her one remaining chance of success ; Nos . 8 , 9 , and 10 , who polled 853 , 1658 , and 2345 votes respectively in October last ; No . 12 , who makes her second and final attempt next month , with 3 . 240 votes to her credit ; No . 14 with 8 31

votes , and No . 15 with 16 75 votes in hand from the October election ; and four new cases at Nos . 17 , 20 , 29 , and 31 . The three girls in whom London has a part interest are also new cases , and are placed on the list at Nos . 18 ,

27 , and 28 . West Lancashire and Kent send up two cases each , the two from the former being at No . 1—and having only 265 votes to her credit towards her fourth and last chanceand No . 24 , while the Kentish girls are Nos . 21 and 32 . The
