Hewday and Coates were passed . The lecture on the tracing board in the Second

Degree was given by Bro . W . B . Dyson . Bro . Whytehead presented to thc lodge on behalf of Bro . G . Chapman , J . VV ., a very handsome mahogany book-case with a glass front , which had been placed in a recess in thc smoke room , and in which the Masonic medals and other curiosities belonging to the lodge had been placed . Also on behalf of Bro . Simpson , P . M ., and Bro .

R . Ware , two volumes for the lodge library . A vote of sympathy was also passed with Bro . W . Stephenson , I . G ., who was dangerously ill , and the Secretary was instructed to write to him conveying the good wishes of thebrethren . On the motion of the Treasurer , a sum of ^ 25 was voted

from the lodge funds to the Building Fund . After the close of the lodge , the brethren adjournded to the smoke room , and a most harmonious evening was passed , the usual toasts being honoured , while songs were contributed by Bros . Sir F . Milner , T . B . Whytehead , H . Mennell , J . Mennell , W . B . Dyson , W . G . Fricker , and others .

alluded to the death of theW . M ., and proceeded with the "lodge of sorrow . " Bro . the Rev . H . M . Maugham , as Chaplain , pronounced the funeral oration , and prior to the closing of the " lodge of sorrow , " invoked the blessing of the G . A . O . T . U . Letters of sympathy and apology for non-attendance were read from V . W . Bro . J . S . Eastes , D . P . G . M ., and several other well-known brethren .

On the proposition of Bro . the Rev . H . M . Maugham , S . W ., it was unanimously resolved " That a vote of condolence be recorded on the minutes of the lodge and forwarded to the widow and family of our late VVorshipfuI Master , Bro . the Rev . A . C Graystone , conveying to them the expression of our deepest sympathy with them in the great bereavement they have sustained , and earnestly praying

that the Most High will comfort and sustain them in this dark hour of trial and sorrow , and enable them to look beyond the darkness of the tomb to the Light and Lifc beyond . The brethren of the Graystone Lodge have to deplore in the death of their VVorshipfuI Master , one who always took the deepest interest in its welfare , and has always shown by his action , sympathy with all its works of

Charity and mercy , that the true principles of our ancient Order have ever animated his conduct as a Mason . Long will his memory be enshrined in the hearts of the brethren , and the annals of this lodge—the name of which we trust will be for him an endearing monument for many generations . " The brethren left the lodge in procession in reverse order

to which they entered , and immediately dispersed to their respective homes . An emergency lodge was held on Wednesday , the 14 th inst ., under the presidency of Bro . G . Barton , I . P . Hill proposed the new byelaws ; but , owing to the late hour , the discussion was adjourned until Tuesday , the jth of May , because the lodge will not meet

on 27 th of April . It ( was proposed and seconded that Bro . F . J . Tnll be the W . M . for the 4 th of May , which was carried unanimously , the working to be lirst ceremonies and the " new bye-laws . " A vote of thanks was given to thc VV . M . of 119 , now exalted to the Supreme Degree , and on the last Friday of this month has to be advanced to the honourable Degree of Mark Master , durinrr

his father ' s Mastership . Truly we may add on behalf of our ancient Craft , "Teach him the way he should go , and he will not depart from it . " On the motion of the M . E . Z ., supported by Comp . Barr , the sum of 10 guineas was voted to the Preparatory School Fund . Two candidates were proposed for exaltation , and the chapter was closed in due form . An hour was afterwards spent in the banquet hall , where the loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

TOTNES . —Pleiades Chapter ( No . 710 ) . —The annual meeting of this chapter was held at the Masonic Hall on 'Thursday , the Sth inst ., when the following companions were installed as Principals : Comps . Degree was given by Bro . W . B . Dyson . Bro . Whytehead presented to thc lodge on behalf of Bro . G . Chapman , J . VV ., a very handsome mahogany book-case with a glass front , which had been placed in a recess in thc smoke room , and in which the Masonic medals and other curiosities belonging to the lodge had been placed . Also on behalf of Bro . Simpson , P . M ., and Bro .

R . Ware , two volumes for the lodge library . A vote of sympathy was also passed with Bro . W . Stephenson , I . G ., who was dangerously ill , and the Secretary was instructed to write to him conveying the good wishes of thebrethren . On the motion of the Treasurer , a sum of ^ 25 was voted

from the lodge funds to the Building Fund . After the close of the lodge , the brethren adjournded to the smoke room , and a most harmonious evening was passed , the usual toasts being honoured , while songs were contributed by Bros . Sir F . Maugham , as Chaplain , pronounced the funeral oration , and prior to the closing of the " lodge of sorrow , " invoked the blessing of the G . A . O . T . U . Letters of sympathy and apology for non-attendance were read from V . W . Bro . J . S . Eastes , D . P . G . M ., and several other well-known brethren .

On the proposition of Bro . the Rev . H . M . Maugham , S . W ., it was unanimously resolved " That a vote of condolence be recorded on the minutes of the lodge and forwarded to the widow and family of our late VVorshipfuI Master , Bro . the Rev . A . C Graystone , conveying to them the expression of our deepest sympathy with them in the great bereavement they have sustained , and earnestly praying

that the Most High will comfort and sustain them in this dark hour of trial and sorrow , and enable them to look beyond the darkness of the tomb to the Light and Lifc beyond . The brethren of the Graystone Lodge have to deplore in the death of their VVorshipfuI Master , one who always took the deepest interest in its welfare , and has always shown by his action , sympathy with all its works of

Charity and mercy , that the true principles of our ancient Order have ever animated his conduct as a Mason . Long will his memory be enshrined in the hearts of the brethren , and the annals of this lodge—the name of which we trust will be for him an endearing monument for many generations . " The brethren left the lodge in procession in reverse order

M . of Craft Lodge , very ably gave the charge . The lodge was lowered to the First Degree . Nothing further offering for thc good of Freemasonry , or of this lodge in particular , the same was closed in due and ancient form .

Z ., supported by Comp . Barr , the sum of 10 guineas was voted to the Preparatory School Fund . Two candidates were proposed for exaltation , and the chapter was closed in due form . An hour was afterwards spent in the banquet hall , where the loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .
