brethren , from Scotland , I would say that when I visited you the other day , I had a most hearty welcome , and I now give to you , in the name of the Great Priory of England , the expression of their wish lhat you may go on and prosper as well as we are doing here . I greet you
heartily . I now beg to move that this Great Priory put on its minutes a hearty vote of thanks to those delegates from the Great Priorv of Ireland and Scotland , who have done so ^ much in order to visit us to-day , while at the same time we acknowledge the heartiness of their kindness whenever we have gone to visit them .
The GREAT SENESCHAL : I have the greatest pleasure in seconding the vole of our Most Eminent Grand Master . I cannot add anything * lo what he has said , and I am certain that this vote will be carried with
acclamation . The vote was carried wilh much heartiness and with acclamation . The Earl of KINTORE ( Great Seneschal of Scotland ) , Most Eminent and Supreme Grand Master , speaking for the Templars of Scotland , first let me say how much I regret that your kind words were not personally heard by Lord Breadalbane , our Grand Master . I know how anxious he
was to be here and I feel that I am a very inefficient substitute for him . Then I may be permitted to say that he and we all feel keenly the pleasure that you have been so good as to express . We are all now in absolute amity and goodwill . We thank you heartily for the warmth of your welcome , which warmth shows how amicably and warmly we now all pull together . I hope this is only one of the first of many similar meetings and the
precursor of one in which the Chapter General of Scotland may be able 1 o return the hospitality now so kindly extended by the Great Priory of England . { SIR CHARLES CAMERON ( Great Chancellor of Ireland ) . * Most Eminent and Supreme Grand Master , I have been asked by the Knights who have come from Ireland to say to this Great Prrory lhat they feel more than compensated this day for having braved the horrors of
the Channel passage lo come here ( laughter ) , they feel that the bsnefits they will have derived from you here to-day have more than repaid them for any discomforts they may bave sustained on the journey . We th nk you heartily for the truly knightly reception , of which we shall ever entertain a grateful recollection , as well as of the many kind expressions which have fallen from your Grand Master . We are a poor country , we come here pooily clad—( laughter)—but on looking around these walls and the magnificence of your
appointments , there comes to our minds that question of that three millions per year which you are said in England to have been taking from us , and we wonder how much of it has gone in these magnificent decorations . ( Laughter ) . But , apart from this pleasantness , we know lhat there is such a warm feeling of friendship unto us , that it is wilh no envious feel'ngs that we admire all that we have seen in this Great Priory to-day . We congratulate you on your prosperity , and we hope that we have your sympathy with the poorer brethren of the Sister Isle .

Accordingly I declare this Great Priory for the time being to be a Preceptory under the Banner of the Faith and Fidelity Preceptory , and I will call upon V . E . Kni ght General Hay , C . DEVON MASONIC EDUCATIONAL FUND .
The annual meeting of subscribers to the Devon Masonic Educational Fund was held on Wednesday afternoon , the 7 th instant , at the Freemasons' Hall , Plymouth . Bro . E . H . Shorto presided , and a large attendance included Bros . M Tracy , E . Roseveare , S . Jew , W . Powell , R . D . Renwick , F . W . Atherton , G . Dunsterville , W . Allsford , W . Trevena , E . H . Littleton , C . Watson , E . G .

Foster , J . R . Lord , Hon . Treas . ; J . B . Gover , Hon . Sec . ; and W . H . Dillon , Hon . Asst . Sec .
The Treasurer ' s report showed that the total funds at the end of last year amounted to £ 1716 6 s . gd ., as compared with . £ 1586 4 s . 7 d . in the previous year . Bro . LORD mentioned also tV . at last year ' s receipts included a sum of ^ 104 6 s . nd ., the net proceeds of a concert given under Bro . Willoughby's able conductorship in Plymouth Guildhall in December last . ( Applause . ) There were 19 children
now on the Fund , and by the election , which would take place at that meeting , that number would be increased to 22 . That they were able to educate and clothe so large a number of children , and at the same time to maintain their income at such a satisfactory figure showed that the Fund had a strong hold on the sympathy of the brethren throughout the province . ( Hear hear . )
The CHAIRMAN , in moving the adoption of the report , said he had lately been going into the question , and it was a disappointment to him to find that the contributions to the Fund represented an average of only about £$ or £ 6 per lodge throughout the province . The splendid result of the last concert at
Plymouth was beyond all praise , and he hoped that the brethren of those lodges that did not yet subscribe to the Fund would at once awaken to a sense of their responsibility and do something that was really worth doing to help so deserving an Institution . ( Applause . ) The motion was seconded and carried .
The officers of the Institution were alt re-elected and cordially thanked for ¦ . heir past valuable and gratuitous services , and the Management Committee were also re-elected . There were six candidates for three vacancies on the Fund , and the result of the ballot was that a child nominited from Torquay headed the list with 956 votes , a Devonport case came next with 894 votes , and a case from Exmouth was third with 702 votes . The unsuccessful candidates polled 529 , 30 , and 26 votes respectively . These will be carried forward to their credit at the next election .

FIRST ANNUAL BALL OF THE ST . JOHN ' S LODGE OF INSTRUCTION , No . 167 .
On thc ist instant , there was held at the Constitution Hall , Harlesden , N . W ., under the auspices of the above lodge , the first Masonic dance . A dispensation was granted by the M . W . G . M . to wear Craft and Royal Arch clothing and jewels , and this , with the variegated and brilliant colours of the ladies' dresses , gave a most pretty tout ensemble to the gathering . Special efforts were put forward to make the event a great success and brilliant function . Each lady , during the •/ ening , was
presented with a cut-glass bottle , holding two ounce * of thc finest quality perlume , and considering the lowness in price of the tickets and thc other accessories towards enjoyment provided by thc Committee , we shall be surprised if the accounts do not show a huge deficit . Nevertheless , thc style , goodfellowhip , and feel-at-home sensation , are well worth any deficiency which , from what wc saw , would be only too gladly met by the members of this flourishing School , which has a roll of over 200 strong .
Too much praise cannot be bestowed upon the Committee for their enter-Uinment , the best it has been our privilege to attend for a long time , and we are requested not to particularise any individual , when all were so worthy of praise . The following comprises the list of ofiicers : Bros . G . Chapman , 1805 ,
Chairman ; Isaac Cohen , 188 , Hon . Sec . ; W . C . Tebbitt , P . M . 2045 , S . Hussey , P . M , 1637 , J . Edge , 1608 , and H . Gulliford , 1563 ; W . B . Neville , P . M . 1767 , and J . Moss , 1 7 67 , Committee .
The musical arrangements were entrusted to Bro . Winterbon's bind ( late Examiner at the Royal College of Music ) , P . P . G . Org , Kent , and to the strain of iheir enticing music , one was conducted through a large variety of over 20 dances , and thc way some of the M . Cs . set thc example to the younger brethren how to get along on the " light fantastic toe " was a sight not soon forgotten . The programme was a very neatly got up production , and entails great credit on its designer .
We noticed the following brethren and visitors present : Bros . Payne , P . M ., P . Z ; Hendy , Capps , Battersby , Soames , Ginger , Herring , Battrum , Haylor , Dr . Crone , Adams , Dell , Harrington , P . M . ; Beardon , Jennis , Clayton , T nomas , and others .
